Abstract
Background During the COVID-19 pandemic a need to process large volumes of publications emerged. As the pandemic is winding down, the clinicians encountered a novel syndrome - Post-acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) - that affects over 10 % of those who contract SARS-CoV-2 and presents a significant challenge in the medical field. The continuous influx of publications underscores a need for efficient tools for navigating the literature. Objectives We aimed to develop an application which will allow monitoring and categorizing COVID-19-related literature through building publication networks and medical subject headings (MeSH) maps to identify key publications and networks. Methods We introduce CORACLE (COVID-19 liteRAture CompiLEr), an innovative web application designed to analyse COVID-19-related scientific articles and to identify research trends. CORACLE features three primary interfaces: The "Search" interface, which displays research trends and citation links; the "Citation Map" interface, allowing users to create tailored citation networks from PubMed Identifiers (PMIDs) to uncover common references among selected articles; and the "MeSH" interface, highlighting current MeSH trends and their associations. Results CORACLE leverages PubMed data to categorize literature on COVID-19 and PASC, aiding in the identification of relevant research publication hubs. Using lung function in PASC patients as a search example, we demonstrate how to identify and visualize the interactions between the relevant publications. Conclusion CORACLE is an effective tool for the extraction and analysis of literature. Its functionalities, including the MeSH trends and customizable citation mapping, facilitate the discovery of emerging trends in COVID-19 and PASC research.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine patients' experiences of receiving care on an ICU for COVID-19 and the subsequent rehabilitation process. METHODS An explorative and inductive design was used. Participants were recruited from two university hospitals in Sweden. Patients admitted to the ICU due to COVID-19 from March 2020 to April 2021, who enrolled in the ICU follow-up, and understood and spoke Swedish were invited to participate. In total, 20 participants completed a semi-structured interview, of whom 18 were included in the thematic analysis. RESULTS The analysis resulted in two themes: "An isolated world with silver linings" and "Recovery in the wake of the pandemic". Findings show that patients cared for on an ICU for COVID-19 during the pandemic felt safe but experienced a sense of vulnerability. After discharge, physical rehabilitation was a slow process with frustrating day-to-day fluctuations. Mentally, participants felt isolated, fatigued, and emotionally sensitive. Patients reported that love and support from family and friends were crucial for the recovery process. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the challenges of recovering from COVID-19, emphasizing the importance of continued support from health care, public services, family and friends. It provides important insights into patients' experiences and can inform future healthcare strategies and policies.

Abstract
Some reports suggest that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may affect male reproductive function. There is also concern in Japan that COVID-19 may contribute to the pre-existing decline in male fertility; however, no studies have investigated the effects of COVID-19 on male reproductive function. In this study, we aimed to analyze the semen quality of men who had recovered from COVID-19. Male patients who had recovered from COVID-19 between February 2020 and September 2021 were recruited for this study. Participants were sent a semen collection kit; they were asked to collect semen at home and deliver it to a laboratory at Osaka University. We used these samples to analyze sperm concentration, total sperm count, and semen volume. In total, 125 participants were included in this study. The median age of all patients was 46 years (interquartile range (IQR): 38-52 years). The severity of COVID-19 was mild in 80 patients; 19 were moderate I, 22 were moderate II, and four were severe. The median semen volume was 2.5 mL (IQR: 1.8-3.1), the median sperm concentration was 98.9 million/mL (IQR: 43.8-162.2), and the median total sperm count was 212.1 million (IQR: 89.7-368.2). In a previous study in Japan, the median sperm count in adult men was reported to be 201 million. Participants in our study did not have lower sperm counts than this, despite their older age. Our results suggest that the long-term effects of COVID-19 on spermatogenesis are minimal.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES In light of the late stage of COVID-19 pandemic, the occurrence of persistent symptoms after COVID-19 infection has become more frequent. To date, there are no standardized treatments. Underlying mechanisms, risk and protective factors for severe persisting symptoms should be investigated to develop effective interventions. METHODS An online questionnaire was used to assess gender, presence of prior mental disorder, severity of COVID-19 infection, and social connectedness (SCS-R) to determine their influence on symptom severity of persisting symptoms. The sample used to examine risk and protective factors consisted of 693 participants. RESULTS The analysis revealed no significant gender differences for severity of persisting symptoms. However, prior mental health condition was associated with severity of persisting symptoms. Moreover, there was a positive association between symptom severity during COVID-19 infection and Post COVID 19. Social connectedness was found to be negatively associated with Post COVID 19 symptoms. Social connectedness was shown to be negatively associated with depressive symptoms and disordered self-organization. The symptoms of energy loss and concentration had the highest centrality. CONCLUSION The results of the study indicate that severity of post-covid symptoms is associated with higher levels of psychopathological symptoms and a lower level of social connectedness. In conclusion, social connectedness may be an important factor in the development of post-COVID symptoms and should be considered for future interventions. The results from the network analyses provide a first step for a more granular syndrome profile.

Abstract
Fatigue is a pervasive symptom experienced by many individuals after COVID-19. Despite its widespread occurrence, fatigue remains a poorly understood and complex phenomenon. Our aim is to evaluate the subjective experience of mental fatigue after COVID-19 and to assess its significance for daily life functioning. In this online questionnaire study (N = 220), the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), World Health Organization Quality-of-Life assessment (WHOQoL) and a subjective severity rating of the COVID-19 disease progression were used. For our statistical analyses we utilized independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA with post-hoc analyses, and a multiple regression. As expected our findings revealed the COVID group reported significantly higher levels of subjective fatigue compared to the control group. Moreover, there was a significant difference between experienced fatigue across the four severity groups. Participants who had a milder course of disease also experienced severe subjective fatigue. Subjective fatigue explained 40% variance in quality-of-life. In conclusion, severe subjective fatigue appears to be associated with increased self-reported COVID-19 symptom severity and lower quality-of-life but is already observable in milder cases. This underscores, firstly, the importance of considering also less severe cases and, secondly, the need to develop rehabilitation and psychological interventions for fatigue.

Abstract
Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are numerous and aspects of this phenomenon are not well known. The main objective of this manuscript is a systematic review of the acute and chronic cardiovascular complications secondary to COVID-19. Methods A systematic review of the literature through Medline via PubMed was conducted (2020-2024). Results There is a plethora of effects of COVID-19 on the heart in the acute setting. Here we discuss pathophysiology, myocardial infarctions, heart failure, Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, myocardial injury, myocarditis and arrhythmias that are caused by COVID-19. Additionally, these cardiovascular injuries can linger and may be an underlying cause of some Long COVID symptoms. Conclusions Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are numerous and life-threatening. Long COVID can affect cardiovascular health. Microclotting induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection could be a therapeutic target for some aspects of Long Covid.

Abstract
Background/objective Many COVID-19 survivors, especially those who have been hospitalized, have been suffering numerous complications that limit their activities of daily living, although changes that persist 3 years after infection are still not known. We aimed to investigate the impact of long COVID on the Glittre-ADL test (TGlittre) 3 years after acute infection in men who needed hospitalization and explore whether the performance on the TGlittre is associated with impairments in lung function, muscle strength, physical function and quality of life (QoL). Methods Cross-sectional study with 42 men with long COVID who took the TGlittre. They underwent pulmonary function tests and measurements of handgrip strength and quadriceps strength (QS). Additionally, they also completed the Saint George Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM). Results The mean age was 52 ± 10.6 years, while the mean time after diagnosis of COVID-19 was 37 ± 3.5 months. The mean TGlittre time was 3.3 (3.1-4.1) min, which was 10% greater than the time expected for normal individuals to complete it. The TGlittre time was correlated significantly with the QS (rs = -0.397, p = 0.009), pulmonary diffusion (rs = - 0.364, p = 0.017), FIM (rs = -0.364, p = 0.017) and the "activity" domain score of the SGRQ (rs = 0.327, p = 0.034). Conclusion Functional capacity on exertion as measured by the TGlittre time is normal in most men with long COVID 3 years after hospitalization. However, this improvement in functional capacity does not seem to be reflected in muscle strength or QoL, requiring continued monitoring even after 3 years.

Abstract
SUMMARYSARS-CoV-2 can not only cause respiratory symptoms but also lead to neurological complications. Research has shown that more than 30% of SARS-CoV-2 patients present neurologic symptoms during COVID-19 (A. Pezzini and A. Padovani, Nat Rev Neurol 16:636-644, 2020, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41582-020-0398-3). Increasing evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 can invade both the central nervous system (CNS) (M.S. Xydakis, M.W. Albers, E.H. Holbrook, et al. Lancet Neurol 20: 753-761, 2021 https://doi.org/10.1016/S1474-4422(21)00182-4 ) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS) (M.N. Soares, M. Eggelbusch, E. Naddaf, et al. J Cachexia Sarcopenia Muscle 13:11-22, 2022, https://doi.org/10.1002/jcsm.12896), resulting in a variety of neurological disorders. This review summarized the CNS complications caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection, including encephalopathy, neurodegenerative diseases, and delirium. Additionally, some PNS disorders such as skeletal muscle damage and inflammation, anosmia, smell or taste impairment, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, ICU-acquired weakness, and post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 were described. Furthermore, the mechanisms underlying SARS-CoV-2-induced neurological disorders were also discussed, including entering the brain through retrograde neuronal or hematogenous routes, disrupting the normal function of the CNS through cytokine storms, inducing cerebral ischemia or hypoxia, thus leading to neurological complications. Moreover, an overview of long-COVID-19 symptoms is provided, along with some recommendations for care and therapeutic approaches of COVID-19 patients experiencing neurological complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The long-term symptomatology of COVID-19 has yet to be comprehensively described. The aim of the study was to describe persistent COVID-19 symptoms in a cohort of hospitalized and home-isolated patients. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted on long COVID patients. Long COVID symptoms were identified, and patients were divided into hospitalized (in-patients) and home-isolated (out-patients) as well as according to the number of symptoms. Patients were examined by a multydisciplinary medical team. Blood tests, high resolution chest computed tomography (CT), physical and infectious examination were performed. Finally, in-patients were evaluated at two time-points: on hospital admission (T0) and after three months from discharge (Tpost). RESULTS Three hundred and sixty-four COVID-19 patients were enrolled. 82% of patients reported at least one or more symptoms. The most reported symptom was fatigue. Chest CT showed alteration in 76% of patients and pulmonary function alterations were observed in 44.7% of patients. A higher risk of presenting at least one symptom was seen in patients treated with corticosteroid and a higher risk of presenting chest CT residual lesion was observed in hospitalized patients and in patients that received hydroxychloroquine treatment. Moreover, a higher risk of altered pulmonary function was observed in older patients. CONCLUSION Long-term sequelae are present in a remarkable number of long COVID patients and pose a new challenge to the healthcare system to identify long-lasting effects and improve patients' wellbeing. Multi-disciplinary teams are crucial to develop preventive measures, and clinical management strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are at risk for a higher incidence and severity of COVID-19, as well as its adverse outcomes, including post-Covid syndrome. AIM to assess the incidence of cardiorenal complications in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes (T1DM/T2DM) who have had COVID-19, and to analyze the structure and severity of disorders according to examination data at the Diamobil mobile medical diagnostic and treatment center. MATERIALS AND METHODS a cohort of T1DM and T2DM patients examined in Diamobil (n=318), with a confirmed anamnesis of COVID-19 (n=236). The time interval between COVID-19 and the visit to Diamobil was 8.7/8.2 months for T1DM/T2DM. The parameters of the last visit before COVID-19 recorded in the Federal Register of Diabetes (FRD) were used as initial data. RESULTS Clinical characteristics of patients with T1DM/T2DM: age - 49.2/64.5 years, duration of DM - 22/11 years, proportion of women - 64/73%, respectively. After analysis the data from visits before and after COVID-19 there weren't statistically significant differences in HbA1c levels for both types of DM (before 9.0/8.3%; after 8.4/8.2%, respectively), there was the intensification of glucose lowering therapy (the proportion of patients with T2DM on 2 and 3 component therapy increased by 4.3% and 1.6%, the proportion of patients on insulin therapy by 16%). After COVID-19, there was a statistically significant decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in T1DM from 88.1 to 62 ml/min/1.73 m2; with T2DM from 74.7 to 54.1 ml/min/1.73 m2. When assessing acute diabetic complications, there was an increase in the frequency of coma in T1DM by 1.5 times, severe hypoglycemia in T1DM by 3 times, and in T2DM by 1.7 times. Analysis of the frequency of cardiorenal complications before and after COVID-19 showed a total increase of 8.5% in T1DM, by 13.2% in T2DM, of which myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease, and CHF increased in T1DM in the range from 1.5 to 5 times, with T2DM by 1.3 times, the frequency of CKD with T1DM by 1.5 times, with T2DM by 5.6 times. CONCLUSION There was a decline of kidney filtration function (decrease in GFR) and an increase in the frequency of cardiovascular complications in both types of diabetes in post-Covid period while patients achieved a stable HbA1c levels by intensifying therapy during the COVID-19 infection. This fact reflects combined damage to the kidney and cardiovascular system as a part of the post-Covid syndrome and determines a key set of measures for the development of preventive strategies.

Abstract
A few observational neuroimaging investigations have reported subcortical structural changes in the individuals who recovered from the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), but the causal relationships between COVID-19 and longitudinal changes of subcortical structures remain unclear. We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to estimate putative causal relationships between three COVID-19 phenotypes (susceptibility, hospitalization, and severity) and longitudinal volumetric changes of seven subcortical structures derived from MRI. Our findings demonstrated that genetic liability to SARS-CoV-2 infection had a great long-term impact on the volumetric reduction of subcortical structures, especially caudate. Our investigation may contribute in part to the understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying COVID-19-related neurological and neuropsychiatric sequelae.

Abstract
There is a growing body of evidence for the interrelation between health status and religious beliefs. Our aim was to evaluate the level of religiosity in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and to assess the link between religiosity and measurable health outcomes. This was an observational, single-center study which included patients with moderate-to-severe forms of COVID-19. A total of 112 patients were enrolled in the study, of whom 77 were highly religious (CRS-15 score ≥ 4) and 35 non-highly religious (CRS-15 score < 4). There was no difference in demographics or prevalence of comorbidities between the two groups. Furthermore, we found no difference between groups in radiological extension of lung lesions, length of hospital stays, or ICU need; however, in-hospital mortality rate was significantly lower in highly religious group (1% vs. 14%, p = 0.005). Serum ferritin level at admission was significantly lower (p = 0.03) and prevalence of post-COVID-19 pulmonary sequelae significantly higher in highly religious group (p = 0.02).

Abstract
Introduction/Objectives: Several studies have documented the development and persistence of symptoms related to COVID-19 and its secondary complications up to 12 months after the infection. We aimed to identify the medical complications following COVID-19 infection in the Indigenous Zapotec population of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region in Oaxaca, Mexico. Methods: This is a cross-sectional analytical study that included 90 Indigenous Zapotec participants (30 males and 60 females) from the Tehuantepec region, Oaxaca, Mexico, who had an infectious process due to SARS-CoV-2. Sociodemographic and clinical data were identified through questionnaires. Results: Among the 201 participants, 90 individuals (66.7% women, 33.3% men) had contracted COVID-19. Out of these, 61 individuals reported persistent symptoms post-infection, with a mean symptom duration of 13.87 months. The results show significant variations in symptom duration based on age, marital status, educational attainment, vaccination status, and blood group. The most commonly reported symptoms included a dry cough, fever, myalgia, fatigue, headache, and depressive symptoms. Conclusions: This study highlights the post-COVID-19 symptoms and their prevalence within a specific sample of the Indigenous Zapotec population in Oaxaca, along with the sociodemographic and clinical factors influencing the duration of these symptoms. It underscores the necessity of personalized recovery strategies and highlights the critical role of vaccination in mitigating the long-term impacts of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
Background In the postacute phase of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), survivors may have persistent symptoms, lung function abnormalities, and sequelae lesions on thoracic computed tomography (CT). This new entity has been defined as post-COVID interstitial lung disease (ILD) or residual disease. Aims To evaluate the characteristics, risk factors and clinical significance of post-COVID ILD. Study Design Multicenter cross-sectional analysis of data from a randomized clinical study. Methods In this study, patients with persistent respiratory symptoms 3 months after recovery from COVID-19 were evaluated by two pulmonologists and a radiologist. post-COVID ILD was defined as the presence of respiratory symptoms, hypoxemia, restrictive defect on lung function tests, and interstitial changes on follow-up high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT). Results At the three-month follow-up, 375 patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome were evaluated, and 262 patients were found to have post-COVID ILD. The most prevalent complaints were dyspnea (n = 238, 90.8%), exercise intolerance (n = 166, 63.4%), fatigue (n = 142, 54.2%), and cough (n = 136, 52%). The mean Medical Research Council dyspnea score was 2.1 ± 0.9, oxygen saturation was 92.2 ± 5.9%, and 6-minute walking distance was 360 ± 140 meters. The mean diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide was 58 ± 21, and the forced vital capacity was 70% ± 19%. Ground glass opacities and fibrotic bands were the most common findings on thoracic HRCT. Fibrosis-like lesions such as interlobular septal thickening and traction bronchiectasis were observed in 38.3% and 27.9% of the patients, respectively. No honeycomb cysts were observed. Active smoking [odds ratio (OR), 1.96; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.44-2.67), intensive care unit admission during the acute phase (OR, 1.46; 95% CI, 1.1-1.95), need for high-flow nasal oxygen (OR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.42-1.9) or non-invasive ventilation (OR, 1.31; 95% CI, 0.8-2.07), and elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase levels (OR, 1.23; 95% CI 1.18-1.28) were associated with the development of post-COVID ILD. At the 6-month follow-up, the respiratory symptoms and pulmonary functions had improved spontaneously without any specific treatment in 35 patients (13.4%). The radiological interstitial lesions had spontaneously regressed in 54 patients (20.6%). Conclusion The co-existence of respiratory symptoms, radiological parenchymal lesions, and pulmonary functional abnormalities which suggest a restrictive ventilatory defect should be defined as post-COVID-19 ILD. However, the term “fibrosis” should be used carefully. Active smoking, severe COVID-19, and elevated lactate dehydrogenase level are the main risk factors of this condition. These post-COVID functional and radiological changes could disappear over time in 20% of the patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post-infectious disorders of gut-brain interaction (PI-DGBI) have significant impact on children and adolescents. The effect of COVID-19 on PI-DGBI-associated symptoms in this population, however, is unknown. METHODS We performed electronic medical record searches to identify patients 8-17 years old with a SARS-CoV2 PCR test at Lurie Children's Hospital between November 2020 and March 2021 (cohort 1) and April-October 2021 (cohort 2). Questionnaires were administered to assess symptoms prior to and 3 months following the test. This included the Pediatric Eosinophilic Esophagitis Symptom Score (PEESS), questionnaire of pediatric gastrointestinal symptoms-Rome IV, Nausea Profile (NP), dyspepsia symptom survey (DSS), nausea severity profile (NSP), and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). We grouped patients based on the presence of symptoms prior to COVID-19 test or the test result. RESULTS One hundred and ninety-six parent(s) or guardian(s) in cohort 1 and 274 in cohort 2 completed surveys and self-reported their child's COVID-19 result. Cohort 1 had increased PEESS and DSS scores, lower PedsQL scores, and increased frequency of abdominal pain disorders among patients with symptoms prior to COVID-19 testing. Both cohorts had increased NP and NSP scores among patients with symptoms prior to COVID-19 testing that was highest among patients with a positive COVID-19 test. Abdominal pain and diarrhea prior to COVID-19 testing predicted higher NP scores. CONCLUSIONS Among symptomatic COVID-19 tested children, we found increased severity of nausea-associated somatic, emotional, and gastrointestinal symptoms in the 3 months following the test that was most increased among patients with a positive COVID-19 test.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the infection status, exercise habits, anxiety levels, and sleep quality in Chinese residents who recovered from infection during the period of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period. It also aimed to investigate the influencing factors of recovery status and aid in improving intervention measures for COVID-19 recovery. This study is a sub-study nested within a cross-sectional investigation of infection and physical and mental health among partially recovered residents in all 34 provincial areas of China during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 1 013 participants (374 males and 639 females) completed the study. Cardiopulmonary endurance was significantly lower after infection than before infection (p < 0.001). Women (3.92 ± 4.97) exhibited higher levels of anxiety than men (3.33 ± 4.54, p = 0.015). The sleep score was significantly higher after infection (8.27 ± 7.05) than before infection (4.17 ± 4.97, p < 0.001). The active and regular exercise groups exhibited significantly shorter durations of fever than the sedentary and irregular groups (p = 0.033; p = 0.021). Additionally, the active group demonstrated significantly fewer recovery days ([7.32 ± 3.24] days) than the sedentary group ([7.66 ± 3.06] days, p = 0.035). We found a correlation between age and the recovery time of symptoms after COVID-19. We noted that a greater number of symptoms corresponded to poorer cardiopulmonary fitness and sleep quality. Individuals who engage in sedentary lifestyles and irregular exercise regimens generally require prolonged recovery periods. Therefore, incorporating moderate exercise, psychological support, sleep hygiene and other health interventions into post-COVID-19 recovery measures is imperative.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COVID patients continue to experience unremitting symptoms that extend far beyond the initial illness. While there is rapid accumulation of data on acute COVID treatment in hospitalized patients, little is known regarding post-COVID management. OBJECTIVES To describe our center's experience treating post-COVID sub-syndromes encountered in Post-COVID Lung Clinic. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed data on 98 post-COVID patients evaluated in our clinic between 07/01/2020-12/31/2022. We encountered three distinct post-COVID subtypes: 1) respiratory complaints associated with increased O2 requirements and abnormal CT findings (post-COVID interstitial lung disease [ILD]), 2) respiratory complaints associated with tachycardia (post-COVID dyspnea-tachycardia syndrome [DTS]). Post-COVID ILD patients (n = 28) received steroids in combination with cell cycle inhibitor (mycophenolate mofetil-MMF). Post-COVID DTS patients (n = 16) were treated with metoprolol. 3) A third, undifferentiated group presented with mild respiratory complaints and normal spirometry (n = 17) and was followed in clinic without initiation of a specific treatment. RESULTS In treated post-COVID ILD patients, mean oxygen requirements at rest (1.96 ± 1.79 L/NC) decreased to 0.89 ± 1.29 L/NC at 6 months follow-up, p = 0.005. In patients with post-COVID DTS, mean heart rate at rest decreased (98 ± 15 bpm to 79 ± 11 bpm) at 6 months follow-up, p = 0.023. 60 % of patients reported an improvement in exertional dyspnea. CONCLUSIONS Our descriptive study presents a single center outpatient COVID-19 clinic experience. We encountered 3 post-COVID sub-syndromes and describe their treatments: post-COVID interstitial lung disease [ILD] treated with a novel regimen of MMF and steroids, post COVID dyspnea-tachycardia syndrome [DTS] treated with metoprolol, and a third subgroup with mild undifferentiated symptoms without specific treatment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome may present cognitive and emotional symptomatology. This study aims to analyse the results of an outpatient neuropsychological intervention programme for post-COVID-19 syndrome. METHOD In June 2020 Institut Guttmann started an outpatient post-COVID-19 neurorehabilitation programme, including respiratory therapy, physiotherapy, and neuropsychological rehabilitation. Before and after the programme, the cognitive-emotional state of all participants is assessed. Six months after treatment, a follow-up assessment is administered (which includes a collection of information on various aspects of daily life). RESULTS The sample analysed consisted of 123 patients (mean age: 51 years, SD: 12.41). Seventy-four per cent (n = 91) had cognitive impairment and underwent cognitive treatment (experimental group); the remaining 26% (n = 32) constituted the control group. After the intervention, the experimental group improved in working memory, verbal memory (learning, recall and recognition), verbal fluency and anxious-depressive symptomatology. The control group showed changes in immediate memory, verbal memory (learning and recognition) and depressive symptomatology, although the effect size in the latter two was smaller than in the experimental group. Six months after treatment, 44.9% of the patients were unable to perform their pre-COVID-19 work activity, and 81.2% reported difficulties in their activities of daily living. CONCLUSIONS Neuropsychological rehabilitation is an effective tool to treat the cognitive-emotional deficits present in post-COVID-19 syndrome. However, months after the end of treatment, not all patients recover their pre-COVID-19 functional level.

Abstract
PURPOSE To estimate the prevalence and severity of impairments in functional status, fatigue, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among critical COVID-19 survivors one-year after hospital discharge. METHODS A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA statement and registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021258356), with searches in eight databases. Observational studies were selected. The prevalence meta-analysis of abnormalities was performed using random-effects models. Risk of bias was evaluated using the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute tool. RESULTS Twenty studies were included, with data collected between 12 and 13.5 months after hospital discharge and a total of 1828 participants. Of these, 71% were men, and 77.7% were intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Impairments and sequelae were identified in varying prevalence and degrees, with greater impact on functional capacity and physical components of fatigue and HRQoL. The prevalence of abnormalities of 32.3% [95% CI 23.9; 41.9] found in the meta-analysis is substantially high. Most studies were classified as having fair and poor quality. CONCLUSION Critical COVID-19 survivors experience impairments in functional status, fatigue, and HRQoL to varying degrees one-year after hospital discharge, particularly among patients who stayed in the ICU and on MV for a prolonged period.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Autoantibodies and autoimmune diseases after SARS-CoV-2 infection are widely reported. Given evolving variants, milder infections, and increasing population vaccination, we hypothesized that SARS-CoV-2 infection earlier in the pandemic would be associated with more autoimmune connective tissue disease (CTD) symptoms and immunologic abnormalities. METHODS Patients ≥18 years old with COVID-19 3/1/2020-8/15/2022 completed the CTD Screening Questionnaire and were tested for 27 autoimmune serologies, SARS-CoV-2 serologies, cell-bound complement activation products (CB-CAPs), and T and B lymphocyte immunophenotypes by flow cytometry. We assessed relationships between symptoms, serologies, and immunophenotypes in earlier (3/1/2020-1/31/2021) vs. later (2/1/2021-8/15/2022) periods, with different predominating SARS-CoV-2 viruses. RESULTS 57 subjects had earlier and 23 had later pandemic COVID-19. 35 % of earlier vs. 17 % of later pandemic patients had CTD symptoms (p 0.18). More patients were antinuclear antibody (ANA) positive (44 % vs. 13 %, p 0.01) and had lupus anticoagulant (11 % vs. 4 %, p 0.67). After adjustment for age, race, and sex, earlier (vs. later) COVID-19 was associated with increased ANA positivity (OR 4.60, 95%CI 1.17, 18.15). No subjects had positive CB-CAPs. T and B cell immunophenotypes and SARS-CoV-2 serologies did not differ by group. In heatmap analyses, higher autoantibody variety was seen among those with infection in the early pandemic. CONCLUSION In this sample, having COVID-19 infection in the earlier (pre-2/1/2021) vs. later pandemic was associated with more CTD symptoms, ANA positivity, and autoantibody reactivities. Earlier SARS-CoV-2 variants circulating in a less vaccinated population with less natural immunity may have been more immunogenic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES SARS-CoV-2 infection could cause persistent lung injury or indicate potential genetic susceptibilities. Although infection-elicited hybrid immunity could protect against severe COVID-19, it remains unknown whether recent infection could reduce pneumonia risk during reinfection due to insufficient viral and chest computed tomography (CT) screening. METHODS A total of 15,598 patients, 96% fully vaccinated and 52% boosted, from Xiangyang, China, who had symptomatic COVID-19 and chest CT scans during the first Omicron BF.7 wave in December 2022 to January 2023, were followed through the second Omicron XBB.1.5 wave between May and August 2023. A total of 17,968 second-wave patients with COVID-19 with chest CT scans but without previous symptomatic COVID-19 were enrolled as first-time infection controls. RESULTS A total of 19.6% (3,061 of 15,598) first-wave patients were diagnosed with pneumonia. Among second-wave reinfected patients, only 0.2% (four of 2202) developed pneumonia, which was lower than the 1.7% (311 of 17,968) pneumonia prevalence among the second-wave first-time patients, with an adjusted relative risk of 0.11 (95% confidence interval: 0.04-0.29). A total of 1.3% (40 of 3,039) first-wave pneumonia survivors showed residual abnormal patterns in follow-up CT scans within 8 months after pneumonia diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS In a highly vaccinated population, previous symptomatic Omicron infection within 8 months reduced pneumonia risk during reinfection. Uninfected individuals might need up-to-date vaccination to reduce pneumonia risk.

Abstract
Cardiac injury and sustained cardiovascular abnormalities in long-COVID syndrome, i.e. post-acute sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have emerged as a debilitating health burden that has posed challenges for management of pre-existing cardiovascular conditions and other associated chronic comorbidities in the most vulnerable group of patients recovered from acute COVID-19. A clear and evidence-based guideline for treating cardiac issues of long-COVID syndrome is still lacking. In this review, we have summarized the common cardiac symptoms reported in the months after acute COVID-19 illness and further evaluated the possible pathogenic factors underlying the pathophysiology process of long-COVID. The mechanistic understanding of how Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) damages the heart and vasculatures is critical in developing targeted therapy and preventive measures for limiting the viral attacks. Despite the currently available therapeutic interventions, a considerable portion of patients recovered from severe COVID-19 have reported a reduced functional reserve due to deconditioning. Therefore, a rigorous and comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program with individualized exercise protocols would be instrumental for the patients with long-COVID to regain the physical fitness levels comparable to their pre-illness baseline.

Abstract
PURPOSE Studies integrating an exhaustive longitudinal long-term follow-up of postintensive care syndrome (PICS) in critically ill COVID-19 survivors are scarce. We aimed to 1) describe PICS-related sequelae over a 12-month period after intensive care unit (ICU) discharge, 2) identify relevant demographic and clinical factors related to PICS, and 3) explore how PICS-related sequelae may influence health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in critically ill COVID-19 survivors. METHODS We conducted a prospective cohort study in adult critically ill survivors of SARS-CoV-2 infection that did or did not need invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain (March 2020 to January 2021). We performed a telemedicine follow-up of PICS-related sequelae (physical/functional, cognitive, and mental health) and HRQoL with five data collection points. We retrospectively collected demographic and clinical data. We used multivariable mixed-effects models for data analysis. RESULTS We included 142 study participants in the final analysis, with a median [interquartile range] age of 61 [53-68] yr; 35% were female and 59% needed IMV. Fatigue/dyspnea, pain, impaired muscle function, psychiatric symptomatology and reduced physical HRQoL were prominent sequelae early after ICU discharge. Over the 12-month follow-up, functionality and fatigue/dyspnea improved progressively, while pain remained stable. We observed slight fluctuations in anxiety symptoms and perception of cognitive deficit, whereas posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depressive symptoms improved, with a mild rebound at the end of the follow-up. Female sex, younger age, and the need for IMV were risk factors for PICS, while having higher cognitive reserve was a potential protective factor. Physical HRQoL scores showed a general improvement over time, whereas mental HRQoL remained stable. Shorter ICU stay, better functionality, and lower scores for fatigue/dyspnea and pain were associated with better physical HRQoL, while lower scores for anxiety, depression, and PTSD were associated with better mental HRQoL. CONCLUSIONS Postintensive care syndrome was common in COVID-19 critical illness survivors and persisted in a significant proportion of patients one year after ICU discharge, impacting HRQoL. The presence of risk factors for PICS may identify patients who are more likely to develop the condition and who would benefit from more specific and closer follow-up after ICU admission. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Long-COVID is a multisystem disease characterized by a varied presentation of symptoms. According to most recent research, the most common symptom of long-COVID is fatigue, which up to this date lacks a universally accepted definition. This study aimed to investigate neurocognitive and physical manifestations of neurological long-COVID, particularly fatigue and its relation with autonomic disfunction, cognitive impairment (known as, brain fog), and depressive symptoms. Furthermore, the study provided insights into predictors of fatigue in long-COVID. METHODS The included patients (n=141) were referred to the neuro-long-COVID ambulatory service of Trieste from 30 September 2021-02 March 2022. Patients were given self-reporting questionnaires to screen for fatigue, autonomic dysfunction, cognitive impairment and depressive symptoms. The questionnaires adopted for these conditions to be assessed were Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), COMPASS-31, Prospective-Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Participants were divided into two groups, fatigued and non-fatigued patients, based on FSS scoring (scores > 4.67 indicate fatigued patients). The questionnaire scores of the two groups were then compared. RESULTS Fatigued patients had significantly higher scores in COMPASS (p<0.001, Cohen's d=1.077), BDI (p<0.001, Cohen's d=0.862), and PRMQ ( p<0.001, Cohen's d=1.159). Furthermore, the multivariate regression analysis showed that predictors of fatigue in long-COVID were symptomatological burden in acute infection (OR=1.38, 95 % CI 1.020-1.887, p=0.037) and in long-COVID (OR=1.78, 95 % CI 1.133-2.2824, p=0.013), COMPASS-31>16 (OR=3.44, 95 % CI 1240-9.560, p=0.018) and BDI>15 (OR=5.1, 95 % CI 1.715-15.164, p=0.003). CONCLUSION This study showed associations between fatigue, dysautonomia and depression, as well as with symptom burden in acute and long-COVID.

Abstract
Background Experts estimate that in up to 10% of the infected, SARS-CoV-2 would cause persistent symptoms, activity limitations and reduced quality of life. Referred to as long COVID, these conditions might, in the future, specifically impact German-speaking countries due to their higher rates of unvaccinated people compared to other Western countries. Accurate measurement of symptom burden and its consequences is needed to manage conditions such as long COVID, and several tools have been developed to do so. However, no patient-reported instrument existed in the German language at the time of writing. Objective This study, therefore, aimed to develop a German version of the COVID-19 Yorkshire Rehabilitation Scale (C19-YRS). Methods We conducted a translation and qualitative evaluation, including cultural adaptation, of the C19-YRS and assessed its face validity. After creating a preliminary version, 26 individuals (14 women [53%]) participated in cognitive interviews (January 2022 to March 2022). Using cognitive debriefing interviews, we ensured the content's comprehensibility. The matrix-framework method guided the qualitative data analysis. Results Compared to the original English version, adaptations were necessary, resulting in changes to the introductory text, while the items for recording persistent symptoms were hardly changed. Conclusion The German version of the C19-YRS is expected to support standardized long COVID care.

BACKGROUND The complex effects of Long-COVID, a syndrome marked by enduring symptoms after COVID-19 infection, with an emphasis on patients' differing degrees of fibro fatigue (FF). Electrolyte disturbances may affect the severity of FF and may be used as a predictive tool for severe FF in Long-COVID patients. OBJECTIVE The aim is to use the electrolyte levels for prediction of the Long-COVID patients with high FF levels. METHODS The electrolyte levels, calcium, and magnesium, as well as albumin and C-reactive protein levels were measured in 120 Long-COVID patients and 60 controls. FF scale was used for scoring the fatigue severity in all subjects. Patients were divided into high-FF (FF score>25) and moderate-FF group (FF score<25). RESULTS FF is the major effector on the serum biomarker levels. High-FF group had older people, longer disease durations, lower SpO2, higher CRP, and higher peak temperatures than the control group. High-FF group has a significant decrease in serum total and ionized calcium compared with the controls and low-FF group. After controlling the cofounders, the major factor controlling the levels of the measured biomarkers is the FF value (Partial η2 = 0.468). The ROC-AUC analysis showed that the peak body temperature, Low-SpO2, high-CRP, and low electrolytes can predict the high-FF in a patient with Long-COVID with a moderate sensitivity and specificities (61.6-70%). CONCLUSION Long-COVID patients have an elevation in FF score. The decline in electrolytes can predict the severity of FF with moderate sensitivities and specificities.

Abstract
Objectives Musculoskeletal pain after COVID-19 infection remains a concerning long-term complication of COVID-19. Here, our study aimed to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain associated with COVID-19 (MSPC) and healthcare-seeking behaviors, as well as the associating factors. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted using convenience sampling and distributed to participants anonymously through the online platform Credamo. Demographic and characteristic data of the participants were collected and analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was employed to investigate potential factors associated with MSPC and healthcare-seeking tendencies. Results A total of 1,510 participants responded to the survey, with 42.6% (643 individuals) exhibiting MSPC. Higher education level and a greater number of concomitant symptoms were significant risk factors for MSPC, while longer exercise duration and higher PSS-10 scores were protective factors. Additionally, higher income level, frequency and severity of pain, and greater PSS-10 scores increased healthcare-seeking intention. Conclusion A significant proportion of individuals experience MSPC. Education level and concomitant symptoms were risk factors for MSPC, while exercise duration and PSS-10 score were potential protective factors. Income level, frequency and severity of pain, and PSS-10 score are significantly related to the willingness to seek medical treatment for MSPC.

Abstract
Background Under the current pandemic of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), The relationship between fatigue and COVID-19 has been found. Infection with COVID-19 is associated with fatigue long after the acute phase of COVID-19. Understanding the association of thyroid hormones levels with post-COVID condition, such as fatigue, is necessary to improve quality of life. Methods This population-based cohort study was conducted in Dalian, China, from December 2022, to March 2023, using a Yidu Core platform in the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, that integrates medical records, laboratory tests, and all diagnosis and treatment information based on patients in hospital. Eligible individuals were 40 patients with COVID-19, Divided them into fatigue group and non-fatigue group following up by telephone using the FS-14 scale after 6 months. The primary outcomes were the diagnoses of fatigue. The association between thyroid hormones levels and post-COVID condition, such as fatigue, was assessed using logistic regression analysis. Results Compared with the non-fatigue group, the FT3 level in fatigue group was lower (p<0.05). FT3 was negatively correlated with fatigue after 6 months (OR 0.257, p<0.05). After adjusting for confounding factors such as age and gender, low FT3 was a risk factor for fatigue in patients with COVID-19, (OR 0.225, p<0.05). And the FT3 is less than 2.47 mol/L, it is the best critical value for predicting long-term fatigue, with a sensitivity of 92.3% and a specificity of 48.1%. Conclusions Most people still have fatigue 6 months after COVID-19 infection. FT3 serves as the important index to predict fatigue in patients with COVID-19. it should be closely monitored during infection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate and characterize the cognitive changes in COVID-19 participants at 6-month follow-up, and to explore a possible association with clinical symptoms, emotional disturbance and disease severity. METHODS This single-center longitudinal cohort study included participants aged 20 and 60 years old to exclude cognitive impairment age-associated with confirmed COVID-19 infection. The initial evaluation occurred 10 to 30 days after hospital or ambulatory discharge, with a subsequent follow-up at 6 months. Patients who had a history of cognitive impairment, neurological conditions, or serious psychiatric disorders were not included. Information on demographics and laboratory results was gathered from medical records. Cognitive outcomes were assessed with a neuropsychological battery including attention, verbal and visual memory, language and executive function tests. RESULTS A total of 200 participants were included in the study, and 108 completed the follow-up visit. At the 6-month follow-up, comparing the means from baseline with those of the follow-up evaluation, significant overall improvement was observed in verbal and visual memory subtests (p = 0.001), processing speed (p = 0.001), executive function (p = 0.028; p = 0.016) and naming (p = 0.001), independently of disease severity and cognitive complaints. Anxiety and depression were significantly higher in groups with Subjective Cognitive Complaints (SCC) compared to those without (p < 0.01 for both). CONCLUSIONS Persistent symptoms are common regardless of disease severity and are often linked to cognitive complaints. Six months after COVID-19, the most frequently reported symptoms included headache, dyspnea, fatigue, cognitive complaints, anxiety, and depression. No cognitive impairment was found to be associated with the severity of COVID-19. Overall, neuropsychological and psychopathological improvement was observed at 6 months regardless of disease severity and cognitive complaints.

Abstract
Objective The mental health issues of individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are currently widespread. Traditional Chinese exercise (Daoyin) plays an important role in relieving patients' psychological problems. This study aims to assess the efficacy of Daoyin in mitigating mental health issues among individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. Methods PubMed, the Cochrane library, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP database, and SinoMed were searched from their inception to October 2023. Two researchers independently selected the eligible studies. The analysis and presentation of the findings were conducted using Review Manager 5.2 software. The data were analyzed using mean difference (MD), inverse variance, and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results A total of 12 studies (N = 1291) were included in this study. The results showed that Daoyin can significantly reduce the scores of the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS: MD = -13.03, 95% CI -19.56 to -6.49, P<.49,yca Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS: MD = -11.13, 95% CI -14.56 to -7.71, P<.71,sion Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI: MD = -2.00, 95% CI -5.43 to 1.43, P = 0.25), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA: MD = -2.42, 95% CI -5.25 to 0.41, P = 0.09), and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD: MD = -11.17, 95% CI -25.5 to 3.15, P = 0.13). Conclusion In COVID-19 patients, Daoyin can alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression, as well as improve sleep quality. The use of Daoyin has no adverse effects and side effects and can reduce the cost of medication. Therefore, Daoyin can be widely promoted. Abstract
Background: Depression is one of the most severe sequelae of COVID-19, with major depressive disorder often characterized by disruption in white matter (WM) connectivity stemming from changes in brain myelination. This study aimed to quantitatively assess brain myelination in clinically diagnosed post-COVID depression (PCD) using the recently proposed MRI method, macromolecular proton fraction (MPF) mapping. Methods: The study involved 63 recovered COVID-19 patients (52 mild, 11 moderate, and 2 severe) at 13.5 ± 10.0 months post-recovery, with matched controls without prior COVID-19 history (n = 19). A post-COVID depression group (PCD, n = 25) was identified based on psychiatric diagnosis, while a comparison group (noPCD, n = 38) included participants with neurological COVID-19 complications, excluding clinical depression. Results: Fast MPF mapping revealed extensive demyelination in PCD patients, particularly in juxtacortical WM (predominantly occipital lobe and medial surface), WM tracts (inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF), posterior thalamic radiation, external capsule, sagittal stratum, tapetum), and grey matter (GM) structures (hippocampus, putamen, globus pallidus, and amygdala). The noPCD group also displayed notable demyelination, but with less magnitude and propagation. Multiple regression analysis highlighted IFOF demyelination as the primary predictor of Hamilton scores, PCD presence, and severity. The number of post-COVID symptoms was a significant predictor of PCD presence, while the number of acute symptoms was a significant predictor of PCD severity. Conclusions: This study, for the first time, reveals extensive demyelination in numerous WM and GM structures in PCD, outlining IFOF demyelination as a key biomarker.

Abstract
Objectives SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with a decline in functional outcomes; many patients experience persistent symptoms, while the underlying pathophysiology remains unclear. This study investigated white matter (WM) integrity on brain MRI in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and its associations with clinical outcomes, including long COVID. Materials and methods We included hospitalized COVID-19 patients and controls from CORONavirus and Ischemic Stroke (CORONIS), an observational cohort study, who underwent MRI-DWI imaging at baseline shortly after discharge (<3 months after positive PCR) and 3 months after baseline scanning. We assessed WM integrity using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) and performed comparisons between groups and within patients. Clinical assessment was conducted at 3 and 12 months with functional outcomes such as modified Rankin Scale (mRS), Post-COVID-19 Functional Status scale (PCFS), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and long COVID, cognitive assessment was conducted by the Modified Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status (TICS-M), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to assess mood disorder. Associations between WM integrity and clinical outcomes were evaluated using logistic regression and linear regression. Results A total of 49 patients (mean age 59.5 years) showed higher overall peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity (PSMD) (p = 0.030) and lower neurite density index (NDI) in several WM regions compared with 25 controls at the baseline (p < 0.05; FWE-corrected) but did not remain statistically significant after adjusting for WM hyperintensities. Orientation dispersion index (ODI) increased after 3-month follow-up in several WM regions within patients (p < 0.05), which remained significant after correction for changes in WMH volume. Patients exhibited worse clinical outcomes compared with controls. Low NDI at baseline was associated with worse performance on the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status scale after 12 months (p = 0.018). Conclusion After adjusting for WMH, hospitalized COVID-19 patients no longer exhibited lower WM integrity compared with controls. WM integrity was generally not associated with clinical assessments as measured shortly after discharge, suggesting that factors other than underlying WM integrity play a role in worse clinical outcomes or long COVID.

Abstract
To explore the clinical characteristics of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 nationwide, especially the effect factors of asymptomatic infection and disappearance of clinical symptoms. A total of 66,448 COVID-19 patients in China who have been diagnosed by nucleic acid test or rapid antigen test were surveyed online (December 24, 2022 to January 16, 2023). Our cross-sectional study used descriptive analyses and binary Logistics regression model to assess the correlation between the clinical characteristics and relative factors, including age, gender, pre-existing conditions, reinfection, vaccination and treatment. A total of 64,515 valid questionnaires were collected. Among included participants, 5969 of which were asymptomatic. The symptoms were mainly upper respiratory symptoms, including dry and itchy throat (64.16%), sore throat (59.95%), hoarseness (57.90%), nasal congestion (53.39%). In binary Logistics regression model, we found that male, no pre-existing conditions, reinfection and vaccination have positive correlations with the appearance of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. In Cox proportional-hazards regression model, considering all clinical symptoms disappeared in 14 days as outcome, we found that ≤ 60 years old, male, no pre-existing conditions, vaccination and adopted treatment have positive correlations with rapid amelioration of clinical symptoms in COVID-19 patients. The clinical symptoms of the participants were mainly upper respiratory symptoms which were according with the infection of Omicron variant. Factors including age, gender, pre-existing conditions and reinfection could influence the clinical characteristics and prognosis of COVID-19 patients. Importantly, vaccination has positive significance for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. Lastly, the use of Chinese medicine maybe beneficial to COVID-19 patients, however, reasonable guidance is necessary.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fatigue is one of the most common neurological symptoms reported post coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. In order to establish effective early intervention strategies, more emphasis should be placed on the correlation between fatigue and cortical neurophysiological changes, especially in healthcare workers, who are at a heightened risk of COVID-19 infection. METHODS A prospective cohort study was conducted involving 29 COVID-19 medical workers and 24 healthy controls. The assessment included fatigue, sleep and health quality, psychological status, and physical capacity. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was employed to detect activation of brain regions. Bilateral primary motor cortex (M1) excitabilities were measured using single- and paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation. Outcomes were assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months into the disease course. RESULTS At 1-month post-COVID-19 infection, 37.9% of patients experienced severe fatigue symptoms, dropping to 10.3% at 3 months. Interestingly, the remarkable decreased activation/excitability of bilateral prefrontal lobe (PFC) and M1 were closely linked to fatigue symptoms after COVID-19. Notably, greater increase in M1 region excitability correlated with more significant fatigue improvement. Re-infected patients exhibited lower levels of brain activation and excitability compared to single-infection patients. CONCLUSIONS Both single infection and reinfection of COVID-19 lead to decreased activation and excitability of the PFC and M1. The degree of excitability improvement in the M1 region correlates with a greater recovery in fatigue. Based on these findings, targeted interventions to enhance and regulate the excitability of M1 may represent a novel strategy for COVID-19 early rehabilitation. Abstract
COVID-19 is still a major public health concern, mainly due to the persistence of symptoms or the appearance of new symptoms. To date, more than 200 symptoms of long COVID (LC) have been described. The present review describes and maps its relevant clinical characteristics, pathophysiology, epidemiology, and genetic and nongenetic risk factors. Given the currently available evidence on LC, we demonstrate that there are still gaps and controversies in the diagnosis, pathophysiology, epidemiology, and detection of prognostic and predictive factors, as well as the role of the viral strain and vaccination.

Abstract
Background Respiratory symptoms may persist for several weeks following the initial coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. The aims and objectives were to assess the clinical symptoms, pulmonary functions, and radiological changes and to assess the cardio-vascular complications in post-COVID-19 patients. Methods This observational study was conducted in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology, SCBMCH, Cuttack, from March 2021 to August 2022 on 75 post-COVID-19 patients with respiratory symptoms from 4 weeks to 2 years after treatment for COVID-19 infection. Post-COVID patients having previous respiratory diseases were excluded from the study. Results Among 75 patients, the most common age group was 18-30 years with a male-to-female ratio of 2.5:1. Based on O2 requirement, patients were divided into the mild symptomatic group and moderate to severe pneumonia group. The most common respiratory symptom was dyspnea, followed by cough with expectoration. Bilateral crepitations were found in 17% of cases. C-reactive protein (CRP) and D-dimer were increased in 38.6% and 32% of patients, respectively. 42.6% had abnormal chest X-ray, and the most common abnormal finding was reticular thickening. In spirometry, the restrictive pattern and mixed pattern were the predominant types documented in 49.3% and 13.3% of cases, respectively, which were significant in the moderate-severe group. Diffusion capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) was performed in only 19 patients (mild group 13 and moderate-severe group 6). Twelve (63.2%) patients had abnormal DLCO. P- values were significant for RV (0.0482) and RV/TLC (0.0394). High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of the thorax was abnormal in 55.7% with the most common abnormalities as inter- and intra-lobular septal thickening. The left ventricular ejection fraction was preserved in all patients, with right atrium and right ventricle enlargement in 2.6% and pulmonary hypertension in 4.0% of participants. Conclusion All post-COVID-19 patients having respiratory symptoms after recovery from acute COVID-19 may be referred by family care physicians to a dedicated post-COVID center for further evaluation, management, and early rehabilitation to decrease the morbidity in recovered patients. Persistent increased blood parameters like TLC, N/L ratio, RBS, CRP, and D-dimer seen in recovered post-COVID-19 patients. The long-term impact of CT findings on respiratory symptoms, pulmonary functions, and quality of life is unknown. Cardiovascular abnormalities in post-COVID-19 patients are infrequent.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the preliminary efficacy of asynchronous telerehabilitation in patients after acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on fatigue, physical condition, quality of life, and feasibility of this pilot study with that of a booklet format. DESIGN Randomized pilot study with 2 intervention arms: asynchronous telerehabilitation group and booklet-based rehabilitation group, with 2 follow-ups at 3 and 6 months. SETTING Hospital. PARTICIPANTS Patients discharged after COVID-19 were recruited and evaluated (N=35). INTERVENTIONS The intervention consisted of a 12-week multimodal rehabilitation program via telerehabilitation or by a booklet. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Fatigue as the main outcome and functional status, quality of life, and feasibility as secondary outcomes were evaluated. RESULTS After the intervention, there was no significant difference between groups in fatigue, but there were significant differences in favor of the asynchronous telerehabilitation group for the 6-Minute Walk Test (p=.008), the 30-Second Sit-to-Stand Test (p=.019), and physical quality of life (p=.035). These improvements were maintained throughout the 6-month follow-up. Telerehabilitation was shown to be a viable option, without incidents and with a higher adhesion (p=.028) than the booklet format. CONCLUSIONS A multimodal rehabilitation program by means of asynchronous telerehabilitation appears as a more effective option than traditional formats in improving post-acute COVID-19 sequelae.

Abstract
Long COVID represents the constellation of post-acute and long-term health effects caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection; it is a complex, multisystem disorder that can affect nearly every organ system and can be severely disabling. The cumulative global incidence of long COVID is around 400 million individuals, which is estimated to have an annual economic impact of approximately $1 trillion-equivalent to about 1% of the global economy. Several mechanistic pathways are implicated in long COVID, including viral persistence, immune dysregulation, mitochondrial dysfunction, complement dysregulation, endothelial inflammation and microbiome dysbiosis. Long COVID can have devastating impacts on individual lives and, due to its complexity and prevalence, it also has major ramifications for health systems and economies, even threatening progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Addressing the challenge of long COVID requires an ambitious and coordinated-but so far absent-global research and policy response strategy. In this interdisciplinary review, we provide a synthesis of the state of scientific evidence on long COVID, assess the impacts of long COVID on human health, health systems, the economy and global health metrics, and provide a forward-looking research and policy roadmap.

Abstract
We study the problem of mass screening of heterogeneous populations under limited testing budget. Mass screening is an essential tool that arises in various settings, e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of mass screening is to classify the entire population as positive or negative for a disease as efficiently and accurately as possible. Under limited budget, testing facilities need to allocate a portion of the budget to target sub-populations (i.e., proactive screening) while reserving the remaining budget to screen for symptomatic cases (i.e., reactive screening). This paper addresses this decision problem by taking advantage of accessible population-level risk information to identify the optimal set of sub-populations for proactive/reactive screening. The framework also incorporates two widely used testing schemes: Individual and Dorfman group testing. By leveraging the special structure of the resulting bilinear optimization problem, we identify key structural properties, which in turn enable us to develop efficient solution schemes. Furthermore, we extend the model to accommodate customized testing schemes across different sub-populations and introduce a highly efficient heuristic solution algorithm for the generalized model. We conduct a comprehensive case study on COVID-19 in the US, utilizing geographically-based data. Numerical results demonstrate a significant improvement of up to 52% in total misclassifications compared to conventional screening strategies. In addition, our case study offers valuable managerial insights regarding the allocation of proactive/reactive measures and budget across diverse geographic regions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION SARS-CoV-2 infection causes severe endothelial damage, an essential step for cardiovascular complications. Endothelial-colony forming cells (ECFCs) act as a biomarker of vascular damage but their role in SARS-CoV-2 remain unclear. The aim of this study was to assess whether the number of ECFCs and angiogenic biomarkers remained altered after 6 and 12-months post-infection and whether this imbalance correlated with the presence of long-COVID syndrome and other biological parameters measured. METHODS Seventy-two patients were recruited at different time-points after overcoming COVID-19 and thirty-one healthy controls. All subjects were matched for age, gender, BMI, and comorbidities. ECFCs were obtained from peripheral blood and cultured with specific conditions. RESULTS The results confirm the presence of a long-term sequela in post-COVID-19 patients, with an abnormal increase in ECFC production compared to controls (82.8% vs. 48.4%, P < 0.01) that is maintained up to 6-months (87.0% vs. 48.4%, P < 0.01) and 12-months post-infection (85.0% vs. 48.4%, P < 0.01). Interestingly, post-COVID-19 patients showed a significant downregulation of angiogenesis-related proteins compared to controls indicating a clear endothelial injury. Troponin, NT-proBNP and ferritin levels, markers of cardiovascular risk and inflammation, remained elevated up to 12-months post-infection. Patients with lower numbers of ECFC exhibited higher levels of inflammatory markers, such as ferritin, suggesting that ECFCs may play a protective role. Additionally, long-COVID syndrome was associated with higher ferritin levels and with female gender. CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight the presence of vascular sequela that last up to 6- and 12-months post-infection and point out the need for preventive measures and patient follow-up.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVE To assess the impact of preoperative infection with the contemporary strain of severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on postoperative mortality, respiratory morbidity and extrapulmonary complications after elective, noncardiac surgery. DESIGN An ambidirectional observational cohort study. SETTING A tertiary and teaching hospital in Shanghai, China. PATIENTS All adult patients (≥ 18 years of age) who underwent elective, noncardiac surgery under general anesthesia at Huashan Hospital of Fudan University from January until March 2023 were screened for eligibility. A total of 2907 patients were included. EXPOSURE Preoperative coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positivity. MEASUREMENTS The primary outcome was 30-day postoperative mortality. The secondary outcomes included postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs), myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery (MINS), acute kidney injury (AKI), postoperative delirium (POD) and postoperative sleep quality. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the risk of postoperative mortality and morbidity imposed by preoperative COVID-19. MAIN RESULTS The risk of 30-day postoperative mortality was not associated with preoperative COVID-19 [adjusted odds ratio (aOR), 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.40, 0.13-1.28, P = 0.123] or operation timing relative to diagnosis. Preoperative COVID-19 did not increase the risk of PPCs (aOR, 95% CI: 0.99, 0.71-1.38, P = 0.944), MINS (aOR, 95% CI: 0.54, 0.22-1.30; P = 0.168), or AKI (aOR, 95% CI: 0.34, 0.10-1.09; P = 0.070) or affect postoperative sleep quality. Patients who underwent surgery within 7 weeks after COVID-19 had increased odds of developing delirium (aOR, 95% CI: 2.26, 1.05-4.86, P = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS Preoperative COVID-19 or timing of surgery relative to diagnosis did not confer any added risk of 30-day postoperative mortality, PPCs, MINS or AKI. However, recent COVID-19 increased the risk of POD. Perioperative brain health should be considered during preoperative risk assessment for COVID-19 survivors.

Abstract
Currently, the emergence of the endemic Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation still poses a serious threat to public health. However, it remains elusive about the role of fecal microbiota transplantation in treating COVID-19. We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial enrolling a cohort of 40 COVID-19 patients with mild-moderate symptoms. Our results showed that fecal microbiota transplantation provided an amelioration in diarrhoea (p = 0.026) of digestive system and depression (p = 0.006) of neuropsychiatric-related symptom in COVID-19 patients, respectively. Meanwhile, we found that the number of patients with diarrhoea decreased from 19 to 0 on day 7 after fecal microbiota transplantation treatment, and it was statistically changed compared to the placebo group (p = 0.047). Of note, the serum concentration of aspartate aminotransferase-to-alanine aminotransferase ratio (AST/ALT, fecal microbiota transplantation, pre vs. post: 0.966 vs. 0.817), a biomarker for predicting long COVID-19, was significantly reduced by fecal microbiota transplantation. In all, our study supports that fecal microbiota transplantation could be a novel therapeutic strategy for COVID-19 patients with diarrhoea and depressive symptoms, which is potentially valuable in ameliorating long COVID-19 symptoms.

Abstract
Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, sparked by the emergence of a novel coronavirus in early 2020, has prompted a surge in published articles. This study aims to systematically analyse the characteristics and trends of impactful research in the field. The 100 most-cited publications associated with COVID-19 were identified by two independent reviewers using the 'Web of Science' database across all available journals up to the year 2023. Data collected include country, citation count, subject, level of evidence (using Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine System 2011), impact factor, funding, and study design. We identified 394 038 publications, and the 100 most-cited publications were ranked. These were cited by a total of 283 034 articles (median citation = 767), median impact factor of 66.9 and 72 articles with fundings. China (n = 44), USA (n = 19), and UK (n = 13) were the three highest contributors (n = 220 505). Most articles were level 5 evidence (n = 48), followed by level 3 (n = 28), 4 (n = 14), 2 (n = 7), and 1 (n = 3). The main subjects were mechanism of action and structures of SARS-CoV-2 virus (n = 18) and impact of COVID-19 on public health (n = 18). Publications in 2022 and 2023 predominantly focused on the impact of COVID-19. Majority of the highly cited studies were of low-to-moderate quality, with only 10 consisting of randomized controlled trials or systematic reviews with or without meta-analysis. These findings reflect a growing interest in understanding the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on public and mental health. This analysis found the potential for future double-blinded randomized controlled trials to validate existing findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Corticosteroids have beneficial effects in improving outcomes in hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 by suppressing excessive immune responses. However, the effect of corticosteroids on the humoral and T-cell responses of survivors of COVID-19 1 year after infection remains uncertain, as it relates to the extent of immediate, antigen-specific defense provided by protective memory. RESEARCH QUESTION What is the effect of corticosteroids on long-term humoral and T-cell immune responses? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS In this retrospective cohort study conducted at a single center, we analyzed data from a cohort who had survived COVID-19 to compare the 1-year seropositivity and titer changes in neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) and SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies. Additionally, we evaluated the magnitude and rate of SARS-CoV-2-specific T-cell response in individuals who received corticosteroids during hospitalization and those who did not. RESULTS Our findings indicated that corticosteroids do not statistically influence the kinetics or seropositive rate of NAbs against the Wuhan strain of SARS-CoV-2 from 6 months to 1 year. However, subgroup analysis revealed a numerical increase of NAbs titers, from 20.0 to 28.2, in categories where long-term (> 15 days) and high-dose (> 560 mg) corticosteroids were administered. Similarly, corticosteroids showed no significant effect on nucleoprotein and receptor-binding domain IgG at 1 year, except for spike protein IgG (β, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.04-0.12), which demonstrated a delayed decline of titers. Regarding T-cell immunity, corticosteroids did not affect the rate or magnitude of T-cell responses significantly. However, functional assessment of memory T cells revealed higher interferon-γ responses in CD4 (β, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.10-1.12) and CD8 (β, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.11-1.15) memory T cells in the corticosteroids group at 1 year. INTERPRETATION Based on our findings, short-term and low-dose corticosteroid therapy during hospitalization does not appear to have a significant effect on long-term humoral kinetics or the magnitude and rate of memory T-cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 antigens. However, the potential harmful effects of long-term and high-dose corticosteroid use on memory immune responses require further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-COVID is a multisystem disease that can lead to significant impairments in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Following COVID-19 infection, abnormalities on pulmonary function tests (PFT) are common. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate for any correlation between PFT abnormalities and impairment in HRQoL scores following COVID-19 infection. METHODS This is an analysis of a prospective cohort of patients in Louisville, KY who were infected with COVID-19. Data collected included demographics, past medical history, laboratory tests, PFTs, and several HRQoL questionnaires such as the EuroQol 5 Dimension HRQoL questionnaire (EQ-5D-5 L), Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and Posttraumatic stress disorder checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). Descriptive statistics were performed, comparing PFTs (normal vs abnormal) and time since COVID-19 infection (3- vs 6- vs ≥ 12 months). RESULTS There were no significant differences in FEV1, FVC, or the percentage of patients with abnormal PFTs over time after COVID-19 infection. Following COVID-19, patients with normal PFTs had worse impairment in mobility HRQoL scores and change in GAD-7 scores over time. There were no differences over time in any of the HRQoL scores among patients with abnormal PFTs. CONCLUSIONS Among patients with an abnormal PFT, there was no temporal association with HRQoL scores as measured by EQ-5D-5 L, GAD-7, PHQ-9, and PCL-5. Among patients with a normal PFT, mobility impairment and anxiety may be associated with COVID-19 infection. Following COVID-19 infection, impairment in HRQoL scores is not completely explained by the presence of abnormalities on spirometry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) conditions (PCCs) beyond 3 years and identify factors associated with their persistence longer than 2 years. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey. METHODS We surveyed patients who had recovered from COVID-19 and visited our institution from February 2020 to November 2021. Demographic and clinical data and information on the presence and duration of PCCs were obtained. We identified factors associated with the persistence of PCCs longer than 2 years using multivariate linear regression analyses. RESULTS Among 935 patients surveyed, 407 completed the survey. Among them, 360 patients had mild disease in the acute phase. The proportions of participants with at least one symptom at 1, 2, and 3 years after symptom onset or COVID-19 diagnosis were 33.2%, 29.8%, and 5.7%, respectively. The numbers of participants with and without any residual symptoms 2 years after the onset of COVID-19 were 87 and 193, respectively. After multivariate adjustment, persistence of PCCs longer than 2 years was associated with lower body mass index, presence of any underlying medical conditions, and number of symptoms lasting for more than 1 month ≥ 5. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of PCCs decreased 2 years after symptom onset or COVID-19 diagnosis. We also identified factors associated with PCC persistence longer than 2 years, which could help primary care physicians and patients with PCCs predict the duration of PCCs and better understand their natural history, thus reducing patients' anxiety about their duration.

Abstract
Background Recent reports have suggested that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection can cause pneumonitis even in the absence of clinical symptoms and COVID-19 associated pulmonary inflammation can persist resulting in long-term fibrosis. This single-center study utilized standardized immunological testing to determine whether lungs from COVID-19 seropositive donors, indicative of past COVID-19 infection, can be safely used for clinical transplantation. Methods The study included 90 consecutive lung transplant procedures incorporating donor serological testing for past COVID-19 infection. Donors were negative for active COVID-19 infection and met institutional criteria to be used for lung transplantation. The outcomes of lung transplant recipients were compared between donors with and without serological evidence of past COVID-19 infection. Results No significant difference was found in post-transplant survival rates between recipients of lungs obtained from donors with serological evidence compared to those without. Additionally, there were no significant differences in primary graft dysfunction grade 3 rates or other post-transplant clinical parameters, such as operative time, ischemic time, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation use, intensive care unit stay, and hospital stay. Conclusions Our findings suggest that lungs from COVID-19 seropositive donors, but not active COVID-19 infection are safe and feasible for transplantation, yielding comparable post-transplant outcomes to donors who are negative COVID-19 antibodies. This study supports the utilization of lungs from donors with historic COVID-19 infection as long as they meet current transplant criteria, potentially addressing the concerns related to the use of such organs.

Abstract
AIM This study evaluated the effectiveness of high-dose vitamin D supplementation in alleviating fatigue and neuropsychiatric symptoms in post-COVID syndrome. METHODS In an 8-week, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, 80 patients with post-COVID fatigue or neuropsychiatric symptoms were enrolled. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 60,000 IU of vitamin D weekly (n = 40) or a placebo (n = 40) for 8 weeks. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the 11-item Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFQ-11); 21-item Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21); Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI); Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III (ACE); and Trail Making Test A and B (TMT-A and TMT-B). Baseline and 8-week measurements of inflammatory markers, including interleukin 6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP), were also collected. RESULTS Significant improvements were found in the vitamin D group for CFQ (coefficient -3.5, P = 0.024), DASS-anxiety (-2.0, P = 0.011), and ACE (2.1, P = 0.012). No significant differences were observed in PSQI, DASS-depression, TMT, IL-6, or CRP levels. The incidence of adverse events was comparable between groups, with no serious adverse events reported. CONCLUSION High-dose vitamin D supplementation may benefit patients with post-COVID syndrome by reducing fatigue, alleviating anxiety, and improving cognitive symptoms, with minimal side effects.

Abstract
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES Little is known about the long-term impact of diabetes on lung impairment in COVID-19 survivors over a three-year period. This study evaluated the long-term impact of diabetes on persistent radiological pulmonary abnormalities and lung function impairment in COVID-19 survivors over three years. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this prospective, multicenter, cohort study, pulmonary sequelae were compared between COVID-19 survivors with and without diabetes. Serial chest CT scans, symptom questionnaires and pulmonary function tests were obtained 6 months, 12 months, 2 years and 3 years post-discharge. The independent predictors for lung dysfunction at the 3-year follow-up were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 278 COVID-19 survivors (63 [IQR 57-69] year-old, female: 103 [37.0%]) were included. At the 3-year follow-up, individuals in the diabetes group had higher incidences of respiratory symptoms, radiological pulmonary abnormalities and pulmonary diffusion dysfunction than those in the control group. Diabetes (OR: 2.18, 95% CI: 1.04-4.59, p = 0.034), allergy (OR: 2.26, 95% CI: 1.09-4.74, p = 0.029), female (OR: 2.70, 95% CI: 1.37-5.29, p = 0.004), severe COVID-19 (OR: 4.10, 95% CI: 1.54-10.93, p = 0.005), and fibrotic-like CT changes (OR: 5.64, 95% CI: 2.28-13.98, p < 0.001) were independent predictors of pulmonary diffusion dysfunction in COVID-19 survivors. CONCLUSION These results highlight the long-term deleterious effect of diabetes status on radiological pulmonary abnormalities and pulmonary dysfunction in COVID-19 survivors. This study provides important evidence support for long-term monitoring of lung abnormalities in COVID-19 recovery survivors with diabetes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term pulmonary complications have been reported after a coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). We hypothesized that a history of COVID-19 is associated with a measurable decrease in baseline respiratory system compliance in patients undergoing general anesthesia. METHODS In this hospital registry study, we included adult patients undergoing general anesthesia between January 2020 and March 2022 at a tertiary health care network in Massachusetts. We excluded patients with an American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status >IV, laryngoscopic surgeries, and patients who arrived intubated. The primary exposure was a history of COVID-19. The primary outcome was baseline respiratory system compliance (mL/cmH2O). Effects of severity of infection, surges (Alpha1, Alpha2, Delta, and Omicron), patient demographics, and time between infection and assessment of compliance were investigated. RESULTS A total of 19,921 patients were included. Approximately 1386 (7.0%) patients had a history of COVID-19. A history of COVID-19 at any time before surgery was associated with a measurably lower baseline respiratory system compliance (ratio of meansadj = 0.96; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.94-0.97; P < .001; adjusted compliance difference: -1.6 mL/cmH2O). The association was more pronounced in patients with a severe form of COVID-19 (ratio of meansadj = 0.95; 95% CI, 0.90-0.99; P = .02, adjusted compliance difference: -2 mL/cmH2O). Alpha1, Alpha2, and Delta surges, but not Omicron, led to a lower baseline respiratory system compliance (P < .001, P = .02, and P < .001). The Delta surge effect was magnified in Hispanic ethnicity (P-for-interaction = 0.003; ratio of meansadj = 0.83; 95% CI, 0.74-0.93; P = .001; adjusted compliance difference: -4.6 mL/cmH2O). CONCLUSIONS A history of COVID-19 infection during Alpha1, Alpha2, and Delta surges was associated with a measurably lower baseline respiratory system compliance.
