Abstract
AIMS To identify hub metabolic biomarkers that constructively shape the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk network. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analysed data from 98 831 UK Biobank participants, confirming T2DM diagnoses via medical records and International Classification of Diseases codes. Totally 168 circulating metabolites were quantified by nuclear magnetic resonance at baseline. Metabolome-wide association studies with Cox proportional hazards models were performed to identify statistically significant metabolites. Network analysis was applied to compute topological attributes (degree, betweenness, closeness and eigencentrality) and to detect small-world features (high clustering, short path lengths). Identified metabolites were used with XGBoost models to assess risk prediction performance. RESULTS Over a median 12-year follow-up, 114 metabolites were significantly associated with T2DM risk and clustered into three distinct small-world modules. Total triglycerides and large high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol emerged as the pivotal biomarkers in the 'risk' and 'protective' modules, respectively, as evidenced by their high eigencentrality. Moreover, total branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) exhibited small-world network characteristics exclusively in pre-T2DM individuals, suggesting them as a potent early indicators. GlycA demonstrated high closeness centrality in females, implying a female-specific risk biomarker. CONCLUSIONS By constructing a metabolic network that captures the complex interrelationships among circulating metabolites, our study identified total triglycerides and large HDL cholesterol as central hubs in the T2DM risk metabolome network. BCAA and GlycA emerged as alarm indicators for pre-T2DM individuals and females, respectively. Network analysis not only elucidates the topological functional roles of biomarkers but also addresses the limitations of false positives and collinearity in single-metabolite studies, offering insights for metabolic pathway research and precision interventions.

Abstract
Obesity represents a significant global public health issue, contributing to the rising prevalence of metabolic diseases. One treatment for obesity is orlistat, a drug that inhibits pancreatic lipase. It is widely used due to its efficacy in reducing dietary fat absorption. However, patient adherence to this drug is often hindered by its associated adverse effects. As a result, there is an increasing interest in exploring alternative therapeutic options derived from natural sources, such as plants and algae, particularly extracts and their bioactive compounds. These extracts and compounds have shown potential in inhibiting pancreatic lipase and other markers associated with obesity. Nevertheless, they also present certain limitations, including low bioavailability. In this context, combination therapy involving orlistat and these extracts or their compounds has emerged as a promising strategy. This approach aims to enhance the inhibition of pancreatic lipase and other obesity-related markers, thereby improving therapeutic outcomes and reducing adverse effects associated with treatment. The objective of this review is to analyze the available scientific evidence regarding the combined effects of orlistat and extracts or bioactive compounds in inhibiting various markers related to dyslipidemia and obesity, with the goal of proposing combination therapy as a safe and effective therapeutic option.

Abstract
The effects of low-fat dairy products on insulin resistance (IR), hepatic steatosis, and gut microbiota composition in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed obese mice were examined. C57BL/6 male mice (n = 16/group) were fed a high-fat diet (HFD, 45% fat) or HFD supplemented with either fat-free milk (MILK), fat-free yogurt (YOG), or reduced-fat (19% milk fat) cheddar cheese (CHE) at 10% of the total energy intake for 8 weeks. Body weight, fat mass, liver lipids, and metabolic enzymes were evaluated. Compared with HFD, MILK reduced homeostatic assessment of insulin resistance along with increased hepatic insulin signaling and decreased hepatic gluconeogenic enzymes. YOG and MILK decreased hepatic triacylglycerol content and lipid droplet size, while CHE had no effect. In the liver, MILK and YOG downregulated de novo lipogenesis enzymes. In MILK, fat oxidation capacity was elevated. Compared with HFD, liver lipidomic analysis in MILK and YOG revealed unique profiles of decreased proinflammatory lipid species, including ceramides. Dairy feeding elicited an increase in beneficial bacteria, such as Streptococcus in YOG and Anaero-tignum in MILK, as shown by 16S rRNA sequencing of gut microbiota. In conclusion, the ability of milk and yogurt to reduce hepatic steatosis in HFD mice may be explained, at least in part, by the regulation of the gut microbiome and liver lipidome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Though evidence is limited, animal products like pork sausages and cheese may affect satiety differently due to their distinct protein, fat, and calcium content. This study therefore compared their acute effects on breakfast using appetite-related markers. METHODS A total of 11 women and 13 men, with a mean age of 23.0 ± 2.6 years and mean BMI of 24.5 ± 2.6 kg/m2, participated in this crossover design study. Concentrations of active ghrelin, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), cholecystokinin (CCK), insulin, glucose, leptin, and blood lipids were measured. Subjective feelings of appetite using visual analogue scales were analyzed (0-4 h) as a response to two test breakfasts meals with a similar energy and macronutrient content. Appetite feelings and energy intake from an ad libitum buffet lunch were subsequently measured. Data were analyzed using two different ANOVA methods. RESULTS The pork sausage breakfast was characterized by an earlier triglyceride (TG) peak than the cheese. A slower TG clearance was seen with the cheese breakfast. Ghrelin suppression was longer in the pork sausage breakfast. Active GLP-1 concentration was higher following the cheese breakfast and active GIP declined slower. The two ANOVA methods disagreed regarding the insulin effect. Subjective feelings of hunger before buffet and ad libitum energy intake were higher in males (791 ± 64 kcal) compared with females (344 ± 32 kcal), but did not differ between breakfast types. CONCLUSIONS Acute consumption of pork and cheese of the same energy, fat, and protein content provided detectable differences in appetite-related hormones and lipid responses. Appetite and lipid metabolism were affected by the major differentiators of the test meals, namely calcium, fatty acids and amino acids compositions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Postprandial inflammation post-high-fat meals may be linked to cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD incidence increases with age; however, whether older adults experience greater postprandial inflammation remains unclear. We examined whether analyzing age categorically versus continuously influenced relationships between age and postprandial inflammatory measures. DESIGN Cross-sectional. SETTING Laboratory for Applied Nutrition and Exercise Science at Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK, USA). PARTICIPANTS 56 apparently healthy adults ages 20-69 years. MEASUREMENTS We measured interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α at baseline, 2-, 4-, and 6 -hs post-high-fat meal (9 kcal/kg; 70% fat). Data were examined in the full sample with paired t-tests (baseline to peak), by pre-defined age groups (i.e., 18-35, 36-49, 50-59, 60-69) using ANCOVA, and continuously using linear regression. RESULTS Across the full sample, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 increased after the high-fat meal (p's≤0.018). Cytokine differences post-high-fat meal by age category were generally not observed. However, age was positively associated with IL-6 incremental AUC when examined continuously (b = 0.029; p = 0.010). CONCLUSION These data suggest increasing age is linked to a greater IL-6 response to a high-fat meal. Further, examining age continuously may have greater utility when studying aging and postprandial inflammation. REGISTRATION N/A (secondary analysis).

Abstract
Evidence suggests beneficial effects of long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in inflammatory diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms are still subject of research. For this purpose, we developed an ex vivo n-3 PUFA supplementation strategy. M2-like macrophages were supplemented for 2-3 days with 20-40 µM docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) during differentiation. Quality parameters include <3% oxylipins for PUFA-preparation, total fatty acids (FAs) <10 mM, and low oxylipins in plasma, n-3 PUFA <0.25 mM for the selection of donors of plasma as well as %n-6 in highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs) ≥70% for donors of cells. Following supplementation, PUFA pattern of cells was shifted toward one described for blood and tissue from subjects with higher n-3 and lower n-6 PUFAs. This was accompanied by a decrease of arachidonic acid-derived oxylipins in a dose- and time-dependent manner in favor of n-3 PUFA ones. Stimulation with LPS resulted in decreased levels of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins in the DHA-supplemented cells, but no changes in cytokines. In vitro supplementation studies with n-3 PUFA need rigorous controls to exclude the background formation of oxylipins. By accounting for these possible confounders the described approach allows the mechanistic investigation of n-3 PUFAs in primary human immune cells, offering an alternative for intervention studies.

Abstract
Plant-based meat alternative (PBMA) consumption has increased amid significant reformulation efforts. Although reformulated PBMAs have characteristics that could provide cardiometabolic benefits over animal proteins (e.g., higher fiber, certain phytochemicals/micronutrients), their acute health effects remain unclear. Moreover, whether baseline adiposity (i.e., normal weight or overweight/obesity) affects the response to PBMA intake is unknown. We conducted a randomized crossover study where healthy participants (N = 30) with a normal body mass index (BMI; 18.5-24.9 kg/m2; n = 15) or overweight/obese BMI (>25.0 kg/m2; n = 15) consumed two high-fat meals on separate occasions containing a reformulated PBMA (Beyond Meat Cookout ClassicTM) or similar beef product (80% lean ground beef). Meals were matched for energy (950 kcal) and macronutrient matched (71 g fat/31-35 g carbohydrate/41-42 g protein). At each trial, an intravenous catheter was inserted and biomarkers of inflammation (i.e., interleukin (IL)-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α), intestinal permeability (i.e., lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP), soluble CD14 (sCD14), LBP:sCD14 ratio), and metabolic factors (triglycerides, HDL-C, glucose) were measured at baseline and hourly for 4 hours post-meal. Paired t tests and two-way mixed model ANOVAs were used to examine within-meal-condition changes and differences in incremental area under the curve (iAUC) across meal and BMI conditions, respectively. Regardless of protein source, high-fat meals increased IL-6, TNF-α, LBP, sCD14, LBP:sCD14, and triglycerides and decreased HDL-C (p ≤ 0.01). In BMI subgroup analyses, an interaction effect for IL-6 iAUC was observed (pMealxBMI < 0.05), but post hoc analyses were not significant (p ≥ 0.07). Overall, inclusion of a reformulated PBMA within a high-fat meal resulted in a similar cardiometabolic response to a nearly identical meal containing animal protein (ClinicalTrials.gov:NCT06445296).

Abstract
This study investigates the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its association with disease activity in children with Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). A retrospective chart review of 142 JDM patients who had fasting lipid profiles was conducted. Clinical, and laboratory indicators of disease activity at the time of lipid assessment were obtained. JDM patients displayed a high prevalence (72%) of abnormal or borderline fasting lipid profiles, particularly involving HDL and triglycerides. Treatment-naïve patients exhibited the most significant dyslipidemia, with significantly lower median HDL levels compared to those on medication (30 vs. 49 mg/dL, p < 0.0001). HDL levels inversely correlated with various disease activity measures, including disease activity score (DAS) total (r= -0.38, p < 0.001), DAS muscle weakness (r= -0.5, p < 0.001), DAS skin (r= -0.25, p = 0.003), neopterin (r= -0.41, p < 0.001), ESR (r= -0.25, p = 0.006), and vWF Ag (r= -0.21, p = 0.02). In conclusion, JDM patients have a high prevalence of dyslipidemia, especially low HDL and elevated triglycerides. The severity of dyslipidemia (low HDL) correlates with disease activity, with treatment-naïve patients demonstrating the lowest HDL levels. These findings suggest the importance of annual lipid profile monitoring in JDM patients, potentially followed by early interventions such as dietary adjustments and exercise programs.

Abstract
Elevated triglycerides (TG) are a risk factor for cardiometabolic disorders. There are limited data on lipidomics profiles associated with serum triglycerides concentrations, although these could advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying these associations. We conducted a lipidomics study of 308 Nigerians with replication in 199 Kenyans. Regression models were used to assess the association of TG with 480 lipid metabolites. Association and mediation analyses were conducted to determine the relationship among TG, metabolites, and several cardiometabolic traits. Ninety-nine metabolites were significantly associated with TG, and 91% of these associations replicated. Overrepresentation analysis identified enrichment of diacylglycerols, monoacylglycerols, diacylglycerophosphoethanolamines, monoacylglycerophosphocholines, ceramide phosphocholines, and diacylglycerophosphocholines. TG-cardiometabolic trait associations were largely mediated by TG-associated metabolites. Associations with type 2 diabetes, waist circumference, body mass index, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration were independently mediated by metabolites in multiple subpathways. This lipidomics study in sub-Saharan Africans demonstrated that TG is associated with several non-TG lipids classes, including phosphatidylethanolamines, phosphatidylcholines, lysophospholipids, and plasmalogens, some of which may mediate the effect of TG as a risk factor for cardiometabolic disorders. The study identifies metabolites that are more proximal to cardiometabolic traits, which may be useful for understanding the underlying biology as well as differences in TG-trait associations across ancestries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Childhood obesity increases metabolic disease risk. Underlying mechanisms remain unknown. We examined associations of body mass index (BMI), total body fat mass, and visceral fat mass with serum metabolites at school-age, and explored whether identified metabolites improved the identification of children at risk of a metabolically unhealthy phenotype. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional analysis among 497 children with a mean age of 9.8 (95% range 9.1, 10.6) years, participating in a population-based cohort study. We measured BMI, total body fat mass using DXA, and visceral fat mass using MRI. Serum concentrations of amino-acids, non-esterified-fatty-acids, phospholipids, and carnitines were determined using LC-MS/MS. Children were categorized as metabolically healthy or metabolically unhealthy, according to BMI, blood pressure, lipids, glucose, and insulin levels. RESULTS Higher BMI and total body fat mass were associated with altered concentrations of branched-chain amino-acids, essential amino-acids, and free carnitines. Higher BMI was also associated with higher concentrations of aromatic amino-acids and alkyl-lysophosphatidylcholines (FDR-corrected p-values < 0.05). The strongest associations were present for Lyso.PC.a.C14.0 and SM.a.C32.2 (FDR-corrected p-values < 0.01). Higher visceral fat mass was only associated with higher concentrations of 6 individual metabolites, particularly Lyso.PC.a.C14.0, PC.aa.C32.1, and SM.a.C32.2. We selected 15 metabolites that improved the prediction of a metabolically unhealthy phenotype, compared to BMI only (AUC: BMI: 0.59 [95% CI 0.47,0.71], BMI + Metabolites: 0.91 [95% CI 0.85,0.97]). CONCLUSIONS An adverse childhood body fat profile, characterized by higher BMI and total body fat mass, is associated with metabolic alterations, particularly in amino acids, phospholipids, and carnitines. Fewer associations were present for visceral fat mass. We identified a metabolite profile that improved the identification of impaired cardiometabolic health in children, compared to BMI only.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The identification of salivary molecules that can be associated to dental caries could provide insights about caries risk and offer valuable information to develop caries prediction models. However, the search for a universal caries biomarker has proven elusive due to the multifactorial nature of this oral disease. We have therefore performed a systematic effort to identify caries-associated metabolites and proteins in saliva samples from adolescents that had a caries experience and those that were caries-free. METHODS Quantification of approximately 100 molecules was performed by the use of a wide range of techniques, ranging from nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomics to ELISA, Luminex or colorimetric assays, as well as clinical features like plaque accumulation and gingival index. In addition, simplified dietary and oral hygiene habits questionnaires were also obtained. RESULTS The caries-free group had significantly lower consumption of sweetened beverages and higher tooth brushing frequency. Surprisingly, very few compounds were found to individually provide discriminatory power between caries-experienced and caries-free individuals. The data analysis revealed several potential reasons that could underly this lack of association value with caries, including differences in metabolite concentrations throughout the day, a lack of correlation between metabolite concentrations in plaque and saliva, or sex-related differences, among others. However, when multiple compounds were combined by multivariate analysis and random forest modeling, a combination of 3-5 compounds were found to provide good prediction models for morning (with an AUC accuracy of 0.87) and especially afternoon samples (AUC = 0.93). CONCLUSION While few salivary biomarkers could differentiate between caries-free and caries-experienced adolescents, a combination of markers proved effective, particularly in afternoon samples. To predict caries risk, these biomarkers should be validated in larger cohorts and longitudinal settings, considering factors such as gender differences, and variations in oral hygiene and diet.

Abstract
Background Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinological condition affecting women of reproductive age, associated with insulin resistance and obesity. PCOS pathogenesis is complex and multifactorial, involving genetic and environmental factors. Objectives This study aimed to determine and compare genotype and allele frequencies of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the apolipoprotein A5 (APOA5; rs662799) and perilipin 1 (PLIN1; rs894160, rs1052700 and rs6496589) genes in Western Saudi women to investigate their association with PCOS and its clinical characteristics. Design and methods This was a case-control study conducted on women with (n = 104) and without (n = 87) PCOS. The SNPs were genotyped using TaqMan genotyping assays. Results Significant and direct associations were detected between PCOS susceptibility and APOA5 SNP rs662799 and PLIN1 SNP rs894160 (P < .001). For APOA5 SNP rs662799, women with the A allele were more likely to have PCOS (relative risk [RR] = 1.348, odds ratio [OR] = 2.313, P < .001) and hypertriglyceridaemia (OR = 17.0, P = .5) than women with the G allele. For PLIN1 SNP rs894160, women with the T allele were more likely to have PCOS than women with the C allele (RR = 8.043, OR = 7.427, P < .001). For PLIN1 SNP rs1052700, women with the TT genotype were more likely to have hyperandrogenism (OR = 29.75, P = .02) and an irregular period (OR = 0.07, P = .040) than women with the AT genotype. Conclusion We identified novel alleles and genotypes contributing to the genetic risk of PCOS in the Western Saudi population.

Abstract
Even in the absence of hyperglycemia or hyperlipidemia, it has been demonstrated that insulin resistance is an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis. Finding markers of insulin resistance that are associated with markers of atherosclerosis could help identify patients early in their disease course and allow for earlier initiation of preventative treatments. We reviewed available evidence regarding associations between known markers of insulin resistance and known markers of atherosclerosis. Serum triglycerides (TG), triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), and homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) were the insulin resistance markers reviewed. The coronary artery calcium score (CAC), carotid intimal medium thickness (cIMT), and pulse wave velocity (PWV) were reviewed as markers of atherosclerosis. TyG showed the most consistent association with CAC across broad demographic groups, though HOMA showed potential in obese individuals and those without diabetes. The data regarding cIMT and the reviewed insulin resistance markers did not yield any consistent associations, though very elevated TyG did appear to be associated with cIMT among normal weight individuals. Serum triglycerides showed a strong and consistent association with PWV across numerous studies and populations, though TyG index also demonstrated a strong association with PWV in a large systematic review. Of the insulin resistance markers reviewed, the TyG index appears to be most consistently associated with markers of atherosclerosis. TyG can be easily calculated with routine labwork and has the potential to inform decisions regarding early initiation of therapies in patients who would otherwise not be treated. Targeting insulin sensitivity prior to the development of T2DM has the potential to reduce development and progression of atherosclerosis, and patients without T2DM but who have elevated TyG index should be the topic of further research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to explore the association between triglycerides (TGs) and the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence. METHODS AND RESULTS Included were adult patients with AF who underwent radiofrequency catheter ablation in the Affiliated Changzhou Second People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. The enrolled patients were divided into the AF recurrence group and the sinus rhythm (SR) maintenance group. The univariate Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival curve were performed estimate the association between TG and the risk of AF recurrence. Of the 402 patients, 79 (19.7%) experienced recurrence of AF after ablation. The TG level was significantly higher in the AF recurrence group than in the SR-maintaining group. Patients were grouped by quartile of TG levels, with Quartile 1 and Quartile 2 defined as the low concentration group, Quartile 3 as the moderate concentration group, and Quartile 4 as the high concentration group. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the moderate concentration group (p = .02, hazard ratio [HR]: 2.331, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.141-4.762) and high concentration group (p = .007, HR: 2.873, 95% CI: 1.332-6.199) were associated with an increased risk of AF recurrence compared with the low concentration group. The median follow-up was 1.17 years, it is indicated that a higher risk of recurrent AF was observed in the moderate concentration and high concentration group (log-rank: χ2 = 7.540, p = .023). CONCLUSION Our data suggest that an elevated TG level measured before catheter ablation is associated with an increased risk of AF recurrence.

Abstract
Anthropometric indices, such as the BMI (body mass index), WC (waist circumference), and WHR (waist-hip ratio) are commonly used for cardiometabolic risk assessment. Consequently, in the context of evaluating cardiometabolic risk in the post-MI population, it is worthwhile to consider indices such as the Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) and Body Adiposity Index (BAI), which have emerged as valuable risk assessment tools in clinical trials. The aim of this study was to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the importance of anthropometric indices and body composition analysis in evaluating the cardiometabolic risk among post-myocardial infarction patients. In the pursuit of this objective, this study involved assessing the BMI, WC, WHR, WHtR, VAI, BAI, and body composition in a population of patients. This study enrolled a total of 120 patients hospitalised at the Silesian Centre for Heart Diseases (SCCS) due to MI, and body composition analysis evaluated various parameters including the percentage of adipose tissue (FatP) [%], total adipose tissue (FatM) [kg], fat-free mass (FFM) [kg], muscle mass (PMM) [kg], total body water (TBW) [kg], and visceral adipose tissue (VFAT). The mean BMI for the entire group was 27.76 ± 4.08, with women exhibiting a significantly lower value compared with men (26.66 ± 3.33 vs. 28.16 ± 4.27). The mean values obtained for the WHR, WHtR, BAI, and VAI were 0.97 ± 0.08, 0.59 ± 0.07, 28.37 ± 5.03, and 3.08 ± 3.50, respectively. Based on the visceral adiposity index (VAI), in 47.5% patients, there was no adipose tissue dysfunction, with a higher proportion among women (71.88%) compared with men (38.64%). What raises concern is that 32.50% of patients had acute ATD, with a significantly higher prevalence among men (38.64%) compared with women (15.63%). Conclusion: The study results suggest that the BMI, WC, and WHR have their limitations, whereas the WHtR, VAI, and BAI provide a more comprehensive view of cardiometabolic risk, especially in the context of adipose tissue distribution and its metabolic consequences. Incorporating the WHtR, VAI, and BAI into routine clinical practice may enhance the management of cardiometabolic risk, especially among post-MI patients.

Abstract
Angiopoietin-like proteins (ANGPTLs) -3, -4, and -8 are regulators of lipid metabolism and have been shown to respond to changes in dietary fats. It is unknown how ANGPTLs respond to cottonseed oil (CSO) and olive oil (OO) consumption in a population with hypercholesterolemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of CSO vs. OO consumption on fasting and postprandial ANGPTL responses in adults with hypercholesterolemia. We hypothesized that CSO would have lower fasting and postprandial ANGPTL responses compared with OO. Forty-two adults with high cholesterol completed a single-blind, randomized trial comparing CSO (n = 21) vs. OO (n = 21) diet enrichment. An 8-week partial outpatient feeding intervention provided ∼60% of the volunteers' total energy expenditure (∼30% of total energy expenditure as CSO or OO). The remaining 40% was not controlled. Fasting blood draws were taken at pre-, mid-, and postintervention visits. Volunteers consumed a high saturated fat meal followed by 5 hours of blood draws pre- and postvisits. Fasting ANGPTL3 had a marginally significant treatment by visit interaction (P = .06) showing an increase from pre- to postintervention in CSO vs. OO (CSO: 385.1 ± 27.7 to 440.3 ± 33.9 ng/mL; OO: 468.2 ± 38.3 to 449.2 ± 49.5 ng/mL). Both postprandial ANGPTL3 (P = .02) and ANGPTL4 (P < .01) had treatment by visit interactions suggesting increases from pre- to postintervention in OO vs. CSO with no differences between groups in ANGPTL8. These data show a worsening (increase) of postprandial ANGPTLs after the OO, but not CSO, intervention. This aligns with previously reported data in which postprandial triglycerides were protected from increases compared with OO. ANGPTLs may mediate protective effects of CSO consumption on lipid control. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04397055).

Abstract
Data suggest cannabis users have similar or lower levels of blood lipids compared to nonusers. However, the extent to which cannabis users experience postprandial lipemia is not known. Eleven cannabis users and 11 nonusers completed either rest or 1 h of exercise at their ventilatory threshold the evening before a meal tolerance test (MTT). Substrate oxidation, blood pressure, and capillary blood were obtained before and every 30-60 min post-meal for 3 h. Linear mixed models were utilized to examine differences in variables between groups, conditions, across time, and their interactions. Exercise led to increased fat oxidation post-MTT (p < 0.05), with cannabis users exhibiting higher AUC compared to the control trial (p < 0.05). Exercise also caused significantly lower levels of triglycerides (p < 0.05). Metabolic flexibility was improved in cannabis users in the exercise trial only (p < 0.05). No effect of group, trial, or interactions were detected for other variables of interest (all p > 0.05). This study indicated that prior exercise improves lipid metabolism in cannabis users and nonusers after a high-fat meal test. Cannabis users appear sensitive to the effects of exercise. Future studies should incorporate additional meals and variables related to cardiovascular health and metabolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Elevated postprandial triglycerides are an independent cardiovascular disease risk factor and observed in older adults. However, differences in postprandial triglycerides across the spectrum of adulthood remain unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS We performed a secondary analysis of six studies where adults (aged 18-84 years; N = 155) completed an abbreviated fat tolerance test (9 kcal/kg; 70% fat). Differences in postprandial triglycerides were compared in those ≥50 and <50 years and by decade of life, adjusting for sex and BMI. Compared to those <50 years, participants ≥50 years had higher fasting, 4 h, and Δ triglycerides from baseline (p's < 0.05). When examining triglyceride parameters by decade, no differences were observed for fasting triglycerides, but 50 s, 60 s, and 70s-80 s displayed greater 4 h and Δ triglycerides versus 20 s (p's ≤ 0.001). The frequency of adverse postprandial triglyceride responses (i.e., ≥220 mg/dL) was higher in participants ≥50 versus <50 years (p < 0.01), and in 60 s compared to all other decades (p = 0.01). CONCLUSION Older age was generally associated with higher postprandial triglycerides, with no divergence across the spectrum of older adulthood. In our sample, postprandial triglyceride differences in older and younger adults were driven by those >50 years relative to young adults in their 20 s. REGISTRATION N/A (secondary analysis).

Abstract
Background and aims It is suggested that the changes in atherosclerosis happen mainly under the influence of non-fasting lipids. To date, the studies in the postprandial state were primarily performed on healthy subjects. This exploratory, cross-sectional study investigates the change in lipid profile, inflammation, and platelet activation in patients with different cardiovascular risk profiles in the postprandial state. Methods The studied population consists of 66 patients with different cardiovascular risks: patients with a history of the chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) and diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) (n = 20), CCS without DM2 (n = 25), and a healthy control group (n = 21). Lipid variables and markers of platelet function and inflammation were assessed during the fasting state and three and 5 h after a standardized fat meal using a standardized oral fat tolerance test (OFTT), a milkshake with 90 g of fat. Results Patients with CCS and DM2 were significantly older and had the highest BMI. All patients with CCS were on acetylsalicylic acid, and 95% of CCS patients were on high-dose statins. The absolute leukocyte and neutrophile count increased significantly in the control group during the OFTT in comparison to CCS subjects. There was a significant decrease of HDL and increase of triglycerides during the OFTT, however with no difference between groups. There was no difference in the change of platelet activity between all groups. Conclusion This study showed that OFTT leads to an increased postprandial inflammation response in healthy group compared to CCS ± DM2 while there was no change in lipid profile and platelet activity.

Abstract
The association between the lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde (MDA)-modified low-density lipoprotein (MDA-LDL) and the pathophysiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is unclear. This association was studied in 17 children with ASD and seven age-matched controls regarding autistic behaviors. Behavioral symptoms were assessed using the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC). To compensate for the small sample size, adaptive Lasso was used to increase the likelihood of accurate prediction, and a coefficient of variation was calculated for suitable variable selection. Plasma MDA-LDL levels were significantly increased, and plasma SOD levels were significantly decreased in addition to significantly increased plasma docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels and significantly decreased plasma arachidonic acid (ARA) levels in the 17 subjects with ASD as compared with those of the seven healthy controls. The total ABC scores were significantly higher in the ASD group than in the control group. The results of multiple linear regression and adaptive Lasso analyses revealed an association between increased plasma DHA levels and decreased plasma ARA levels, which were significantly associated with total ABC score and increased plasma MDA-LDL levels. Therefore, an imbalance between plasma DHA and ARA levels induces ferroptosis via lipid peroxidation. Decreased levels of α-linolenic acid and γ-linolenic acid may be connected to the total ABC scores with regard to lipid peroxidation.

Abstract
Research investigating the effects of the food matrix on health is needed to untangle many unresolved questions in nutritional science. Emulsion structure plays a fundamental role in this inquiry; however, the effects of oil-in-water emulsion structure on broad metabolic, physiological, and health-related outcomes have not been comprehensively reviewed. This systematic scoping review targets this gap and examines methodological considerations for the field of relating food structure and health. MEDLINE, Web of Science, and CAB Direct were searched from inception to December 2022, returning 3106 articles, 52 of which were eligible for inclusion. Many investigated emulsion lipid droplet size and/or gastric colloidal stability and their relation to postprandial weight-loss-related outcomes. The present review also identifies numerous novel relationships between emulsion structures and health-related outcomes. "Omics" endpoints present an exciting avenue for more comprehensive analysis in this area, yet interpretation remains difficult. Identifying valid surrogate biomarkers for long-term outcomes and disease risk will be a turning point for food structure research, leading to breakthroughs in the pace and utility of research that generates advancements in health. Abstract
Previously, it has been indicated that oat polar lipids included in a liquid meal may have the potential to beneficially modulate various cardiometabolic variables. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of oat polar lipids in a solid food matrix on acute and second meal glucose tolerance, blood lipids, and concentrations of gut-derived hormones. The oat polar lipids were consumed at breakfast and effects on the biomarkers were investigated in the postprandial period and following a standardized lunch. Twenty young, healthy subjects consumed in total four different breakfast meals in a crossover study design. The breakfasts consisted of 1. White wheat bread (WWB) with an added 7.5 g of oat polar lipids (PLL); 2. WWB with an added 15 g of oat polar lipids (PLH); 3. WWB with and added 16.6 g of rapeseed oil (RSO) as a representative of commonly consumed oils; and 4. WWB consumed alone, included as a reference. All products with added lipids contained equivalent amounts of fat (16.6 g) and available carbohydrates (50 g). Rapeseed oil was added to the oat polar lipid meals to equal 16.6 g of total fat. The standardized lunch was composed of WWB and meatballs and was served 3.5 h after the breakfast. Test variables (blood glucose, serum insulin, triglyceride (TG), free fatty acids (FFA), ghrelin, GLP-1, PYY, and GIP) were measured at fasting and repeatedly during the 5.5 h after ingestion of the breakfast. After breakfast, PLH substantially lowered postprandial glucose and insulin responses (iAUC 0-120 min) compared with RSO and WWB (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a reduced glycaemic response to lunch (210-330 min) was observed following the PLH breakfast compared to all of the other breakfasts served (p < 0.05). Oat polar lipids (PLH) significantly reduced TG and ghrelin and increased circulating gut hormones GLP-1 and PYY compared to RSO (p < 0.05). The results show that exchanging part of the dietary lipids with oat polar lipids has the potential to improve postprandial blood glucose regulation and gut hormones and thus may have a preventive effect against type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Previous studies consistently report a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors among firefighters. However, the clustering of CVD risk factors, defined as metabolic syndrome (MetSyn), has received little attention by comparison. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate the pooled prevalence of MetSyn among firefighters. Using combinations of free text for 'firefighter' and 'metabolic syndrome', databases were searched for eligible studies. Meta-analyses calculated weighted pooled prevalence estimates with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for MetSyn, its components and overweight/obesity. Univariate meta-regression was performed to explore sources of heterogeneity. Of 1440 articles screened, 25 studies were included in the final analysis. The pooled prevalence of MetSyn in 31,309 firefighters was 22.3% (95% CI: 17.7-27.0%). The prevalences of MetSyn components were hypertension: 39.1%; abdominal obesity: 37.9%; hypertriglyceridemia: 30.2%; dyslipidemia: 30.1%; and hyperglycemia: 21.1%. Overweight and obesity prevalence rates in firefighters were 44.1% and 35.6%, respectively. Meta-regression revealed that decreased risk of bias (RoB) score and increased body mass index (BMI) were positively associated with an increase in MetSyn prevalence. Since one in five firefighters may meet the criteria for MetSyn, novel interventions should be explored to both prevent MetSyn and reduce the onset of CVD risk factors.

Abstract
We hypothesized that the consumption of a 3-day standard diet (SD) prior to the oral fat tolerance test (OFTT), used to evaluate postprandial lipemia, may counteract the undesirable effects of individual dietary habits on the test results. The OFTT was applied to 22 healthy adults (11 females and 11 males), after their habitual diets (HDs) and following the consumption of a 3-day SD (45-60% energy from carbohydrate, 20-35% from fat, and 10-20% from protein). Plasma triglyceride (TG) concentrations were measured during fasting and at the fourth hour of the OFTT. A 3-day SD significantly reduced fasting and fourth-hour TG concentrations and delta TG values by 10%, 12.8%, and 22.7%, respectively. Decreases were observed in fasting and fourth-hour TG and delta TG values following the 3-day SD compared to the HD in subjects with fasting TG concentrations between 89 and 180 mg/dL (p = 0.062, p = 0.018, and 0.047, respectively). As a result, the consumption of a 3-day standardized diet prior to the OFTT may be useful to eliminate the false positive or negative effects of individual dietary habits on test results and to correctly identify individuals who should be administered the OFTT.

Abstract
Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are a leading cause of premature death globally and have common preventable risk factors. In Norway, the NCDNOR-project aims at establishing new knowledge in the prevention of NCDs by combining information from national registries with data from population-based health studies. In the present study, we aimed to harmonize data on key NCD risk factors from the health studies, describe clustering of risk factors using intersection diagrams and latent class analysis, and identify long-term risk factor trajectories using latent class mixed models. The harmonized study sample consisted of 808,732 individuals (1,197,158 participations). Two-thirds were exposed to ≥ 1 NCD risk factor (daily smoking, physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia or hypertriglyceridaemia). In individuals exposed to ≥ 2 risk factors (24%), we identified five distinct clusters, all characterized by fewer years of education and lower income compared to individuals exposed to < 2 risk factors. We identified distinct long-term trajectories of smoking intensity, leisure-time physical activity, body mass index, blood pressure, and blood lipids. Individuals in the trajectories tended to differ across sex, education, and body mass index. This provides important insights into the mechanisms by which NCD risk factors can occur and may help the development of interventions aimed at preventing NCDs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Syndecan-4 (SDC4) is a member of the heparan sulfate proteoglycan family of cell-surface receptors. We and others previously reported that variation in the SDC4 gene was associated with several components of the metabolic syndrome, including intra-abdominal fat, fasting glucose and triglyceride levels, and hypertension, in human cohorts. Additionally, we demonstrated that high fat diet (HFD)-induced obese female mice with a Sdc4 genetic deletion had higher visceral adiposity and a worse metabolic profile than control mice. Here, we aimed to first investigate whether the mouse Sdc4 null mutation impacts metabolic phenotypes in a sex- and diet-dependent manner. We then tested whether SDC4 polymorphisms are related to the metabolic syndrome (MetS) in humans. METHODS For the mouse experiment, Sdc4-deficient (Sdc4-/-) and wild-type (WT) mice were treated with 14-weeks of low-fat diet (LFD). Body composition, energy balance, and selected metabolic phenotypes were assessed. For the human genetic study, we used logistic regression models to test 11 SDC4 SNPs for association with the MetS and its components in a cohort of 274 (113 with MetS) elderly subjects from southern Italy. RESULTS Following the dietary intervention in mice, we observed that the effects of the Sdc4 null mutation on several phenotypes were different from those previously reported in the mice kept on an HFD. Nonetheless, LFD-fed female Sdc4-/- mice, but not males, displayed higher levels of triglycerides and lower insulin sensitivity at fasting than WT mice, as seen earlier in the HFD conditions. In the parallel human study, we found that carriers of SDC4 rs2228384 allele C and rs2072785 allele T had reduced risk of MetS. The opposite was true for carriers of the SDC4 rs1981429 allele G. Additionally, the SNPs were found related to fasting triglyceride levels and triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, a reliable indicator of insulin resistance, with sex-stratified analysis detecting the association of rs1981429 with these phenotypes only in females. CONCLUSIONS Altogether, our results suggest that SDC4 is an evolutionary conserved genetic determinant of MetS and that its genetic variation is associated with fasting triglyceride levels in a female-specific manner.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, and diet plays an instrumental role in CVD development. Plant-based diets have been strongly tied to a reduction in CVD incidence. In contrast, animal food consumption may increase CVD risk. While increased serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations are an established risk factor which may partially explain the positive association with animal foods and CVD, numerous other biochemical factors are also at play. Thus, the aim of this review is to summarize the major cellular and molecular effects of animal food consumption in relation to CVD development. Animal-food-centered diets may (1) increase cardiovascular toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, due to increased serum endotoxins and oxidized LDL cholesterol, (2) increase cardiovascular lipotoxicity, (3) increase renin-angiotensin system components and subsequent angiotensin II type-1 receptor (AT1R) signaling and (4) increase serum trimethylamine-N-oxide concentrations. These nutritionally mediated factors independently increase cardiovascular oxidative stress and inflammation and are all independently tied to CVD development. Public policy efforts should continue to advocate for the consumption of a mostly plant-based diet, with the minimization of animal-based foods.

Abstract
Intermittent fasting appears an equivalent alternative to calorie restriction (CR) to improve health in humans. However, few trials have considered applying meal timing during the 'fasting' day, which may be a limitation. We developed a novel intermittent fasting plus early time-restricted eating (iTRE) approach. Adults (N = 209, 58 ± 10 years, 34.8 ± 4.7 kg m-2) at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes were randomized to one of three groups (2:2:1): iTRE (30% energy requirements between 0800 and 1200 hours and followed by a 20-h fasting period on three nonconsecutive days per week, and ad libitum eating on other days); CR (70% of energy requirements daily, without time prescription); or standard care (weight loss booklet). This open-label, parallel group, three-arm randomized controlled trial provided nutritional support to participants in the iTRE and CR arms for 6 months, with an additional 12-month follow-up. The primary outcome was change in glucose area under the curve in response to a mixed-meal tolerance test at month 6 in iTRE versus CR. Glucose tolerance was improved to a greater extent in iTRE compared with CR (-10.10 (95% confidence interval -14.08, -6.11) versus -3.57 (95% confidence interval -7.72, 0.57) mg dl-1 min-1; P = 0.03) at month 6, but these differences were lost at month 18. Adverse events were transient and generally mild. Reports of fatigue were higher in iTRE versus CR and standard care, whereas reports of constipation and headache were higher in iTRE and CR versus standard care. In conclusion, incorporating advice for meal timing with prolonged fasting led to greater improvements in postprandial glucose metabolism in adults at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to generate a core clinical dataset (CD) containing the minimum acceptable amount of information that should be collected for each patient presenting with triglyceride-induced acute pancreatitis within global treatment centres or sites. METHOD The Jandhyala Method, including systematic literature review and SMART interviews, was used to observe expert opinion from ten leaders in the treatment of triglyceride-induced acute pancreatitis (TG-IAP) across the US and EU. RESULTS Using the PRISMA Literature Review Protocol, data were extracted from 123 of the 6718 identified studies. A total of 243 items were identified from the data extracted from these studies and, combined with the unique items coded from the Awareness Round (1) survey, formed the Consensus Round (2) survey. One hundred and ninety-five of the 243 items (80%) met the consensus threshold and were included for appraisal in the SMART interview phase. A total of 109 items were agreed to form part of the current clinical diagnostic and monitoring procedure by all experts once the weights across all the stakeholder disciplines were balanced to eliminate bias. These items were further condensed to form the core dataset, comprising a total of 87 items. CONCLUSION Once validated and adopted, the TG-IAP CD will improve the overall management of patients with TG-IAP by speeding up diagnosis and detecting changes in disease severity and subsequent disease progression, informing personalized patient management plans, and improving patient outcomes.

Abstract
Background Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with serum lipid abnormalities, which partly normalize following direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy. Here, associations of serum triglycerides (TGs) with viral genotype and markers of liver disease severity were evaluated in patients with chronic HCV. Methods The study included the serum of 177 patients with chronic HCV. TGs were quantified by flow injection analysis Fourier transform mass spectrometry. Laboratory values and noninvasive scores for liver fibrosis assessment were determined. The nonparametric Kruskal‒Wallis test, one-way ANOVA, multiple linear regression and Student’s t test were used as appropriate. P values were adjusted for multiple comparisons. Results HCV-infected women had lower serum TGs than men, and thus, a sex-specific analysis was performed. None of the 46 TG species analyzed differed in the serum of female patients with and without liver cirrhosis. In contrast, in the serum of male patients with liver cirrhosis, TGs with 53, 56 and 58 carbon atoms and three to eight double bonds were diminished. These polyunsaturated TGs were also low in males with a high fibrosis-4 score. TGs with 7 or 8 double bonds negatively correlated with the model of end-stage liver disease score in males. In addition, TGs with 49, 51 and 53 carbon atoms were reduced in male patients infected with genotype 3a in comparison to genotype 1a. TGs with 56 carbon atoms were lower in genotype 3a-infected males than in genotype 1b-infected males. TGs did not differ in females by genotype. Genotype 3-related changes disappeared at the end of therapy with DAAs. Overall, the levels of serum TGs did not change during DAA therapy in either sex. Consequently, the serum TGs of males with liver cirrhosis were lower than those of males without cirrhosis at the end of therapy. Such a difference was not apparent in females. Conclusions The decline in TGs observed only in male patients with liver cirrhosis and male patients infected with genotype 3 illustrates sex-specific changes in lipid metabolism in chronic HCV. Abstract
Dyslipidemia is considered a risk factor for type 2 diabetes (T2D), yet studies with statins and candidate genes suggest that circulating lipids may protect against T2D development. Apoe-null (Apoe-/-) mouse strains develop spontaneous dyslipidemia and exhibit a wide variation in susceptibility to diet-induced T2D. We thus used Apoe-/- mice to elucidate phenotypic and genetic relationships of circulating lipids with T2D. A male F2 cohort was generated from an intercross between LP/J and BALB/cJ Apoe-/- mice and fed 12 weeks of a Western diet. Fasting, non-fasting plasma glucose, and lipid levels were measured and genotyping was performed using miniMUGA arrays. We uncovered a major QTL near 60 Mb on chromosome 15, Nhdlq18, which affected non-HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels under both fasting and non-fasting states. This QTL was coincident with Bglu20, a QTL that modulates fasting and non-fasting glucose levels. The plasma levels of non-HDL cholesterol and triglycerides were closely correlated with the plasma glucose levels in F2 mice. Bglu20 disappeared after adjustment for non-HDL cholesterol or triglycerides. These results demonstrate a causative role for dyslipidemia in T2D development in mice.

Abstract
The use of meal challenge tests to assess postprandial responses in carbohydrate and fat metabolism is well established in clinical nutrition research. However, challenge meal compositions and protocols remain a variable. Here, we validated a mixed macronutrient tolerance test (MMTT), containing 56-g palm oil, 59-g sucrose, and 26-g egg white protein for the parallel determination of insulin sensitivity and postprandial triglyceridemia in clinically healthy subjects. The MMTT was administered in two study populations. In one, women with overweight/obese BMIs (n = 43) involved in an 8-week dietary intervention were administered oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) and MMTTs within 2 days of each other after 0, 2, and 8 weeks of the dietary intervention. In the other, 340 men and women between 18 and 64 years of age, with BMI from 18–40 kg/m2, completed the MMTT as part of a broad nutritional phenotyping effort. Postprandial blood collected at 0, 0.5, 3, and 6 h was used to measure glucose, insulin, and clinical lipid panels. The MMTT postprandial insulin-dependent glucose disposal was evaluated by using the Matsuda Index algorithm and the 0- and 3 h blood insulin and glucose measures. The resulting MMTT insulin sensitivity index (ISIMMTT) was strongly correlated (r = 0.77, p < 0.001) with the OGTT-dependent 2 h composite Matsuda index (ISIComposite), being related by the following equation: Log (ISIComposite) = [0.8751 x Log(ISIMMTT)] –0.2115. An area under the triglyceride excursion curve >11.15 mg/mL h–1 calculated from the 0, 3, and 6 h blood draws established mild-to-moderate triglyceridemia in agreement with ∼20% greater prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia than fasting indications. We also demonstrated that the product of the 0 to 3 h and 3 to 6 h triglyceride rate of change as a function of the triglyceride incremental area under the curve optimally stratified subjects by postprandial response patterns. Notably, ∼2% of the population showed minimal triglyceride appearance by 6 h, while ∼25% had increasing triglycerides through 6 h. Ultimately, using three blood draws, the MMTT allowed for the simultaneous determination of insulin sensitivity and postprandial triglyceridemia in individuals without clinically diagnosed disease.Clinical Trial Registration[https://clinicaltrials.gov/], identifier [NCT02298725; NCT02367287].

Abstract
Approximately 25–50% of the population worldwide exhibits serum triglycerides (TG) (≥150 mg/dL) which are associated with an increased level of highly atherogenic remnant-like particles, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and pancreatitis risk. High serum TG levels could be related to cardiovascular disease, which is the most prevalent cause of mortality in Western countries. The etiology of hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is multifactorial and can be classified as primary and secondary causes. Among the primary causes are genetic disorders. On the other hand, secondary causes of HTG comprise lifestyle factors, medical conditions, and drugs. Among lifestyle changes, adequate diets and nutrition are the initial steps to treat and prevent serum lipid alterations. Dietary intervention for HTG is recommended in order to modify the amount of macronutrients. Macronutrient distribution changes such as fat or protein, low-carbohydrate diets, and caloric restriction seem to be effective strategies in reducing TG levels. Particularly, the Mediterranean diet is the dietary pattern with the most consistent evidence for efficacy in HTG while the use of omega-3 supplements consumption is the dietary component with the highest number of randomized clinical trials (RCT) carried out with effective results on reducing TG. The aim of this review was to provide a better comprehension between human nutrition and lipid metabolism.

Abstract
Post-meal triglycerides are an independent cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor, but the ideal high-fat meal formulation has yet to be standardized and is one challenge prohibiting widespread clinical adoption of postprandial triglyceride assessment. Two general approaches often used are giving individuals a high-fat meal scaled to body weight or a standardized high-fat meal containing a set fat bolus. A recent expert panel statement has endorsed the latter, specifying 75 g of fat as an appropriate fat dosage. Despite this recommendation, no study to date has tested whether there is a difference in postprandial triglycerides or if risk classification is affected based on these different approaches. We recruited 16 generally healthy individuals with roughly equal distribution among body mass index (BMI)class (n = 5–6/per BMI category) and sex (n = 2–3 M/F) within each BMI class. Each participant underwent two abbreviated fat tolerance tests separated by ~1 week: one with a scaled to body weight high-fat meal (9 kcal/kg; 70% fat) and a standardized meal containing 75 g of fat (70% fat). Fasting, 4 h, and absolute change in triglycerides across the entire sample and within each BMI category were similar regardless of high-fat meal. Only one participant with obesity had discordant postprandial responses between the fat tolerance tests (i.e., different CVD risk classification). These findings suggest that, within a certain range of fat intake, generally healthy individuals will have a similar postprandial triglyceride response. Considering the greater convenience of utilizing standardized high-fat meals, our data suggest that a standardized high-fat meal may be acceptable for large-scale studies and clinical implementation.
