Abstract
OPINION STATEMENT Around 90% of breast tumours are diagnosed in the early stage, with approximately 70% being hormone receptor-positive. The cornerstone of adjuvant therapy for early-stage hormone receptor-positive breast cancer is endocrine therapy, tailored according to disease stage, biological characteristics of the tumour, patient's comorbidities, preferences and age. In premenopausal patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, ovarian function suppression is a key component of the adjuvant endocrine treatment in combination with an aromatase inhibitor or tamoxifen. Moreover, it can be used during chemotherapy as a standard strategy for ovarian function preservation in all breast cancer subtypes. In the metastatic setting, ovarian function suppression should be used in all premenopausal patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer to achieve a post-menopausal status. Despite its efficacy, ovarian function suppression may lead to several side effects that can have a major negative impact on patients' quality of life if not properly managed (e.g. hot flashes, depression, cognitive impairment, osteoporosis, sexual dysfunction, weight gain). A deep knowledge of the side effects of ovarian function suppression is necessary for clinicians. A correct counselling in this regard and proactive management should be considered a fundamental part of survivorship care to improve treatment adherence and patients' quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pembrolizumab-based regimens are conditioned by the expression of PD-L1, but durable response rate is limited by innate and acquired resistance mechanisms. Here, we focus on osteopontin (OPN), an upfront biomarker of senescence, which closely associated with natural history of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS Seventy-nine patients eligible to pembrolizumab regimens-alone or in combination with chemotherapy-as first-line treatment of advanced NSCLC were enrolled. Predictive value of OPN toward iRECIST progression disease (PD) was set as first outcome. Secondary ones included performance status (ECOG) at baseline, early (first and best) responses, and overall survival (OS). RESULTS High Serum OPN characterized patients with worse ECOG-PS (p = 0.015) at baseline and subjects experienced PD/death at first (OR 1.17 [1.02 to 1.35]; p = 0.030) and best responses (0.04 [0.00 to 0.81]; p = 0.035). OPN was associated with time-to-progression (B -2.74 [-4.46 to -1.01]) and time-to death (-0.13 [-0.20 to -0.05]). Cox regression models unveil a predictive value for iRECIST-PD (HR 1.01 [1.00 to 1.02]; p = -0.005), RECIST-PD (HR 1.01 [1.00 to 1.02]; p = 0.017), and OS (HR 1.02 [1.01 to 1.03]; p = 0.001). These models were internally validated through bootstrap resampling and characterized by relevant discrimination ability at ROC curve analyses. CONCLUSION Baseline levels of serum OPN is closely associated with performance status and short/long term outcomes in patients with advanced NSCLC, which are candidate to pembrolizumab-based regimens. As upfront biomarker of senescence, OPN may pave the way for future studies focusing on senescence patterns in NSCLC.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis (ECCL) is a rare congenital syndrome with complex skin, eye, and central nervous system (CNS) symptoms. Diagnosis and treatment are challenging due to its rarity and diverse manifestations. It often involves issues like porencephalic cysts, cortical atrophy, and low-grade gliomas in the CNS, resulting in developmental delays. The spinal cord is frequently affected, leading to problems like medullary compression and radiculopathy, causing back pain and sensory/motor deficits. Surgical interventions are reserved for symptomatic cases to address hydrocephalus or alleviate spinal lipomas. This article reviews a case series to assess surgical risks and neurological outcomes. CASE SERIES We present a case series ECCL, focusing on the diffuse lipomatosis of the spinal cord and the intricate surgical procedures involved. A multi-stage surgical approach was adopted, with continuous neuromonitoring employed to safeguard motor pathways. We discuss clinical characteristics, imaging studies, and indications for neurosurgical interventions. DISCUSSION ECCL is a complex syndrome. Diagnosis is challenging and includes clinical evaluation, neuroimaging, and genetic testing. Treatment targets specific symptoms, often requiring surgery for issues like lipomas or cerebral cysts. Surgery involves laminectomies, spinal fusion, and motor pathway monitoring. Thorough follow-up is crucial due to potential CNS complications like low-grade gliomas. Hydrocephalus occurs in some cases, with endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) preferred over ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement. CONCLUSION Neurosurgery for ECCL is for symptomatic cases. ETV is preferred for hydrocephalus, while the treatment for lipoma is based on the presence of symptoms; the follow-up should assess growth and prevent deformities.

Abstract
Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) is becoming a disruptive trend in healthcare, allowing for transparency and interpretability of autonomous decision-making. In this study, we present an innovative application of a rule-based classification model to identify the main causes of chronic cough-related quality of life (QoL) impairment in a cohort of asthmatic patients. The proposed approach first involves the design of a suitable symptoms questionnaire and the subsequent analyses via XAI. Specifically, feature ranking, derived from statistically validated decision rules, helped in automatically identifying the main factors influencing an impaired QoL: pharynx/larynx and upper airways when asthma is under control, and asthma itself and digestive trait when asthma is not controlled. Moreover, the obtained if-then rules identified specific thresholds on the symptoms associated to the impaired QoL. These results, by finding priorities among symptoms, may prove helpful in supporting physicians in the choice of the most adequate diagnostic/therapeutic plan.

Abstract
Many dietary supplements claim the ability to enhance sports performance and to improve the fitness of the consumers. Occasionally, along with legal ingredients, illicit compounds may be added without being labelled, leading to unintended doping. Hence, the aim of this study was to develop an analytical method to determine a set of 12 polar (logDpH=7 from -2.0 to +0.3) compounds including diuretics, stimulants, β2-agonists, methylxanthines, and sweeteners. Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography was chosen as separation strategy, coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. The instrumental method was optimized using a two-step design of experiments (DoE). Firstly, a Plackett-Burman (PB) DoE was performed to identify the more influencing variables affecting peak areas and chromatographic resolution among temperature, water percentage in the mobile phase, and flow rate, as well as type and concentration of buffers. Secondly, a D-optimal DoE was set, considering only the most significant variables from the PB-DoE results, achieving a deeper understanding of the retention mechanism. Sample processing by salt-assisted liquid-liquid extraction was studied through DoE as well, and the whole method showed recoveries in the range 40-107% and procedural precision ≤11% for all analytes. Finally, it was applied to real samples, in which the four methylxanthines and two artificial sweeteners were detected and quantified in the range of 0.02-192 mg g-1. These values were compared to the quantities declared on the DS labels, when possible. Furthermore, a sequence of MS/MS scans allowed detection of a signal in one of the samples, structurally similar to the β2-agonist clenbuterol.

Abstract
Highly anthropized areas as ports represent complex scenarios that require accurate monitoring plans aimed to address the environmental status. In this context, the activities of the EU Interreg Project "GEstione dei REflui per il MIglioramento delle Acque portuali (GEREMIA)" were focused on comparing sites differently affected by human presence, as the Port of Genoa and the natural area of the S'Ena Arrubia fishpond: a panel of analyses was carried out on Mugilidae fish sampled in these two areas, aimed to address trace metal accumulation in the liver, gills, and muscle, as well as cytochrome P450 (CYP450) induction in liver and biliary polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) metabolites, and histopathological alterations in the liver and gills. Chemical analyses in the liver, gills, and muscle of specimens collected in the port area showed an overall higher degree of trace metal contamination compared to the natural fishpond, and similar results were obtained in terms of CYP450 induction and biliary PAH metabolites, suggesting a higher exposure to organic compounds. In addition, histopathological analyses revealed a significant alteration and then a loss of functionality of liver and gill tissue in individuals from the port. Overall, this study describes the complex environmental pollution scenario in the Port of Genoa, confirming the importance of using multidisciplinary approaches and different types of analyses to address both the presence and the effects of contaminants in marine environments.

Abstract
In the last 50 years, the number of companies producing automated devices for surgical operations has grown extensively. The population started to be more confident about the technology capabilities. The first patents related to surgical robotics are expiring and this knowledge is becoming a common base for the development of future surgical robotics. The review describes some of the most popular companies manufacturing surgical robots. The list of the company does not pretend to be exhaustive but wishes to give an overview of the sector. Due to space constraints, only a limited selction of companies is reported. Most of the companies described are born in America or Europe. Advantages and limitations of each product firm are described. A special focus is given to the end effectors; their shape and dexterity are crucial for the positive outcome of the surgical operations. New robots are developed every year, and existing robots are allowed to perform a wider range of procedures. Robotic technologies improve the abilities of surgeons in the domains of urology, gynecology, neurology, spine surgery, orthopedic reconstruction (knee, shoulder), hair restoration, oral surgery, thoracic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopy.

Abstract
PURPOSE The use of arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) as a target intervention to manage elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) and its effect on clinical outcomes remain unclear. We aimed to describe targets for PaCO2 in acute brain injured (ABI) patients and assess the occurrence of abnormal PaCO2 values during the first week in the intensive care unit (ICU). The secondary aim was to assess the association of PaCO2 with in-hospital mortality. METHODS We carried out a secondary analysis of a multicenter prospective observational study involving adult invasively ventilated patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), or ischemic stroke (IS). PaCO2 was collected on day 1, 3, and 7 from ICU admission. Normocapnia was defined as PaCO2 > 35 and to 45 mmHg; mild hypocapnia as 32-35 mmHg; severe hypocapnia as 26-31 mmHg, forced hypocapnia as < 26 mmHg, and hypercapnia as > 45 mmHg. RESULTS 1476 patients (65.9% male, mean age 52 ± 18 years) were included. On ICU admission, 804 (54.5%) patients were normocapnic (incidence 1.37 episodes per person/day during ICU stay), and 125 (8.5%) and 334 (22.6%) were mild or severe hypocapnic (0.52 and 0.25 episodes/day). Forced hypocapnia and hypercapnia were used in 40 (2.7%) and 173 (11.7%) patients. PaCO2 had a U-shape relationship with in-hospital mortality with only severe hypocapnia and hypercapnia being associated with increased probability of in-hospital mortality (omnibus p value = 0.0009). Important differences were observed across different subgroups of ABI patients. CONCLUSIONS Normocapnia and mild hypocapnia are common in ABI patients and do not affect patients' outcome. Extreme derangements of PaCO2 values were significantly associated with increased in-hospital mortality.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Juvenile Sjögren's disease (jSjD) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by exocrine gland involvement and systemic manifestations, including small vessel vasculitis and Raynaud's phenomenon (RP). We aimed to investigate the microvascular status in jSjD patients by nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) and the potential correlations with clinical and serological features. METHODS Clinical data from thirteen consecutive jSjD patients (11 females and 2 males), with a mean age of 16 ± 4 years, diagnosed before 16 years of age (mean age at diagnosis 12 ± 3) according to the 2016 American College of Rheumatology/EULAR criteria for adult SjD, were collected including age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs). Clinical, laboratory, and instrumental data were collected, together with NVC examination. Non-specific and specific NVC parameters were investigated, such as capillary density, capillary dilations, giant capillaries, microhaemorrhages and abnormal shapes. Associations between NVC findings and clinical/serological features were explored and analysed using parametrical and non-parametrical tests. RESULTS Capillary density reduction correlated significantly with articular involvement (arthralgias) (p = 0.024). Microhaemorrhages correlated with lower C3 levels (p = 0.034). No specific NVC pattern for jSjD was identified, whereas abnormal capillary shapes were significantly higher in jSjD patients than HCs (p = 0.005). NVC abnormalities were not associated with SjD-specific instrumental tests (biopsy, imaging, Schirmer's test). RP was present in 8% of jSjD patients. CONCLUSIONS The reduction of capillary density, as well as microhaemorrhages at NVC analysis, are significantly associated with some clinical aspects like articular involvement and serum biomarkers (C3 reduction). The NVC is suggested as safe and further analysis in jSjD patients.

Abstract
The engineered Hand Test System (HTS) glove has shown high reliability in assessing the baseline functional status of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) hand. Starting from this achievement, the aim of the present observational prospective study was to assess the functionality of the single fingers of rheumatoid hand at follow-up. Eighty RA patients performed HTS glove tests at baseline and among these fifty-six patients were re-tested after 7 months. The HTS glove parameters [Touch Duration (TD), Movement Rate (MR), Inter Tapping Interval (ITI)] were correlated with disease activity and disability clinimetric indexes [Disease Activity Score 28 joint count-C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP), Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI), Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI), Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ-DI), grip strength, visual analogue scale of pain (VAS), patient global assessment (PGA)], and with laboratory values. HTS glove parameters (TD, ITI, and MR) showed statistically significant correlations with clinimetric and clinical indexes at both time points (p < 0.05). During follow-up, a statistically significant variation of all HTS glove parameters for the fingers that have performed both the worst or best HTS test at baseline was detected (p < 0.05), while the mean HTS glove parameter values by considering all fingers did not show a statistically significant variation over time, as well as the traditional clinimetric indexes. Besides the objective role in assessing the RA hand function by integrating the traditional clinimetric indexes, the HTS glove seems a useful tool for evaluating worst or best finger function during time by measuring the movement speed.

Abstract
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a disease of the elderly, often presenting comorbidities like osteoporosis and requiring, in a relevant proportion of cases, treatment with bisphosphonates (BPs). This class of drugs was shown in preclinical investigations to also possess anticancer properties. We started an in vitro study of the effects of BPs on CLL B cells activated by microenvironment-mimicking stimuli and observed that, depending on drug concentration, hormetic effects were induced on the leukemic cells. Higher doses induced cytotoxicity whereas at lower concentrations, more likely occurring in vivo, the drugs generated a protective effect from spontaneous and chemotherapy-induced apoptosis, and augmented CLL B cell activation/proliferation. This CLL-activation effect promoted by the BPs was associated with markers of poor CLL prognosis and required the presence of bystander stromal cells. Functional experiments suggested that this phenomenon involves the release of soluble factors and is increased by cellular contact between stroma and CLL B cells. Since CLL patients often present comorbidities such as osteoporosis and considering the diverse outcomes in both CLL disease progression and CLL response to treatment among patients, illustrating this phenomenon holds potential significance in driving additional investigations.

Abstract
In clinical practice, ultrasound standard planes (SPs) selection is experience-dependent and it suffers from inter-observer and intra-observer variability. Automatic recognition of SPs can help improve the quality of examinations and make the evaluations more objective. In this paper, we propose a method for the automatic identification of SPs, to be installed onboard a portable ultrasound system with limited computational power. The deep Learning methodology we design is based on the concept of Knowledge Distillation, transferring knowledge from a large and well-performing teacher to a smaller student architecture. To this purpose, we evaluate a set of different potential teachers and students, as well as alternative knowledge distillation techniques, to balance a trade-off between performances and architectural complexity. We report a thorough analysis of fetal ultrasound data, focusing on a benchmark dataset, to the best of our knowledge the only one available to date.

Abstract
PURPOSE Diabetic striatopathy (DS) is a rare complication of poorly controlled diabetes mellitus (DM), characterized by hyperglycemia associated with chorea/ballism and characteristic reversible basal ganglia abnormalities on computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We propose a narrative review of the literature on this topic, currently unknown to most, and about which physicians should be aware. We intend to summarize, critically review, and take to mean the evidence on this disorder, describing its typical features. METHODS We searched Pubmed for English-language sources using the following keywords in the title and the abstract: diabetic striatopathy, hyperglycemic non-ketotic hemichorea/hemiballism, chorea/hemichorea associated with non-ketotic hyperglycemia, diabetic hemiballism/hemichorea, chorea, hyperglycemia, and basal ganglia syndrome. We collected scientific articles, including case reports, reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses from the years 1975 to 2023. We eliminated duplicate, non-English language or non-related articles. RESULTS Older Asian women are more frequently affected. Suddenly or insidiously hemichorea/hemiballism, mainly in the limbs, and high blood glucose with elevated HbA1c in the absence of ketone bodies have been observed. Furthermore, CT striatal hyperdensity and T1-weighted MRI hyperintensity have been observed. DS is often a treatable disease following proper hydration and insulin administration. Histopathological findings are variable, and no comprehensive hypothesis explains the atypical cases reported. CONCLUSION DS is a rare neurological manifestation of DM. If adequately treated, although treatment guidelines are lacking, the prognosis is good and life-threatening complications may occur occasionally. During chorea/hemiballism, we recommend blood glucose and HbA1c evaluation. Further studies are needed to understand the pathogenesis.

Abstract
Intestinal malrotation (IM) results from an altered or incomplete rotation of the fetal midgut around the superior mesenteric artery axis. The abnormal anatomy of IM is associated with risk of acute midgut volvulus which can lead to catastrophic clinical consequences. The upper gastro-intestinal series (UGI) is addressed as the gold standard diagnosis procedure, but a variable failure degree has been described in literature. The aim of the study was to analyze the UGI exam and describe which features are the most reproducible and reliable in diagnosing IM. Medical records of patients surgically treated for suspected IM between 2007 and 2020 at a single pediatric tertiary care center were retrospectively reviewed. UGI inter-observer agreement and diagnostic accuracy were statistically calculated. Images obtained with antero-posterior (AP) projections were the most significant in terms of IM diagnosis. Duodenal-Jejunal Junction (DJJ) abnormal position resulted to be the most reliable parameter (Se = 0.88; Sp = 0.54) as well as the most readable, with an inter-reader agreement of 83% (k = 0.70, CI 0.49-0.90). The First Jejunal Loops (FJL), caecum altered position and duodenal dilatation could be considered additional data. Lateral projections demonstrated an overall low sensitivity (Se = 0.80) and specificity (Sp = 0.33) with a PPV of 0.85 and a NPV of 0.25. UGI on the sole AP projections ensures a good diagnostic accuracy. The position of the third portion of the duodenum on lateral views showed an overall low reliability, therefore it was not helpful but rather deceiving in diagnosing IM.

Abstract
To investigate the correlations between finger microvascular morphology and function in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and the status of ocular microcirculation, as detected by nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC), laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA), and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). The enrollment included 32 SSc patients, classified according to the 2013 ACR/EULAR criteria, and 27 sex- and age-matched healthy controls. The participants underwent comprehensive rheumatological and ophthalmological examinations, as well as NVC, LASCA, and OCTA analysis on the same day at a single center from March to October 2022. SSc patients receiving intravenous prostanoids cycles were assessed at least 1 month after infusion. Statistical analysis was conducted using Stata® 15.1. Significant direct correlations were observed between the mean capillary number (at NVC) and the mean perfusion of fingers (at LASCA) with the retinal and choroidal perfusion (at OCTA) (all p < 0.05). In addition, a significantly reduced retinal and choroidal perfusion was detected in SSc patients vs controls (all p < 0.05). Interestingly, diffuse cutaneous SSc (dcSSc) patients exhibited a lower choroidal perfusion (p = 0.03) but an increased choroidal thickness (CT) than limited cutaneous SSc patients (p < 0.001). CT was increased also in patients with positive Scl70 antibodies and with a history of digital ulcers directly correlating with disease duration (r = 0.67, p = 0.001). Finally, the combination of LASCA and OCTA parameters showed a significant discrimination capacity between SSc patients and controls, with an area under the curve of 0.80 [95% CI (0.74, 0.87)]. Peripheral microvascular damage is correlated with impaired ocular microcirculation in SSc. The increased choroidal thickness observed in dcSSc may be related to local sub-endothelial extracellular matrix deposition. The combined analysis of choroidal and fingertip perfusion offers preliminary insights that may complement traditional diagnostic methods for SSc.

Abstract
Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease with inflammatory characteristics, having a condition of chronic malabsorption, affecting approximately 1% of the population at any age. In recent years, a concrete correlation between eating disorders and CD has emerged. Hypothalamus plays a central role in determining eating behaviour, regulating appetite and, consequently, food intake. One hundred and ten sera from celiac patients (40 active and 70 following a gluten-free diet) were tested for the presence of autoantibodies against primate hypothalamic periventricular neurons by immunofluorescence and by a home-made ELISA assay. In addition, ghrelin was measured by ELISA. As control, 45 blood serums from healthy age matched were analysed. Among active CD, all patients resulted positive for anti-hypothalamus autoantibodies and sera showed significantly higher levels of ghrelin. All of the free-gluten CD were negative for anti-hypothalamus autoantibodies and had low levels of ghrelin, as well as healthy controls. Of interest, anti-hypothalamic autoantibodies directly correlate with anti-tTG amounts and with mucosal damage. In addition, competition assays with recombinant tTG showed a drastically reduction of anti-hypothalamic serum reactivity. Finally, ghrelin levels are increased in CD patients and correlated with anti-tTG autoantibodies and anti-hypothalamus autoantibodies. This study demonstrates for the first time the presence of anti-hypothalamus antibodies and their correlation with the severity of the CD. It also allows us to hypothesize the role of tTG as a putative autoantigen expressed by hypothalamic neurons.

Abstract
Dietary restriction, such as low glycemic index diet (LGID), have been successfully used to treat drug-resistant epilepsy. However, if such diet could also counteract antiepileptogenesis is still unclear. Here, we investigated whether the administration of LGID during the latent pre-epileptic period, prevents or delays the appearance of the overt epileptic phenotype. To this aim, we used the Synapsin II knockout (SynIIKO) mouse, a model of temporal lobe epilepsy in which seizures manifest 2-3 months after birth, offering a temporal window in which LGID may affect epileptogenesis. Pregnant SynIIKO mice were fed with either LGID or standard diet during gestation and lactation. Both diets were maintained in weaned mice up to 5 months of age. LGID delayed the seizure onset and induced a reduction of seizures severity only in female SynIIKO mice. In parallel with the epileptic phenotype, high-density multielectrode array recordings revealed a reduction of frequency, amplitude, duration, velocity of propagation and spread of interictal events by LGID in the hippocampus of SynIIKO females, but not mutant males, confirming the gender-specific effect. ELISA-based analysis revealed that LGID increased cortico-hippocampal allopregnanolone (ALLO) levels only in females, while it was unable to affect ALLO plasma concentrations in either sex. The results indicate that the gender-specific interference of LGID with the epileptogenic process can be ascribed to a gender-specific increase in cortical ALLO, a neurosteroid known to strengthen GABAergic transmission. The study highlights the possibility of developing a personalized gender-based therapy for temporal lobe epilepsy.

Abstract
Mismatch repair/microsatellite instability (MMR/MSI) status in colorectal cancer (CRC) has become fundamental as a diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive factor. MMR immunohistochemistry (IHC) is considered a simple and reliable approach; however, its effectiveness depends on pre-analytic factors. Aim of this study was to investigate the impact of different fixation times/protocols on MMR protein IHC quality. Left over tissue from surgically resected CRC samples (cold ischemia time < 30 min) where fixed as follows: standard formalin fixation (24-48 h); hypo-fixation (<20 h); hyper-fixation (>90 h); cold (4°C) fixation (24-48 h); standard fixation for small sample size (0.5×0.5 cm). Samples for each group were collected from 30 resected CRC and the following parameters were evaluated on 600 immunohistochemical stains: intensity of expression; patchiness of staining; presence of central artefact. Forty-six immunoreactions were inadequate (score 0 intensity), the majority regarding MLH1 or PMS2 in the hypo-fixation group (47.8%), followed by the hyper-fixation group (28.1%); cold formalin fixation showed the least inadequate cases. Patchiness and central artefact were more frequent in hypo-fixation and standard fixation group compared to the others. MLH1 (closely followed by PMS2) performed worse with regard to immunostaining intensity (p=0.0002) in the standard and in the hypo-fixation group (p< 0.00001). Using a small sample size improved patchiness/central artefacts. This is the first study specifically created to evaluate the impact of fixation on MMR protein IHC, showing that both formalin hypo- and hyper-fixation can cause problems; 24-h formalin fixation as well as cold (4°C) formalin fixation are recommended for successful IHC MMR evaluation.

Abstract
Adenomyosis, characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue within the uterine wall, poses significant challenges in treatment. The literature primarily focuses on managing abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and dysmenorrhea, the main symptoms of adenomyosis. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and tranexamic acid provide limited support for mild symptoms or symptom re-exacerbation during hormone therapy. The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is commonly employed in adenomyosis management, showing promise in symptom improvement and reducing uterine size, despite the lack of standardized guidelines. Dienogest (DNG) also exhibits potential benefits, but limited evidence hinders treatment recommendations. Danazol, while effective, is limited by androgenic side effects. Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) may be less effective than progestins but can be considered for contraception in young patients. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists effectively manage symptoms but induce menopausal symptoms with prolonged use. GnRH antagonists are a recent option requiring further investigation. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) show promise in alleviating AUB and pelvic pain, but their safety necessitates exploration and limited use within trials for refractory patients. This review highlights the complexity of diagnosing adenomyosis, its coexistence with endometriosis and uterine leiomyomas, and its impact on fertility and quality of life, complicating treatment decisions. It emphasizes the need for research on guidelines for medical management, fertility outcomes, long-term effects of therapies, and exploration of new investigational targets. Future research should optimize therapeutic strategies, expand our understanding of adenomyosis and its management, and establish evidence-based guidelines to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to report mid-term clinical and radiographic results after hip arthroplasty revision in Vancouver type B2 femoral periprosthetic fractures (PPFx). Specifical focus of the paper is as follows: (1) the description of a standardized and reproducible surgical technique, (2) functional outcomes presentation and (3) type and number of complications and implants' survival rate analysis. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed all patients treated for hip revision with non-modular tapered fluted titanium stem in patients with Vancouver type B2 femur PPFx at a single institution. At least 18 months' follow-up period was required. Harris Hip Scores and SF-12 were obtained, and radiographical follow-up was performed. Complications were reported and analyzed. RESULTS The authors included 114 patients (114 hips) with a mean follow-up of 62.8 ± 30.6 months. All patients were treated with Wagner SL revision hip stem (Zimmer-Biomet), metal cerclage wires ± trochanteric plate. The mean HHS and SF-12 score at the last follow-up evaluation were respectively 81.3 ± 9.7 and 32.5 ± 7.6. Seventeen (14.9%) complications occurred. We observed five cases of dislocations, two of periprosthetic joint infections and six cases of new PPFx. The stem-related revision rate for any cause at the final FU was 1.7%, due to PJI. No patients underwent stem revision surgery for aseptic loosening. Fracture healed in all the included patients with a union-rate of 100%. The re-operation rate for any cause was 9.6%, with an implant survival rate for overall failure of 96.5%. CONCLUSION The presented standard and reproducible surgical technique obtains optimal clinical and radiological results with limited complication rate at mid-term follow up. Preoperative planning as well as careful intraoperative surgical technique is of a paramount importance.

Abstract
The growth of AuCu nanoparticles obtained by depositing Cu atoms on starting seeds of pure Au and on mixed AuCu seeds is studied by molecular dynamics simulations. Depending on the shape of the seed, its composition and the growth temperature, different growth pathways are observed, in which several types of structural transformations take place. The final growth structures comprise Au@Cu core@shell arrangements as well as Janus-like structures with patchy surfaces. The results of the growth simulations are rationalized in terms of the activation of different diffusion processes, both on the surface and inside the growing clusters. These diffusion processes regulate structural transitions between different motifs and the occurrence of dewetting phenomena. The simulation results show that depositon of Cu atoms on pure Au or mixed AuCu seed can be an effective tool for producing clusters with uncommon surface atom arrangements of potential interest for catalysis.

Abstract
PURPOSE In the last edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system, differentiated thyroid cancers (DTC) showing microscopic extrathyroidal extension (mETE) are considered comparable to intrathyroidal cancers for their clinical behavior and prognosis. The aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of this updated assessment of T, when applied to the postoperative recurrence risk stratification, according to the American Thyroid Association Guidelines (ATA-RR). METHODS One-hundred DTC patients who underwent total thyroidectomy were retrospectively evaluated. The downstaging of mETE was introduced in the definition of T, and the updated classification defined as modified ATA-RR (ATAm-RR). For each patient, post-surgical basal and stimulated thyroglobulin (Tg) levels, neck ultrasound (US) and post-ablative 131-I whole body scan (WBS) reports were considered. The predictive performance (PP) of disease recurrence was calculated both for each single parameter, as well as for all of them. RESULTS According to ATAm-RR classification, 19/100 patients (19%) were downstaged. ATA-RR proved a significant PP for disease recurrence (DR) (sensitivity 75.0%, specificity 63.0%, p = 0.023). However, ATAm-RR performed slightly better due to an increased specificity (sensitivity 75.0%, specificity 83.7%, p < 0.001). For both classifications, the PP was optimal when all the above-mentioned predictive parameters were considered. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that the new assessment of T considering mETE resulted in a downgrading of ATA-RR class in a significant number of patients. This provides a better PP for disease recurrence, and the best PP was obtained when considering the whole predictive variables together.

Abstract
Changes in statistical practices and reporting have been documented by Giofrè et al. PLOS ONE 12(4), e0175583 (2017), who investigated ten statistical and open practices in two high-ranking journals (Psychological Science [PS] and Journal of Experimental Psychology-General [JEPG]): null hypothesis significance testing; confidence or credible intervals; meta-analysis of the results of multiple experiments; confidence interval interpretation; effect size interpretation; sample size determination; data exclusion; data availability; materials availability; and preregistered design and analysis plan. The investigation was based on an analysis of all papers published in these journals between 2013 and 2015. The aim of the present study was to follow up changes in both PS and JEPG in subsequent years, from 2016 to 2020, adding code availability as a further open practice. We found improvement in most practices, with some exceptions (i.e., confidence interval interpretation and meta-analysis). Despite these positive changes, our results indicate a need for further improvements in statistical practices and adoption of open practices.

Abstract
Obesity epidemic reached the dimensions of a real global health crisis with more than one billion people worldwide living with obesity. Multiple obesity-related mechanisms cause structural, functional, humoral, and hemodynamic alterations with cardiovascular (CV) deleterious effects. A correct assessment of the cardiovascular risk in people with obesity is critical for reducing mortality and preserving quality of life. The correct identification of the obesity status remains difficult as recent evidence suggest that different phenotypes of obesity exist, each one associated with different degrees of CV risk. Diagnosis of obesity cannot depend only on anthropometric parameters but should include a precise assessment of the metabolic status. Recently, the World Heart Federation and World Obesity Federation provided an action plan for management of obesity-related CV risk and mortality, stressing for the instauration of comprehensive structured programs encompassing multidisciplinary teams. In this review we aim at providing an updated summary regarding the different obesity phenotypes, their specific effects on CV risk and differences in clinical management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to assess the factors associated with the success and failure rate of the external cephalic version (ECV) in breech fetuses. Secondary outcomes were fetal presentation in labor and mode of delivery. METHODS This cross-sectional study examined the live birth certificates from 2003 through 2020 from US states and territories that implemented the 2003 revision. A total of 149,671 singleton pregnancies with information about ECV success or failure were included. The outcome was ECV success/failure, while the exposures were possible factors associated with the outcome. RESULTS The successful ECV procedures were 96,137 (64.23%). Among the successful ECV procedures, the prevalence of spontaneous vaginal delivery was 71.63%. Among the failed ECV procedures, 24.74% had a cephalic presentation at delivery, but 63.11% of these pregnancies were delivered by cesarean section. Nulliparity, female sex, low fetal weight centile, high pre-pregnancy BMI, high BMI at delivery, and high maternal weight gain during pregnancy were associated with an increased ECV failure (p < 0.001). African American, American Indian and Alaska Native race categories were significant protective factors against ECV failure (p < 0.001). Maternal age had a U-shape risk profile, whereas younger maternal age (< 25 years) and old maternal age (> 40 years) were significant protective factors against ECV failure (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS A high prevalence of successful ECV procedures and subsequent spontaneous vaginal delivery were found. The present results found nulliparity, maternal race, maternal age, female fetal sex, low fetal weight, and maternal anthropometric features correlated to ECV results. These findings can potentially improve the knowledge about the factors involved in ECV, allowing more informed counseling to the women undergoing this procedure.

Abstract
The broadly utilized biocide triclosan (TCS) is continuously discharged in water compartments worldwide, where it is detected at concentrations of ng-µg/L. Given its lipophilicity and bioaccumulation, TCS is considered potentially harmful to human and environmental health and also as a potential endocrine disruptor (ED) in different species. In aquatic organisms, TCS can induce a variety of effects: however, little information is available on its possible impact on invertebrate development. Early larval stages of the marine bivalve Mytilus galloprovincialis have been shown to be sensitive to environmental concentrations of a number of emerging contaminants, including EDs. In this work, the effects of TCS were first evaluated in the 48 h larval assay in a wide concentration range (0.001-1,000 μg/L). TCS significantly affected normal development of D-veligers (LOEC = 0.1 μg/L; EC50 = 236.1 μg/L). At selected concentrations, the mechanism of action of TCS was investigated. TCS modulated transcription of different genes involved in shell mineralization, endocrine signaling, ceramide metabolism, and biotransformation, depending on larval stage (24 and 48 h post-fertilization-hpf) and concentration (1 and 10 μg/L). At 48 hpf and 10 μg/L TCS, calcein staining revealed alterations in CaCO3 deposition, and polarized light microscopy showed the absence of shell birefringence due to the mineralized phase. Observations by scanning electron microscopy highlighted a variety of defects in shell formation from concentrations as low as 0.1 μg/L. The results indicate that TCS, at environmental exposure levels, can act as a developmental disruptor in early mussel larvae mainly by interfering with the processes of biomineralization.

Abstract
The aim of our study is to validate a totally automated deep learning (DL)-based segmentation pipeline to screen abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in computed tomography angiography (CTA) scans. We retrospectively evaluated 73 thoraco-abdominal CTAs (48 AAA and 25 control CTA) by means of a DL-based segmentation pipeline built on a 2.5D convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture to segment lumen and thrombus of the aorta. The maximum aortic diameter of the abdominal tract was compared using a threshold value (30 mm). Blinded manual measurements from a radiologist were done in order to create a true comparison. The screening pipeline was tested on 48 patients with aneurysm and 25 without aneurysm. The average diameter manually measured was 51.1 ± 14.4 mm for patients with aneurysms and 21.7 ± 3.6 mm for patients without aneurysms. The pipeline correctly classified 47 AAA out of 48 and 24 control patients out of 25 with 97% accuracy, 98% sensitivity, and 96% specificity. The automated pipeline of aneurysm measurements in the abdominal tract reported a median error with regard to the maximum abdominal diameter measurement of 1.3 mm. Our approach allowed for the maximum diameter of 51.2 ± 14.3 mm in patients with aneurysm and 22.0 ± 4.0 mm in patients without an aneurysm. The DL-based screening for AAA is a feasible and accurate method, calling for further validation using a larger pool of diagnostic images towards its clinical use.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Microfragmented Autologous Fat Tissue (MFAT) treatment for knee osteoarthritis and to investigate whether patients' pre-treatment clinical condition, such as synovitis, correlates with clinical outcomes, to identify potential predicting factors for the success or failure of the treatment. METHODS In this prospective Cohort Study Level II multicentric trial, consecutive patients with a diagnosis of early/mild osteoarthritis and failure of previous conservative measures were enrolled to undergo diagnostic arthroscopy and a single MFAT injection. Patients were assessed with repeated scoring systems at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months after surgery. The demographic features, the arthroscopic findings, the immunophenotype of injected tissue and the histologic examination of synovia of failed patients were analyzed. RESULTS Data from 91 patients showed a significant improvement in Lysholm, WOMAC scores at 1-year follow-up (p < 0.001). A significant decrease in VAS score was observed, while a significant improvement of measured flexion angle was registered at 1 year (p < 0.001). No major complications were reported. Age and synovitis were identified as significant factors influencing the clinical outcome (p < 0.05). Body mass index, previous or concomitant procedures, and specific cartilage defects had no influence. The mean number of injected adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells seem not to correlate with the clinical outcome. CONCLUSION MFAT is effective in reducing pain when used with a single dose injection in early/mild OA of the knee, without major complications. Age over 60 and synovitis may be predictive for persistent pain at one year and should be considered before indications.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To present the randomized controlled trial (RCT) evidence and highlight the areas of uncertainty regarding direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) for cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (CAT). RECENT FINDINGS In the last years, four RCTs have shown that rivaroxaban, edoxaban, and apixaban are at least as effective as low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) for the treatment of both incidental and symptomatic CAT. On the other hand, these drugs increase the risk of major gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with cancer at this site. Another two RCTs have demonstrated that apixaban and rivaroxaban also prevent CAT in subjects at intermediate-to-high risk commencing chemotherapy, albeit at the price of higher likelihood of bleeding. By contrast, data are limited about the use DOAC in individuals with intracranial tumors or concomitant thrombocytopenia. It is also possible that some anticancer agents heighten the effects of DOAC via pharmacokinetic interactions, up to making their effectiveness-safety profile unfavorable. Leveraging the results of the aforementioned RCTS, current guidelines recommend DOAC as the anticoagulants of choice for CAT treatment and, in selected cases, prevention. However, the benefit of DOAC is less defined in specific patient subgroups, in which the choice of DOAC over LMWH should be carefully pondered.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A brain glucose metabolism pattern related to phenoconversion in patients with idiopathic/isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder (iRBDconvRP) was recently identified. However, the validation of the iRBDconvRP in an external, independent group of iRBD patients is needed to verify the reproducibility of such pattern, so to increase its importance in clinical and research settings. The aim of this work was to validate the iRBDconvRP in an independent group of iRBD patients. METHODS Forty iRBD patients (70 ± 5.59 years, 19 females) underwent brain [18F]FDG-PET in Seoul National University. Thirteen patients phenoconverted at follow-up (7 Parkinson disease, 5 Dementia with Lewy bodies, 1 Multiple system atrophy; follow-up time 35 ± 20.56 months) and 27 patients were still free from parkinsonism/dementia after 62 ± 29.49 months from baseline. We applied the previously identified iRBDconvRP to validate its phenoconversion prediction power. RESULTS The iRBDconvRP significantly discriminated converters from non-converters iRBD patients (p = 0.016; Area under the Curve 0.74, Sensitivity 0.69, Specificity 0.78), and it significantly predicted phenoconversion (Hazard ratio 4.26, C.I.95%: 1.18-15.39). CONCLUSIONS The iRBDconvRP confirmed its robustness in predicting phenoconversion in an independent group of iRBD patients, suggesting its potential role as a stratification biomarker for disease-modifying trials.

Abstract
Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune blistering disease that targets the haemidesmosomal proteins, mainly BP180. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been demonstrated to carry tissue-specific autoantigens in the setting of autoimmune diseases and transplant organ rejection; this phenomenon was demonstrated to have pathogenic implications in autoimmune diseases and to correlate with transplant rejection severity. The purpose of this study was to identify the presence of BP targeted autoantigens in blister fluid derived EVs. We isolated, by size exclusion chromatography, EVs derived from blisters of BP-patients and from suction blisters of healthy donors. EV characterization was performed by flow cytometry and nanoparticle tracking analysis. Western blot analysis was used to investigate the presence of autoantigens. A suspension enriched in EVs was efficiently obtained from blister fluid from patients and healthy donors. EV-enriched fractions were enriched in particles with a size distribution characterizing small-EVs (main peak was present at 94.5 nm). BP180 was found, by western blot analysis, in EVs derived from blister fluid of 3 out 6 BP patients and in none of EVs isolated from suction blister fluid of healthy donors. BP230 and Dsg1 were not detectable in EVs of any of the samples. No specific clinical characteristics seemed to correlate to the presence of BP180 in EVs. The discovery of BP180 in EVs derived from blister fluid might help understanding BP pathogenesis.

Abstract
Unmet needs challenge clinical management of sepsis especially concerning patient profiling, enhancing recovery, and long-term sequelae. Here, we preliminarily focused on sclerostin (SOST) as a candidate biomarker to encompass such a broad range of clinical needs related to sepsis. Seventy-three septic patients were enrolled at internal medicine wards between January 2017 and December 2019 in this pilot study. Clinical examination and blood sample analyses were collected at enrollment and after 7 and 14 days. SOST levels were assessed on serum by ELISA. Thirty-day mortality was set as primary outcome. In-hospital and long-term mortality (2.5 years of median follow-up) were assessed as secondary outcomes. Patients were frail, elderly, and heterogeneous in terms of comorbidity burden. SOST levels were associated with age, cardiovascular comorbidities, and time to early death (30 days). When regression models were built, SOST displayed a high predictive value toward 30-day mortality (OR 13.459 with 95% CI 1.226-148.017) with ever better performance than validated scoring scales for critical ill patients. Such a predictive value of SOST was further confirmed for in-hospital (HR 10.089 with 95% CI 1.375-74.013) and long-term mortality (HR 5.061 with 95% CI 1.379-18.570). SOST levels generally decreased over 7 to 14 days after enrollment (p for trend < 0.001). The degree of this variation further predicted long-term mortality (HR for Δ SOST T0-day 14: 1.006 with 95% CI 1.001-1.011). Our results suggest a role for SOST in both short- and long-time prediction of worse outcome in septic elderly admitted to internal medicine wards.

Abstract
Awareness is growing that, besides several neurotoxic effects, cholinomimetic drugs able to interfere the cholinergic neurotransmitter system may exert a teratogen effect in developing embryos of vertebrate and invertebrate organisms. Cholinomimetic substances exert their toxic activity on organisms as they inhibit the functionality of the cholinergic system by completely or partially replacing the ACh molecule both at the level of the AChE active site and at the level of acetylcholine receptors. In this work, we focused the attention on the effects of muscarinic antagonist (atropine) and agonist (carbachol) drugs during the early development and ontogenesis of chick embryos. An unsteady-state mathematical model of the drug release and fate was developed, to synchronize exposure to a gradient of drug concentrations with the different developmental events. Since concentration measures in time and space cannot be taken without damaging the embryo itself, the diffusion model was the only way to establish at each time-step the exact concentration of drug at the different points of the embryo body (considered two-dimensional up to the 50 h stage). This concentration depends on the distance and position of the embryo with respect to the releasing source. The exposure to carbachol generally enhanced dimensions and stages of the embryos, while atropine mainly caused delay in development and small size of the embryos. Both the drugs were able to cause developmental anomalies, depending on the moment of development, in a time- and dose-dependent way, regardless the expression of genes driving each event. 1. Early chick embryos were exposed to muscarinic drugs in a spatial-temporal context. 2. Effects were stage-(time) dependent, according to distance and position of the source. 3. Atropine inhibited growth, mainly interfering with the cephalic process formation and heart differentiation; carbachol increased growth reducing differentiation. 4. Interferences may be exerted by alteration of calcium responses to naturally occurring morphogen-driven mechanisms.

Abstract
Contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CNTNAP2) gene encodes for CASPR2, a presynaptic type 1 transmembrane protein, involved in cell-cell adhesion and synaptic interactions. Biallelic CNTNAP2 loss has been associated with "Pitt-Hopkins-like syndrome-1" (MIM#610042), while the pathogenic role of heterozygous variants remains controversial. We report 22 novel patients harboring mono- (n = 2) and bi-allelic (n = 20) CNTNAP2 variants and carried out a literature review to characterize the genotype-phenotype correlation. Patients (M:F 14:8) were aged between 3 and 19 years and affected by global developmental delay (GDD) (n = 21), moderate to profound intellectual disability (n = 17) and epilepsy (n = 21). Seizures mainly started in the first two years of life (median 22.5 months). Antiseizure medications were successful in controlling the seizures in about two-thirds of the patients. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or other neuropsychiatric comorbidities were present in nine patients (40.9%). Nonspecific midline brain anomalies were noted in most patients while focal signal abnormalities in the temporal lobes were noted in three subjects. Genotype-phenotype correlation was performed by also including 50 previously published patients (15 mono- and 35 bi-allelic variants). Overall, GDD (p < 0.0001), epilepsy (p < 0.0001), hyporeflexia (p = 0.012), ASD (p = 0.009), language impairment (p = 0.020) and severe cognitive impairment (p = 0.031) were significantly associated with the presence of biallelic versus monoallelic variants. We have defined the main features associated with biallelic CNTNAP2 variants, as severe cognitive impairment, epilepsy and behavioral abnormalities. We propose CASPR2-deficiency neurodevelopmental disorder as an exclusively recessive disease while the contribution of heterozygous variants is less likely to follow an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern.

Abstract
Guided by the Tripartite Influence Model and Objectification Theory, we examined whether parents' attention to their children's appearance was related to higher body shame in girls and boys. In Study 1 (N = 195) and 2 (N = 163), we investigated 7-12-year-old children's metaperceptions about parents' attention to their appearance and its association with children's body shame. In Study 3, we examined the link between parents' self-reported attention to their children's appearance and children's body shame among parent-child triads (N = 70). Results demonstrated that both children's metaperceptions and fathers' self-reported attention to children's appearance were associated with body shame in children. Furthermore, when mothers' and fathers' attitudes toward their children were analyzed simultaneously, only fathers' attention to their children's appearance was associated with greater body shame in girls and boys. Notably, no gender differences emerged, suggesting that parents' attention to their children's appearance was not differentially related to body shame in girls and boys. These results remained significant when controlling for other sources of influence, namely peer and media influence, both of which were found to have a strong association with body shame in children. Theoretical and practical implications of our findings are discussed.

Abstract
Trastuzumab (Tz), an antibody targeting ERBB2, has significantly improved the prognosis for breast cancer (BCa) patients with overexpression of the ERBB2 receptor. However, Tz resistance poses a challenge to patient outcomes. Numerous mechanisms have been suggested to contribute to Tz resistance, and this study aimed to uncover shared mechanisms in in vitro models of acquired BCa Tz resistance. Three widely used ERBB2+ BCa cell lines, adapted to grow in Tz, were examined. Despite investigating potential changes in phenotype, proliferation, and ERBB2 membrane expression in these Tz-resistant (Tz-R) cell lines compared to wild-type (wt) cells, no common alterations were discovered. Instead, high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis revealed a shared set of differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in Tz-R versus wt cells. Bioinformatic analysis demonstrated that all three Tz-R cell models exhibited modulation of proteins associated with lipid metabolism, organophosphate biosynthesis, and macromolecule methylation. Ultrastructural examination corroborated the presence of altered lipid droplets in resistant cells. These findings strongly support the notion that intricate metabolic adaptations, including lipid metabolism, protein phosphorylation, and potentially chromatin remodeling, may contribute to Tz resistance. The detection of 10 common DEPs across all three Tz-resistant cell lines offers promising avenues for future therapeutic interventions, providing potential targets to overcome Tz resistance and potentially improve patient outcomes in ERBB2+ breast cancer.

Abstract
Iron (Fe) is the most important trace element in the ocean, as it is required by phytoplankton for photosynthesis and nitrate assimilation. Iron speciation is important to better understand the biogeochemical cycle and availability of this micronutrient, in particular in the Southern Ocean. Dissolved Fe (dFe) concentration and speciation were determined in 24 coastal subsurface seawater samples collected in the western Ross sea (Antarctica) during the austral summer 2017 as part of the CELEBeR (CDW Effects on glacial mElting and on Bulk of Fe in the Western Ross sea) project. ICP-DRC-MS was used for dFe determination, whereas CLE-AdSV was used to obtain the concentration of complexed and free dFe, of the ligands, and the values of the stability constants of the complexes. Dissolved Fe values ranged from 0.4 to 2.5 nM and conditional stability constant (logK'Fe'L) from 13.0 to 15.0, highlighting the presence of Fe-binding organic complexes of different stabilities. Principal component analysis (PCA) allowed us to point out that Terra Nova Bay and the neighboring area of Aviator and Mariner Glaciers were different in terms of chemical, physical, and biological parameters. A qualitative investigation on the nature of the organic ligands was carried out by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS. Results showed that siderophores represented a heterogeneous class of organic ligands pool.

Abstract
Species distribution models are the most widely used tool to predict species distributions for species conservation and assessment of climate change impact. However, they usually do not consider intraspecific ecological variation exhibited by many species. Overlooking the potential differentiation among groups of populations may lead to misplacing any conservation actions. This issue may be particularly relevant in species in which few populations with potential local adaptation occur, as in species with disjunct populations. Here, we used ecological niche modeling to analyze how the projections of current and future climatically suitable areas of 12 plant species can be affected using the whole taxa occurrences compared to occurrences from geographically disjunct populations. Niche analyses suggest that usually the disjunct group of populations selects the climatic conditions as similar as possible to the other according to climate availability. Integrating intraspecific variability only slightly increases models' ability to predict species occurrences. However, it results in different predictions of the magnitude of range change. In some species, integrating or not integrating intraspecific variability may lead to opposite trend in projected range change. Our results suggest that integrating intraspecific variability does not strongly improve overall models' accuracy, but it can result in considerably different conclusions about future range change. Consequently, accounting for intraspecific differentiation may enable the detection of potential local adaptations to new climate and so to design targeted conservation strategies.

Abstract
Experience of bullying may be a significant risk factor for non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). This study had three aims: to systematically investigate the association between bullying and NSSI, analyze the possible mechanisms underlying the two phenomena, and evaluate any differences between bullying victimization and bullying perpetration with respect to NSSI. A systematic search about the association between bullying victimization and perpetration and NSSI was conducted using specific databases (PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct). The following keywords were used in all database searches: "bullying" AND "NSSI" OR "peer victimization" and NSSI. The searches in PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct revealed a total of 88 articles about bullying or peer victimization and NSSI. However, only 29 met our inclusion criteria and were used for the present review. Overall, all studies examined victimization; four studies also evaluated the effects of perpetration and one included bully-victims. According to the main findings, both being a victim of bullying and perpetrating bullying may increase the risk of adverse psychological outcomes in terms of NSSI and suicidality in the short and the long run. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review to systematically evaluate the relation between bullying victimization/perpetration and NSSI. The main results support a positive association. Future research should evaluate the possible role of specific mediators/moderators of the association between experience of bullying and NSSI.

Abstract
PURPOSE Our aim was to determine the main risk factors related to the occurrence of permanent alopecia in childhood medulloblastoma (MB) survivors. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical features of all consecutive MB survivors treated at our institute. We divided the patients into 3 groups depending on the craniospinal irradiation (CSI) dose received and defined permanent alopecia first in terms of the skin region affected (whole scalp and nape region), then on the basis of the toxicity degree (G). Any relationship between permanent alopecia and other characteristics was investigated by a univariate and multivariate analysis and Odds ratio (OR) with confidence interval (CI) was reported. RESULTS We included 41 patients with a mean10-year follow-up. High dose CSI resulted as an independent factor leading to permanent hair loss in both groups: alopecia of the whole scalp (G1 p-value 0.030, G2 p-value 0.003) and of the nape region (G1 p-value 0.038, G2 p-value 0.006). The posterior cranial fossa (PCF) boost volume and dose were not significant factors at multivariate analysis neither in permanent hair loss of the whole scalp nor only in the nuchal region. CONCLUSION In pediatric patients with MB, the development of permanent alopecia seems to depend only on the CSI dose ≥ 36 Gy. Acute damage to the hair follicle is dose dependent, but in terms of late side effects, constant and homogeneous daily irradiation of a large volume may have a stronger effect than a higher but focal dose of radiotherapy.

Purpose
To describe reoperations in the operating room for complications that occurred within the first 90 days after gel stent implantation or trabeculectomy at a single institution over 5 years.
Methods
In this retrospective chart review, patients who have undergone gel stent implantation with mitomycin C (MMC) or trabeculectomy with MMC were enrolled. Postoperative complications that required reoperations within the first 90 days were evaluated.
Results
A total of 510 surgeries were performed on 392 patients over a 57-month period by 2 glaucoma surgeons. Of these, 284 were gel stent implantation, and 226 were trabeculectomy. Combined phacoemulsification was performed in 52/284 (18.3%) in the gel stent group and in 26/226 (11.5%) of eyes in the trabeculectomy group (p = 0.03). Reoperations took place in 13/510 (2.5%) eyes, including 4/284 (1.4%) in the gel stent group, 9/226 (4.0%) in the trabeculectomy group (p = 0.07). In the gel stent group, indications for reoperation were bleb failure (2), suprachoroidal hemorrhage (1), bullous keratopathy (1). In the trabeculectomy group, indications for reoperation were bleb failure (3), overfiltration (2), persistent wound leak (2), aqueous misdirection (2).
Conclusions
The rates of reoperation for early postoperative complications after gel stent or trabeculectomy was low and comparable with previous studies. A slightly higher number of reoperations within 90 days was observed in the trabeculectomy group than the gel stent group despite the more significant number of combined procedures in the latter group. Bleb failure was the most common indications for reoperation in both groups. Excessive outflow was a cause of reoperation mostly in the trabeculectomy group.

Abstract
The spread of COVID-19 has led to increasingly stringent containment measures. After the first period of lockdown, there has been an easing of measures worldwide. However, this choice has helped bring about a second wave to be faced by many states. The present research was conducting during the period in which it was necessary for the population to find strategies for living with COVID-19. The proposed action research envisaged the use of Photovoice and, due to social distancing, was carried out online. A total of 250 young adults were involved with the aim of bringing out individual and community solutions for effective coexistence with COVID-19. The data, collected through a triangulation process, were analysed on the basis of grounded theory and the support of NVivo 12. The results highlight how online Photovoice is an effective tool for implementing individual and community empowerment and for identifying solutions to live with COVID-19.

Abstract
Across three experiments (N = 302), we explored whether people cognitively elaborate humanoid robots as human- or object-like. In doing so, we relied on the inversion paradigm, which is an experimental procedure extensively used by cognitive research to investigate the elaboration of social (vs. non-social) stimuli. Overall, mixed-model analyses revealed that full-bodies of humanoid robots were subjected to the inversion effect (body-inversion effect) and, thus, followed a configural processing similar to that activated for human beings. Such a pattern of finding emerged regardless of the similarity of the considered humanoid robots to human beings. That is, it occurred when considering bodies of humanoid robots with medium (Experiment 1), high and low (Experiment 2) levels of human likeness. Instead, Experiment 3 revealed that only faces of humanoid robots with high (vs. low) levels of human likeness were subjected to the inversion effects and, thus, cognitively anthropomorphized. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings for robotic and psychological research are discussed.

Abstract
The Spectrometer/Telescope for Imaging X-rays (STIX) is one of six remote sensing instruments on-board Solar Orbiter. The telescope applies an indirect imaging technique that uses the measurement of 30 visibilities, i.e., angular Fourier components of the solar flare X-ray source. Hence, the imaging problem for STIX consists of the Fourier inversion of the data measured by the instrument. In this work, we show that the visibility amplitude and phase calibration of 24 out of 30 STIX sub-collimators has reached a satisfactory level for scientific data exploitation and that a set of imaging methods is able to provide the first hard X-ray images of solar flares from Solar Orbiter. Four visibility-based image reconstruction methods and one count-based are applied to calibrated STIX observations of six events with GOES class between C4 and M4 that occurred in May 2021. The resulting reconstructions are compared to those provided by an optimization algorithm used for fitting the amplitudes of STIX visibilities. We show that the five imaging methods produce results morphologically consistent with the ones provided by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on board the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO/AIA) in UV wavelengths. The χ 2 values and the parameters of the reconstructed sources are comparable between methods, thus confirming their robustness.

Abstract
Settled in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the present short-term longitudinal study aims to investigate the relation between emotion dysregulation, mentalizing (both certainty and uncertainty about mental states), and psychological symptoms in a sample of 83 emerging adults (Mage = 22.18 years, SD = 4.36) over a continuous period started with COVID-19 spreads. Results display significant positive associations between psychological symptoms and both emotion dysregulation and uncertainty about mental states, while an inverse association with certainty about mental states was found. A moderation model was also performed, showing a significant negative association between emotion dysregulation and psychological symptoms at low levels of uncertainty about mental states. Conversely, a marginally significant positive association occurs at high levels of uncertainty about mental states. In other words, the presence of individual impairments in perceiving one's own/others mind may increase the negative consequences of emotion dysregulation on reported psychological symptoms. To sum up, our findings highlight the importance of considering mentalizing as a possible key factor for the promotion of emerging adults' mental health also in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
PURPOSE To date, there is no consensus on how to semi-quantitatively assess brain amyloid PET. Some approaches use late acquisition alone (e.g., ELBA, based on radiomic features), others integrate the early scan (e.g., TDr, which targets the area of maximum perfusion) and structural imaging (e.g., WMR, that compares kinetic behaviour of white and grey matter, or SI based on the kinetic characteristics of the grey matter alone). In this study SUVr, ELBA, TDr, WMR, and SI were compared. The latter - the most complete one - provided the reference measure for amyloid burden allowing to assess the efficacy and feasibility in clinical setting of the other approaches. METHODS We used data from 85 patients (aged 44-87) who underwent dual time-point PET/MRI acquisitions. The correlations with SI were computed and the methods compared with the visual assessment. Assuming SUVr, ELBA, TDr, and WMR to be independent measures, we linearly combined them to obtain more robust indices. Finally, we investigated possible associations between each quantifier and age in amyloid-negative patients. RESULTS Each quantifier exhibited excellent agreement with visual assessment and strong correlation with SI (average AUC = 0.99, ρ = 0.91). Exceptions to this were observed for subcortical regions with ELBA and WMR (ρELBA = 0.44, ρWMR = 0.70). The linear combinations showed better performances than the individual methods. Significant associations were observed between TDr, WMR, SI, and age in amyloid-negative patients (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Among the other methods, TDr came closest to the reference with less implementation complexity. Moreover, this study suggests that combining independent approaches gives better results than the individual procedure, so efforts should focus on multi-classifier systems for amyloid PET. Finally, the ability of techniques integrating blood perfusion to depict age-related variations in amyloid load in amyloid-negative subjects demonstrates the goodness of the estimate.

Abstract
Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is the most common hereditary neuropathy with an estimated prevalence of 1 person affected on 2500. Frequent symptoms include distal weakness and muscle wasting, sensory loss, reduced deep tendon reflexes, and skeletal deformities, such as hammer toes and pes cavus. CMT is a progressive disease and patients' needs change over their lifetime. In particular, ambulation aids are increasingly needed to maintain ambulation and reduce the risk of falls. We performed a retrospective analysis of medical records from 149 patients with confirmed CMT to evaluate patients ambulation needs related to the severity of their CMT as measured by the CMT Neuropathy Score (CMTNS) and Ambulation Index (AI). Most patients required some form of orthotics (86.6%). The CMTNS and AI scores both differed significantly between patients with no orthotics compared to those who wore insoles/inserts. The CMTNS and AI also differed significantly between patients wearing insoles and those with ankle foot orthotics (AFOs). CMTNS and the AI were valid predictors of the type and choice of the orthotics. Both the CMTNS and AI can be effective tools to aid in the correct choice of orthotics in patients affected by CMT.

Abstract
In this paper we focus on some new normativist positions and compare them with traditional ones. In so doing, we claim that if normative judgments are involved in determining whether a condition is a disease only in the sense identified by new normativisms, then disease is normative only in a weak sense, which must be distinguished from the strong sense advocated by traditional normativisms. Specifically, we argue that weak and strong normativity are different to the point that one 'normativist' label ceases to be appropriate for the whole range of positions. If values and norms are not explicit components of the concept of disease, but only intervene in other explanatory roles, then the concept of disease is no more value-laden than many other scientific concepts, or even any other scientific concept. We call the newly identified position "value-conscious naturalism" about disease, and point to some of its theoretical and practical advantages.

Abstract
Tactile sensing endows the robots to perceive certain physical properties of the object in contact. Robots with tactile perception can classify textures by touching. Interestingly, textures of fine micro-geometry beyond the nominal resolution of the tactile sensors can also be identified through exploratory robotic movements like sliding. To study the problem of fine texture classification, we design a robotic sliding experiment using a finger-shaped multi-channel capacitive tactile sensor. A feature extraction process is presented to encode the acquired tactile signals (in the form of time series) into a low dimensional (≤7D) feature vector. The feature vector captures the frequency signature of a fabric texture such that fabrics can be classified directly. The experiment includes multiple combinations of sliding parameters, i.e., speed and pressure, to investigate the correlation between sliding parameters and the generated feature space. Results show that changing the contact pressure can greatly affect the significance of the extracted feature vectors. Instead, variation of sliding speed shows no apparent effects. In summary, this paper presents a study of texture classification on fabrics by training a simple k-NN classifier, using only one modality and one type of exploratory motion (sliding). The classification accuracy can reach up to 96%. The analysis of the feature space also implies a potential parametric representation of textures for tactile perception, which could be used for the adaption of motion to reach better classification performance.
