"This article seeks to bring the ¿urban' back into immigration research. Each immigrant receiving area has its own particular group of newcomers, and the economic and political structures of the immigrant receiving areas are also distinctive. Those structures are not all determining, as immigrant trajectories are shaped by the interaction between distinctive urban institutions and the specific characteristics of the relevant ethnic groups. [Individual migratory behavior in France]

Trends in internal migration in France are analyzed over the course of an individual's lifetime using data from a 1981 INED survey entitled Triple Biographie. "The behaviour of individuals in terms of distance and degree of mobility is influenced by the distinctive characteristics of territory and consequently related to their regional origins. Urbanization and internal migration

This is a survey of the U.N. Population Division's contributions to the study of urbanization and internal migration, related research, and publications. In order to review these contributions, the relevant U.N. publications are classified under five broad topics: "estimates and projections of urban, rural and city populations, including problems of data comparability and methods to measure internal migration; monitoring of trends in urbanization; estimates and analyses of migration as a component of urban and metropolitan growth; studies of demographic and socio-economic aspects of urbanization, and studies of demographic and socio-economic aspects of internal migration."

[Thirty years of urban dynamics in Romania: between homogeneous and specific regional development]

[The population situation in the Arequipa region]

Recent European immigration to the Chicago metropolitan area

Patterns of European migration to the Chicago metropolitan area are examined to determine the urban spatial distribution of various ethnic groups. Data are from petitions of 1,185 male immigrants 18 years old and over from Greece, Italy, Poland, and Yugoslavia who applied for U.S. citizenship between June 2, 1975, and June 1, 1976. It is found that the majority of those studied chose to live within the city of Chicago. It is suggested that "residential locations of relatives, availability of low-cost housing, religious affiliations, proximity and access to employment opportunities, and avoidance of Black and Hispanic neighborhoods...were involved in the decision of where to reside."
