Abstract
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic lung disease resulting in irreversible scarring within the lungs. However, the lack of biomarkers that enable real-time assessment of disease activity remains a challenge in providing efficient clinical decision-making and optimal patient care in IPF. Fibronectin (FN) is highly expressed in fibroblastic foci of the IPF lung where active extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition occurs. Functional upstream domain (FUD) tightly binds the N-terminal 70-kilodalton domain of FN that is crucial for FN assembly. In this study, we first demonstrate the capacity of PEGylated FUD (PEG-FUD) to target FN deposition in human IPF tissue ex vivo. We subsequently radiolabeled PEG-FUD with 64Cu and monitored its spatiotemporal biodistribution via μPET/CT imaging in mice using the bleomycin-induced model of pulmonary injury and fibrosis. We demonstrated [64Cu]Cu-PEG-FUD uptake 3 and 11 days following bleomycin treatment, suggesting that radiolabeled PEG-FUD holds promise as an imaging probe in aiding the assessment of fibrotic lung disease activity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study investigates the association between smoking cessation and hypertension incidence, as well as the association between waist circumference change after smoking cessation and hypertension incidence. STUDY DESIGN This was a nationwide population-based cohort study. METHODS We used the Korean Health Screening Cohort data and included 158,505 participants who had undergone two or more health examinations between 2008 and 2011, with follow-ups throughout 2019. Smoking cessation and waist changes were captured based on difference between first and follow-up screening dates. Hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for hypertension risk were estimated using multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression models. RESULTS There were 31,270 cases of hypertension during a median follow-up of 8.50 years. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, HR for hypertension were 1.01 (95% CI: 0.97-1.05), 0.91 (95% CI: 0.87-0.95), and 0.88 (95% CI: 0.85-0.91) for recent quitters, long-term quitters, and non-smokers, respectively, compared with current smokers. HR for hypertension, compared with current smokers, were 0.89 (95% CI: 0.84-0.94), 0.91 (95% CI: 0.85-0.97), and 0.99 (95% CI: 0.91-1.08) for long-term quitters with no waist gain, long-term quitters with waist gain of 0.1-5.0 cm, and long-term quitters with waist gain of ≥5.0 cm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Long-term smoking cessation was significantly associated with decreased risk of hypertension, and long-term smoking cessation with no waist gain or less than 5.0 cm of waist gain was significantly associated with decreased risk of hypertension. However, more than 5.0 cm of waist gain can attenuate the effect of long-term smoking cessation on lowering the risk of hypertension.

Abstract
A groundbreaking demonstration of the utilization of the metal-organic framework MIL-101(Fe) as an exceptionally perceptive visual label in colorimetric lateral flow assays (LFA) is described. This pioneering approach enables the precise identification of transglutaminase 2 (TGM2), a recognized biomarker for chronic kidney disease (CKD), in urine specimens, which offers a remarkably sensitive naked-eye detection mechanism. The surface of MIL-101(Fe) was modified with oxalyl chloride, adipoyl chloride, and poly(acrylic) acid (PAA); these not only improved the labeling material stability in a complex matrix but also achieved a systematic control in the detection limit of the TGM2 concentration using our LFA platform. The advanced LFA with the MIL-101(Fe)-PAA label can detect TGM2 concentrations down to 0.012, 0.009, and 0.010 nM in Tris-HCl buffer, urine, and desalted urine, respectively, which are approximately 55-fold lower than those for a conventional AuNP-based LFAs. Aside from rapid TGM2 detection (i.e., within 20 min), the performance of the MIL-101(Fe)-PAA-based LFA on reproducibility [coefficients of variation (CV) < 2.9%] and recovery (95.9-103.2%) along with storage stability within 25 days of observation (CV < 6.0%) shows an acceptable parameter range for quantitative analysis. A sophisticated sensing method grounded in machine learning principles was also developed, specifically aimed at precisely deducing the TGM2 concentration by analyzing immunoreaction sites. More importantly, our developed LFA offers potential for clinical measurement of TGM2 concentration in normal human urine and CKD patients' samples.

Abstract
Considering the remarkable catalytic activity (160 times higher) of Se/DMAP for the oxidative carbonylation of alcohols, unveiling the role of DMAP in catalysis is highly required. We investigated DFT calculations, and the proposed intermediates were verified with in situ ATR-FTIR analysis. DFT showed that the formation of [DMAP···HSe]δ-[DMAP(CO)OR]δ+ (IV) via nucleophilic substitution of DMAP at the carbonyl group of DMAP···HSe(CO)OR is the most energetically favorable. DMAP acts as both a nucleophile and a hydrogen bond acceptor, which is responsible for its remarkable activity.

Abstract
Background Obesity is characterized by an imbalance between energy intake and expenditure, leading to the excessive accumulation of triglycerides in adipose tissue. Objective This study investigated the potential of Oxylia to prevent obesity in mice fed with a high-fat diet (HFD). Design C57BL/6J mice were fed with one of the following five diets - AIN93G normal diet (normal control), 60% (HFD; control), HFD containing metformin at 40 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) (Met; positive control), HFD containing Oxylia at 30 mg/kg b.w. (O30), or HFD containing Oxylia at 60 mg/kg b.w. (O60) - for 15 weeks. Results Mice under an HFD supplemented with Oxylia had decreased body weight gain, adipose tissue weight, and adipose tissue mass. In addition, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol, and VLDL/LDL cholesterol levels were lower in the O60 groups than in the HFD-fed control group. Moreover, Oxylia supplementation decreased the expression of adipogenesis-related mRNAs and lipogenesis-related proteins while increasing the expression of lipolysis-related proteins in white adipose tissue and thermogenesis-related proteins in brown adipose tissue. Conclusions These findings suggest that Oxylia has potential as a functional food ingredient for the prevention and treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bisphenol A (BPA) is known as an obesogenic endocrine disruptor. Bisphenol S (BPS) and F (BPF) are substitutes that have recently replaced BPA. OBJECTIVES To investigate the relationships of urinary bisphenols (BPA, BPS and BPF) with adiposity measurements (obesity, BMI z-score, and fat mass), serum adipokine levels (adiponectin and leptin), and adiponectin/leptin ratio (A/L ratio) in 6- and 8-year-old children. METHODS A total of 561 children who participated in the Environment and Development of Children cohort (482 and 516 children visited at age 6 and 8, respectively) at Seoul National University Children's Hospital during 2015-2019 were included. Urinary BPA levels were log-transformed. BPS levels were categorized into three groups (non-detected, lower-half, and higher-half of detected), and BPF levels were classified into two groups (non-detected and detected). RESULTS The urinary BPS higher-half group had a higher BMI z-score (β = 0.160, P= 0.044), higher fat mass (β = 0.104, P< 0.001), lower adiponectin concentration (β =- 0.069, P< 0.001), higher leptin concentration (β = 0.360, P< 0.001), and lower A/L ratio (β =- 0.428, P< 0.001) compared with the non-detected group. The urinary BPF-detected group had a higher fat mass (β = 0.074, P< 0.001), lower adiponectin concentration (β =- 0.069, P< 0.001), higher leptin concentration (β = 0.360, P< 0.001), and lower A/L ratio (β =- 0.428, P< 0.001) compared with the non-detected group. The BPA levels showed no consistent associations with outcomes, except for isolated associations of BPA at age 6 with a higher BMI z-score at age 6 (P= 0.016) and leptin at age 8 (P= 0.021). CONCLUSIONS Increased exposure to BPS and BPF is associated with higher fat mass and leptin concentration, lower serum adiponectin, and lower A/L ratio in children. These findings suggest potential adverse effects of BPA substitutes on adiposity and adipokines. No consistent association of BPA exposure with outcomes could be partly explained by the decreasing BPA levels over time.

Abstract
Four imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) with two cations 1-pentyl-3-butylimidazolium [PBIM]+ and 1-benzyl-3-butylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [BzBIM]+, and two anions tetrafluoroborate (BF4-) and trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf-) were synthesized for NH3 solubility enhancement. The structural, thermal, and electrochemical stabilities, ionic conductivity, and viscosity of the four ILs, namely, [PBIM]BF4, [BzBIM]BF4, [PBIM]OTf, and [BzBIM]OTf, were investigated. Due to the intermolecular interaction of the benzyl group attached to the imidazolium ring, [BzBIM]+-based ILs exhibited higher thermal stability but lower ionic conductivity compared to [PBIM]+-based ILs. Further, the NH3 solubility in all ILs was measured using a custom-made setup at temperatures ranging from 293.15 to 323.15 K and pressures ranging from 1 to 5 bar. The effects of the cation and anion structures of ILs, as well as pressure and temperature, on the NH3 solubility in the ILs were also investigated. [PBIM]BF4 showed the best solubility because of its high free volume and low viscosity. Density functional calculations validated the superior NH3 solubility in [PBIM]BF4, attributable to the minimal reorganization of the [cation]anion complex geometry during the solvation process, yielding a low solvation free energy. The findings of this study suggest that ILs exhibit a high NH3 solubility capacity and cation and anion structures considerably affect the NH3 solubility in ILs.

Abstract
A simultaneous detection method for two cardiac disease protein biomarkers present in serum samples on a single planar gold chip using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is described. The detection of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), which are known as acute myocardial infarction (AMI) biomarkers, with predetermined clinically relevant concentrations was performed using mixed aptamers specific to each protein tethered on a single gold surface. After the binding of NT-proBNP and/or TNF-α to the mixed aptamers, an antibody specific to each target protein was injected to form a surface sandwich complex to improve selectivity. In order to adjust the dynamic ranges in the known clinically relevant concentration significantly different for NT-proBNP (0.13-0.24 nM) and TNF-α (0.5-3 pM), the surface density ratios of the corresponding pair of aptamer and antibody were first systematically determined, which were the 1:1 mixed aptamer chip with 40 nM anti-NT-proBNP and 100 nM anti-TNF-α. This allowed to establish the distinct dynamic ranges of 0.05-0.5 nM for NT-proBNP and 0.1-5 pM for TNF-α in a buffer, along with detection and quantification limits of 0.03 and 0.19 nM for NT-proBNP and 0.06 and 0.21 pM for TNF-α, respectively. The changes in refractive unit (RU) values observed when exposing both proteins at different concentrations alongside the corresponding fixed concentration of antibodies onto the 1:1 mixed aptamer chip were then correlated to the sum of RU values measured when using the injection of individual protein for evaluating each protein concentration. With a complete characterization of the simultaneous quantification of two protein concentrations in the buffer, the mixed aptamer chip was finally employed for direct measurements of NT-proBNP and TNF-α concentrations in undiluted serum samples from healthy controls and AMI patients. The results of simultaneous SPR measurements for the two proteins in the serum samples were further compared to the individual protein concentration results using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Abstract
We studied on the bipolar resistive switching (RS)-dependent capacitance of Ga2O3 memristors, grown using controlled oxygen flow via a radio frequency sputtering process. The Ag/Ga2O3/Pt memristor structure was employed to investigate the capacitance changes associated with RS behavior and oxygen concentration. In the low-resistance state (LRS), capacitance increased by over 60 times compared to the high-resistance state (HRS). Furthermore, in the HRS state, increasing the oxygen flow from 0 to 0.3 sccm resulted in an 80 % decrease in capacitance, while in the LRS state, capacitance increased by 128 %. These results indicate that RS-dependent capacitance in Ga2O3 memristors is influenced by the density of oxygen vacancies. The presence of oxygen vacancies affects charge storage capacity and capacitance, with higher oxygen concentrations leading to reduced capacitance in HRS and increased capacitance in LRS. The results contribute to the understanding of the capacitance behavior in Ga2O3 memristors and highlight the significance of oxygen vacancies in their operation.

Abstract
This article aims to propose practical solutions that coordinate the conflicting interests between the global community and the pharmaceutical industry on the intellectual property (IP) waiver for COVID-19 vaccines and facilitate a more equitable vaccine supply chain in the post-COVID-19 world. We critically conducted a narrative literature review to identify procedural and practical issues in the current vaccine supply chain. The search was conducted across various academic disciplines, including biomedical science, life science, law and social science, using resources such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Westlaw. After screening 731 articles, 55 studies were selected for review. The narrative review revealed several critical barriers that hinder vaccine supply in less-developed countries (LDCs) as follows: (1) WTO Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) waiver requests may not be granted due to its stringent consensus rule; (2) the current compulsory license system may not work due to the complexity of IP rights covering COVID-19 vaccine technologies; (3) only a few LDCs have domestic companies capable of manufacturing vaccines, and (4) political and economic tensions among countries exacerbate existing barriers to vaccine distribution in LDCs. Based on these findings, we proposed a comprehensive compulsory license system, which combines TRIPS's compulsory license system with the third-party beneficiary mechanism under Common Law. This integrated approach offers a balanced solution that ensures fair compensation for vaccine developers while facilitating broader vaccine access.

Abstract
We demonstrated the effects of substituents in fluorescein on the photoredox catalytic performance under visible light. For the systematic investigation, the phenyl ring of fluorescein was substituted with six different functional groups (i.e., amine, amide, isothiocyanate, aminomethyl, bromo, or nitro group) at the 5- or 6-position. The fluorescein derivatives were carefully characterized through photophysical and electrochemical analyses. The substituent effects were estimated by comparing the photopolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) and N-vinylpyrrolidone (VP) in the presence of triethanolamine (TEOA) under aerobic conditions to that of intact fluorescein. As a result, the amine and nitro groups exhibited the lowest performances, presumably due to intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer (PET) promoted by the strong electron push-pull effect. The others, representative moderate or weak deactivators and activators, exhibited inferior performances than intact fluorescein, presumably owing to the more negative ΔGPET values, resulting in a decreased rate of intermolecular PET. These results are crucial for understanding the structure-performance relationship and the development of visible-light photoredox catalysts with improved performance and functionality.

Abstract
Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) is double-stranded DNA virus that belongs to the Orthoherpesviridae family. It causes serious neurological diseases of the central nervous system, such as encephalitis. The current U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs for preventing HSV-1 infection include acyclovir (ACV) and valacyclovir; however, their long-term use causes severe side effects and often results in the emergence of drug-resistant strains. Therefore, it is important to discover new antiviral agents that are safe and effective against HSV-1 infection. Korean chestnut honey (KCH) has various pharmacological activities, such as antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammation effects; however, antiviral effects against HSV-1 have not yet been reported. Therefore, we determined the antiviral activity and mechanism of action of KCH after HSV-1 infection on the cellular level. KCH inhibited the HSV-1 infection of host cells through binding and virucidal steps. KCH decreased the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and calcium (Ca2+) following HSV-1 infection and suppressed the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-кB) activity. Furthermore, we found that KCH inhibited the expression of the nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome during HSV-1 infection. Taken together, the antiviral effects of KCH occur through multiple targets, including the inhibition of viral replication and the ROS-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. Our findings suggest that KCH has potential for the treatment of HSV-1 infection and related diseases.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a rapid worldwide increase in the utilization of delivery services. This study delves into the experiences of delivery workers as one of the activley developed industries during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea and sheds light on the effects of the pandemic on their working conditions. Through in-depth interviews with 10 Korean delivery workers, data analysis employed the hermeneutic phenomenology research method developed by Van Manen. The findings indicate a substantial rise in income levels and a positive societal perception of delivery labor post-COVID-19. The pandemic also attracted many new workers to the industry due to low entry barriers and work flexibility. However, challenges persisted as delivery workers grappled with an uncertain legal status and sometimes jeopardized their safety to boost earnings in shorter time frames. The pivotal role played by delivery workers in enhancing communal quality of life and connectivity during the pandemic cannot be overlooked. As we step into a post-COVID-19 era, comprehensive efforts are needed to enhance the working environment for delivery workers globally. Notably, clarifying the relationship between delivery workers and companies within the novel digital labor landscape is essential, alongside establishing institutional frameworks to safeguard workers' basic rights, including health and safety provisions.

Abstract
SUMMARY An 85-year-old lady with a history of chronic constipation presented with gangrenous small bowel protruding from the anus through a hole in a prolapsed rectum. At surgery, a resection of 125 cm of gangrenous small bowel was performed in the perineum prior to laparotomy, where rectal repair was followed by the creation of a sigmoid loop colostomy and double-barrel ileostomy. This avoided an intrabdominal anastomosis which was felt likely to complicate due to the lady's intraoperative haemodynamic instability requiring inotropic support. This tailored management of a trans-anal small bowel evisceration through a rectal prolapse resulted in recovery and a patient who was content with her stomas and preferred to live with them rather than have continuity restored.

Abstract
Influenza is an acute respiratory disorder caused by the influenza virus and is associated with prolonged hospitalization and high mortality rates in older individuals and chronically ill patients. Vaccination is the most effective preventive strategy for ameliorating seasonal influenza. However, the vaccine is not fully effective in cases of antigenic mismatch with the viral strains circulating in the community. The emergence of resistance to antiviral drugs aggravates the situation. Therefore, developing new vaccines and antiviral drugs is essential. Castanea crenata honey (CH) is an extensively cultivated food worldwide and has been used as a nutritional supplement or herbal medicine. However, the potential anti-influenza properties of CH remain unexplored. In this study, the in vitro and in vivo antiviral effects of CH were assessed. CH significantly prevented influenza virus infection in mouse Raw264.7 macrophages. CH pretreatment inhibited the expression of the viral proteins M2, PA, and PB1 and enhanced the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and type-I interferon (IFN)-related proteins in vitro. CH increased the expression of RIG-1, mitochondrial antiviral signaling (MAVS) protein, and IFN-inducible transmembrane protein, which interferes with virus replication. CH reduced body weight loss by 20.9%, increased survival by 60%, and decreased viral replication and inflammatory response in the lungs of influenza A virus-infected mice. Therefore, CH stimulates an antiviral response in murine macrophages and mice by preventing viral infection through the RIG-1-mediated MAVS pathway. Further investigation is warranted to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in the protective effects of CH on influenza virus infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is a widely explored therapeutic target in solid tumors. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of trastuzumab-pkrb, a biosimilar of trastuzumab, in combination with paclitaxel, in HER2-positive recurrent or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC). PATIENTS AND METHODS We enrolled 27 patients; they were administered a loading dose of 8 mg/kg trastuzumab-pkrb on day 1, followed by 6 mg/kg and 175 mg/m2 paclitaxel on day 1 every 3 weeks, intravenously. All patients received six cycles of the combination treatment and continued to receive trastuzumab-pkrb maintenance until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, or for up to 2 years. HER2 positivity (based on immunohistochemistry analysis) was determined according to the 2013 American Society of Clinical Oncology /College of American Pathologists HER2 testing guidelines. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR); the secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and safety. RESULTS Twenty-six patients were evaluated via primary endpoint analysis. The ORR was 48.1% (1 complete and 12 partial responses) and the duration of response was 6.9 months [95% confidence interval (CI) 4.4-9.3 months]. With a median follow-up of 10.5 months, the median PFS and OS were 8.4 months (95% CI 6.2-8.8 months) and 13.5 months (95% CI 9.8 months-not reached), respectively. The most common treatment-related adverse event (TRAE) of any grade was peripheral neuropathy (88.9%). The most common grade 3/4 TRAEs were neutropenia (25.9%), thrombocytopenia (7.4%), and anemia (7.4%). CONCLUSIONS Trastuzumab-pkrb plus paclitaxel demonstrates promising efficacy with manageable toxicity profiles in patients with HER2-positive recurrent or metastatic UC.

Abstract
Tissue fibrosis is characterized by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules. Fibronectin (FN) is a glycoprotein found in the blood and tissues, a key player in the assembly of ECM through interaction with cellular and extracellular components. Functional Upstream Domain (FUD), a peptide derived from an adhesin protein of bacteria, has a high binding affinity for the N-terminal 70-kDa domain of FN that plays a crucial role in FN polymerization. In this regard, FUD peptide has been characterized as a potent inhibitor of FN matrix assembly, reducing excessive ECM accumulation. Furthermore, PEGylated FUD was developed to prevent rapid elimination of FUD and enhance its systemic exposure in vivo. Herein, we summarize the development of FUD peptide as a potential anti-fibrotic agent and its application in experimental fibrotic diseases. In addition, we discuss how modification of the FUD peptide via PEGylation impacts pharmacokinetic profiles of the FUD peptide and can potentially contribute to anti-fibrosis therapy.

Abstract
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are monoclonal antibodies that induce the anti-tumor effects of T cells by targeting co-inhibitory immune checkpoints. The development of ICIs has revolutionized the clinical practice of oncology, leading to significant improvements in outcomes; therefore, ICIs are now standard care for various types of solid cancers. Immune-related adverse events, the unique toxicity profiles of ICIs, usually develop 4-12 weeks after initiation of ICI treatment; however, some cases can occur >3 months after cessation of ICI treatment. To date, there have been limited reports about delayed immune-mediated hepatitis (IMH) and histopathologic findings. Herein, we present a case of delayed IMH that occurred 3 months after the last dose of pembrolizumab, including histopathologic findings of the liver. This case suggests that ongoing surveillance for immune-related adverse events is required, even after cessation of ICI treatment.

Abstract
A wild, tailed phage (TST) was compared with a genetically modified, filamentous phage (FST) for S. Typhimurium (ST) detection. When both phages were introduced into oppositely charged MUA and MUAM sensors, the RU values of TST showed an obvious increase on the MUAM sensor. The sensitivity of TST [54.78 ΔRU/(log PFU/mL)] was greater than that of FST [48.05 ΔRU/(log PFU/mL)]. The binding affinity (KD = 1.75 × 10-13 M) of TST on MUAM sensor was greater than that of FST. Both phages were specific to only ST, and TST exhibited a persistent binding capability at 50 % RH. When each phage-immobilized sensor was employed on chili pepper, the sensitivity [880.80 Hz/(log CFU/mL)] and detection limit (1.31 ± 0.27 log CFU/mL) of TST were significantly greater than those of FST. The orientation of TST on sensor promoted the uniform capture of bacteria and enhanced the reliable performance of a surface-scanning magnetoelastic biosensor.

Abstract
Background: Congenital hypothyroidism is the most common neonatal endocrine disorder, and prompt screening and treatment initiation can prevent developmental delay and growth failure.Current Concepts: The thyroid is the first endocrine gland to develop during embryogenesis. Regulation of thyroid function requires normal development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis, which occurs during the embryonal and neonatal periods. Defects in any of the steps involved in development and differentiation of the gland and regulation of thyroid function lead to permanent congenital hypothyroidism. Neonatal screening test programs to detect congenital hypothyroidism, which are established in 1/3 of the countries worldwide, are cost-effective with high sensitivity and specificity. Advances in molecular testing have expanded knowledge and understanding of thyroid development and function. Prompt initiation of an accurate dose of sodium levothyroxine is recommended. Frequent follow-up, including laboratory test evaluation and dose adjustments are important to maintain thyroid hormone levels within their target ranges.Discussion and Conclusion: A well-established system of newborn screening and treatment of congenital hypothyroidism is useful for management of term infants without other risk factors for this disorder. However, increasing knowledge regarding the role of genetic causes and new criteria for screening and treatment of neonates in special conditions is emerging in clinical practice.

Abstract
A highly sensitive amperometric hydrazine monitoring sensor offering an ultrawide dynamic range of 5 μM to 1 M in alkaline media (e. g., 1 M KOH) was developed via co-electrodepositing iridium-nickel alloy nanoparticles (NPs) functionalized with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Ir-Ni-MWCNTs) on a disposable screen-printed carbon electrode. The synergistic interaction of MWCNTs with Ir-Ni alloy NPs resulted in enlarged active surface area, rapid electron transfer, and alkaline media stability with an onset potential of -0.12 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) toward hydrazine oxidation. A limit of detection for hydrazine was 0.81 μM with guaranteed reproducibility, repeatability, and storage stability alongside a superb selectivity toward ethanolamine, urea, dopamine, NaBH4 , NH4 OH, NaNO2 , and Na2 CO3 . The sensor was finally applied to on-site monitoring of the carbon-free hydrazine concentration at the anode and cathode of a hydrazine fuel cell, providing more insight into the hydrazine oxidation process during cell operation.

Abstract
Impulse oscillometry system (IOS) is a simple, and less invasive method for assessing small to total airway resistance in children. We analyzed the correlation between IOS, spirometry, and plethysmographic parameters performed for the diagnosis of pediatric BO patients. A total of 89 IOS assessments of pediatric BO patients or children without lung disease were included, and the relationship between pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and diagnostic performance was analyzed. R5, R5-20, X5, and AX were statistically significantly worse in the BO group. In general linear correlation analysis, R5% (adjusted β [aβ], -0.59; p < 0.001) and AX % (aβ, -0.9; p < 0.001) showed the strongest correlation with conventional PFT parameters. R5% and AX % also showed the highest correlation with FEF25-75% (aβ, -0.48; p < 0.001 and aβ, -0.83; p < 0.001), and sRaw % (aβ, -0.73; p = 0.003 and aβ, -0.59; p = 0.008, respectively). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that R5 Z-score showed the highest ORs with FEV1 (OR = 3.94, p = 0.006), FEF25-75% (OR = 5.96, p = 0.005), and sRaw % (OR = 4.85, p = 0.022). Receiver operating curve analysis suggested AX % and R5% as the most optimal IOS parameters for BO diagnostic performance with the area under the curve of 0.915 and 0.882, respectively. In conclusion, R5 and AX are the parameters that can independently identify the severity of airway obstruction in pediatric BO patients without conventional lung function tests. IOS is an easy-to-perform, and reliable diagnostic method capable of detecting pathological obliteration of the small airways in children with BO.

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate risk factors and predictors of infectious and noninfectious pulmonary complications (PCs) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in children. We conducted a retrospective analysis of the post-transplantation PCs of 240 patients who underwent allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (allo-PBSCT) between 2009 and 2018. Transplantation-related variables, pretransplantation baseline spirometry, body plethysmography, and CO diffusing capacity were analyzed for association with the development of infectious PCs (IPCs) and noninfectious PCs (NIPCs). Compared with the control group, the PC group had statistically significantly lower overall survival (50.6% versus 77.8%; P < .001), higher disease-related mortality (26.6% versus 54.4%; P < .001), and higher nonrelapse mortality (31.6% versus 5.9%; P < .001). A greater number of patients received pretransplantation conditioning with high-dose busulfan (520 mg/m2; Bu 520) and fludarabine (160 mg/m2; Flu 160) in both the IPC and NIPC groups. In the multivariate Cox hazard regression analysis, Bu 520 significantly increased the risk of NIPCs (hazard ratio [HR], 1.99; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.13 to 3.49; P = .016), and Flu 160 was a predictor of IPCs (HR, 1.99; 95% CI, 1.13 to 3.49; P = .016). The Bu 520 + Flu 160 regimen was associated with a statistically significant increase in the risk of NIPC (HR, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.09 to 3.37; P = .023). In a multivariate analysis using pretransplantation baseline lung function, alveolar volume (VA) grades 3 and 4 and lung function score (LFS) VA categories III and IV were associated with increased risk for both IPCs and NIPCs. Our data identify receipt of the high-dose Bu-Flu conditioning regimen as an independent risk factor for NIPCs after allo-PBSCT. Impaired CO diffusing capacity before transplantation, especially VA reduction, contributes to the risk of post-transplantation pulmonary complications, and pretransplantation risk can be estimated by grading the degree of insufficiency of VA and LFS VA.

Abstract
Nanomedicines are considered next generation therapeutics with advanced therapeutic properties and reduced side effects. Herein, we introduce tailored linear and star-like water-soluble nanosystems as stimuli-sensitive nanomedicines for the treatment of solid tumors or hematological malignancies. The polymer carrier and drug pharmacokinetics were independently evaluated to elucidate the relationship between the nanosystem structure and its distribution in the body. Positron emission tomography and optical imaging demonstrated enhanced tumor accumulation of the polymer carriers in 4T1-bearing mice with increased tumor-to-blood and tumor-to-muscle ratios. Additionally, there was a significant accumulation of doxorubicin bound to various polymer carriers in EL4 tumors, as well as excellent in vivo therapeutic activity in EL4 lymphoma and moderate efficacy in 4T1 breast carcinoma. The linear nanomedicine showed at least comparable pharmacologic properties to the star-like nanomedicines regarding doxorubicin transport. Therefore, if multiple parameters are considered such as its optimized structure and simple and reproducible synthesis, this polymer carrier system is the most promising for further preclinical and clinical investigations.

Abstract
Polyhexamethylene guanidine phosphate (PHMG-p), the main ingredient of humidifier disinfectants, circulates systemically through the lungs; however, its toxicological assessment has been primarily limited to pulmonary disease. Herein, we investigated the possible abnormalities in hematopoietic function 20 weeks after intratracheal instillation of PHMG-p in a rat model. Notable abnormalities were found out in the peripheral blood cell count and bone marrow (BM) biopsy, while RNA sequencing of BM tissue revealed markedly altered gene expression. Furthermore, signaling involved in hematopoietic dysfunction was predicted by analyzing candidate genes through Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) program. Respiratory PHMG-p exposure significantly decreased monocyte and platelet (PLT) counts and total protein, while significantly increasing hemoglobin and hematocrit levels in peripheral blood. Histopathological analysis of the BM revealed a reduced number of megakaryocytes, with no significant differences in spleen and liver weight to body weight. Moreover, PHMG-p exposure significantly activated estrogen receptor signaling and RHOA signaling, and inhibited RHOGDI signaling. In IPA analysis, candidate genes were found to be strongly related to 'hematological system development and function' and 'hematological disease.' Accordingly, our results suggest that PHMG-p could affect hematopoiesis, which participates in monocyte differentiation and PLT production, and may induce hematologic diseases via the respiratory tract.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Insulin resistance develops due to skeletal muscle inflammation and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Stachydrine (STA), extracted from Leonurus heterophyllus, has been shown to suppress proliferation and induce apoptosis in breast cancer cells and exert anti-inflammatory properties in the brain, heart, and liver. However, the roles of STA in insulin signaling in skeletal muscle remain unclear. Herein, we examined the impacts of STA on insulin signaling in skeletal muscle under hyperlipidemic conditions and its related molecular mechanisms. METHODS Various protein expression levels were determined by Western blotting. Levels of mouse serum cytokines were measured by ELISA. RESULTS We found that STA-ameliorated inflammation and ER stress, leading to attenuation of insulin resistance in palmitate-treated C2C12 myocytes. STA dose-dependently enhanced AMPK phosphorylation and HO-1 expression. Administration of STA attenuated not only insulin resistance but also inflammation and ER stress in the skeletal muscle of high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. Additionally, STA-ameliorated glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, as well as serum TNFα and MCP-1, in mice fed a HFD. Small interfering (si) RNA-associated suppression of AMPK or HO-1 expression abolished the effects of STA in C2C12 myocytes. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that STA activates AMPK/HO-1 signaling, resulting in reduced inflammation and ER stress, thereby improving skeletal muscle insulin resistance. Using STA as a natural ingredient, this research successfully treated insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Background
It is unclear whether and how diabetes mellitus may aggravate myocardial fibrosis and remodeling in the pressure-overloaded heart. We investigated the impact of diabetes on the prognosis of aortic stenosis (AS) patients and its underlying mechanisms using comprehensive noninvasive imaging studies and plasma proteomics.
Methods
Severe AS patients undergoing both echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) (n=253 of which 66 had diabetes) comprised the imaging cohort. The degree of replacement and diffuse interstitial fibrosis by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) was quantified using CMR. Plasma samples were analyzed with the multiplex proximity extension assay for 92 proteomic biomarkers in a separate biomarker cohort of severe AS patients (n=100 of which 27 had diabetes).
Results
In the imaging cohort, diabetic patients were older (70.4±6.8 vs. 66.7±10.1 years) and had a higher prevalence of ischemic heart disease (28.8% vs. 9.1%), with more advanced ventricular diastolic dysfunction. On CMR, diabetic patients had increased replacement and diffuse interstitial fibrosis (LGE% 0.3 [0.0–1.6] versus 0.0 [0.0–0.5], p=0.009; ECV% 27.9 [25.7–30.1] versus 26.7 [24.9–28.5], p=0.025) (Figure 1).
Plasma proteomics analysis of the biomarker cohort revealed that 9 proteins (E-selectin, interleukin-1 receptor type 1, interleukin-1 receptor type 2, galectin-4, intercellular adhesion molecule 2, integrin beta-2, galectin-3, growth differentiation factor 15, and cathepsin D) are significantly elevated in diabetic AS patients (Figure 2). Pathway over-representation analyses of the plasma proteomics with Gene Ontology terms indicated that pathways related to inflammatory response and extracellular matrix components were enriched, suggesting that diabetes is associated with systemic effects that evoke proinflammatory and profibrotic response to the pressure-overloaded myocardium.
During follow-up (median 6.3 years [IQR 5.2–7.2]) of the imaging cohort, 232 patients received aortic valve replacement (AVR) with 53 unexpected heart failure admissions or death. Diabetes was a significant predictor of heart failure and death, independent of clinical covariates and AVR (hazard ratio 1.88, 95% confidence interval 1.06–3.31, p=0.030).
Conclusion
Plasma proteomic analyses indicate that diabetes potentiates the systemic proinflammatory and profibrotic milieu in AS patients. These systemic biological changes underlie the increase of myocardial fibrosis, diastolic dysfunction, and worse clinical outcomes in severe AS patients with concomitant diabetes.

Abstract
Background
Ischemic stroke is a common complication in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) (1). Although atrial fibrillation (AF) is a well-established risk factor for ischemic stroke in HCM, the risk of ischemic stroke in patients with HCM without documented AF is less recognized (1, 2). This study aimed to determine the risk of ischemic stroke and identify its risk factors in patients with HCM without documented AF.
Methods
This nationwide population-based cohort study used the Korean National Health Insurance database. After excluding patients with a prior history of AF, thromboembolic events, cancer, or the use of anticoagulants, we identified 8,328 HCM patients without documented AF and 1:2 propensity score-matched 16,656 non-HCM controls. The clinical outcome was an incident ischemic stroke.
Results
During a mean follow-up of approximately 6 years, ischemic stroke occurred in 328/8,328 (3.9%) patients with HCM and 443/16,656 (2.7%) controls. Among individuals who developed ischemic stroke, the proportion of AF concomitantly detected accounted for 26.5% (87/328) and 5.8% (26/443) in the HCM and control groups, respectively. The overall incidence of ischemic stroke was 0.716/100 person-years in the HCM group, which was significantly higher than that in the control group (0.44/100 person-years) (HR 1.643; 95% CI, 1.424–1.895; P<0.001, Figure 1). The subgroup analysis according to age, sex, and comorbidities (chronic heart failure, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and vascular disease) consistently demonstrated a higher risk of ischemic stroke in the HCM group (P for interaction >0.05). In the HCM group, age ≥65 years (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 2.741; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.156–3.486; P<0.001) and chronic heart failure (adjusted HR 1.748; 95% CI, 1.101–2.745; P=0.018) were independent risk factors for ischemic stroke. Overall incidence was 1.360/100 in patients with HCM aged ≥65 and 2.315/100 person-years years in those with chronic heart failure, respectively. Also, compared to controls aged <65 years and without CHF, adjusted HR for ischemic stroke was 4.756 (95% CI 3.807–5.867) in patients with HCM aged ≥65 years and 2.539 (95% CI 1.638–3.936) in those with CHF, respectively (Figure 2).
Conclusions
Patients with HCM without documented AF are at a higher risk of ischemic stroke than the propensity score-matched general population. Age ≥65 years and chronic heart failure are two strong independent risk factors for ischemic stroke in this population.

Abstract
In breast cancer, the extracellular matrix (ECM) undergoes remodeling and changes the tumor microenvironment to support tumor progression and metastasis. Fibronectin (FN) assembly is an important step in the regulation of the tumor microenvironment since the FN matrix precedes the deposition of various other ECM proteins, controls immune cell infiltration, and serves as a reservoir for cytokines and growth factors. Therefore, FN is an attractive target for breast cancer therapy and imaging. Functional Upstream Domain (FUD) is a 6-kDa peptide targeting the N-terminal 70-kDa domain of FN, which is critical for fibrillogenesis. FUD has previously been shown to function as an anti-fibrotic peptide both in vitro and in vivo. In this work, we conjugated the FUD peptide with 20-kDa of PEG (PEG-FUD) and demonstrated its improved tumor exposure compared to non-PEGylated FUD in a murine breast cancer model via multiple imaging modalities. Importantly, PEG-FUD peptide retained a nanomolar binding affinity for FN and maintained in vitro plasma stability for up to 48 h. Cy5-labeled PEG-FUD bound to exogenous or endogenous FN assembled by fibroblasts. The in vivo fluorescence imaging with Cy5-labeled FUD and FUD conjugates demonstrated that PEGylation of the FUD peptide enhanced blood exposure after subcutaneous (SC) injection and significantly increased accumulation of FUD peptide in 4T1 mammary tumors. Intravital microscopy confirmed that Cy5-labeled PEG-FUD deposited mostly in the extravascular region of the tumor microenvironment after SC administration. Lastly, positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging showed that 64Cu-labeled PEG-FUD preferentially accumulated in the 4T1 tumors with improved tumor uptake compared to 64Cu-labeled FUD (48 h: 1.35 ± 0.05 vs. 0.59 ± 0.03 %IA/g, P < 0.001) when injected intravenously (IV). The results indicate that PEG-FUD targets 4T1 breast cancer with enhanced tumor retention compared to non-PEGylated FUD, and biodistribution profiles of PEG-FUD after SC and IV injection may guide the optimization of PEG-FUD as a therapeutic and/or imaging agent for use in vivo.

Abstract
A new approach named PEG-assist is introduced for the production of drug-loaded polymeric micelles. The method is based on the use of PEG as the non-selective solvent for PEG-b-PLA in the fabrication procedure. Both hydration temperature and PEG molecular weight are shown to have a significant effect on the encapsulation efficiency of PTX in PEG4kDa-b-PLA2kDa micelles. The optimal procedure for fabrication includes the use of PEG1kDa as the solvent at 60 °C, cooling the mixture to 40 °C, hydration at 40 °C, freezing at -80 °C and freeze-drying at -35 °C, 15 Pa. No significant difference (p > 0.05) in PTX encapsulation, average particle size and polydispersity index is observed between the samples before freeze-drying and after reconstitution of the freeze-dried cake. The prepared PTX formulations are stable at room temperature for at least 8 h. Scaling the batch size to 25× leads to no significant change (p > 0.05) in PTX encapsulation, average particle size and polydispersity index. PEG-assist method is applicable to other drugs such as 17-AAG, and copolymers of varied molecular weights. The use of no organic solvent, simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency makes PEG-assist a very promising approach for large scale production of drug-loaded polymeric micelles.

Abstract
Silicon (Si) is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, and it is the most widely used semiconductor. Despite extensive study, some properties of Si, such as its behaviour under dynamic compression, remain elusive. A detailed understanding of Si deformation is crucial for various fields, ranging from planetary science to materials design. Simulations suggest that in Si the shear stress generated during shock compression is released via a high-pressure phase transition, challenging the classical picture of relaxation via defect-mediated plasticity. However, direct evidence supporting either deformation mechanism remains elusive. Here, we use sub-picosecond, highly-monochromatic x-ray diffraction to study (100)-oriented single-crystal Si under laser-driven shock compression. We provide the first unambiguous, time-resolved picture of Si deformation at ultra-high strain rates, demonstrating the predicted shear release via phase transition. Our results resolve the longstanding controversy on silicon deformation and provide direct proof of strain rate-dependent deformation mechanisms in a non-metallic system. Understanding the how silicon deforms under pressure is important for several fields, including planetary science and materials design. Laser-driven shock compression experiments now confirm that shear stress generated during compression is released via a high-pressure phase transition.

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate and compare thyroid ultrasonography (US) findings in children and adolescents with goiter and normal thyroid function with positive or negative thyroid autoimmunity. From 2000 to 2020, we reviewed initial thyroid US images in 33 autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) patients and 52 nonAITD patients. Our review of the images focused on thyroid parenchymal hypoechogenicity and heterogeneous echopattern subdivided into 2 groups according to severity: hypoechogenicity 1 and 2 (HO1 and HO2) and heterogeneity 1 and 2 (HE1 and HE2). HO1 and HE1 were observed more frequently in the nonAITD group (86.5% and 42.3%, respectively), while HO2 and HE2 were observed more frequently in the AITDs group (36.4% and 81.8%, respectively). More patients in the AITDs group showed change of both US groups and thyroid function state within the follow-up periods than in nonAITD group (33.3% and 5.77%, respectively). Children and adolescent AITDs patients showed more severe parenchyma hypoechogenicity and heterogeneous echopattern compared with nonAITD patients with goiter and normal thyroid function.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the relationship between estimated fetal weight discordance by ultrasonography and maternal and neonatal outcomes in dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies. We conducted a retrospective review of the medical records of 106 twin pregnancies delivered at a single tertiary center between January 2011 and February 2020. At 20–24 and 28–32 weeks of gestation, participants were divided into two groups: discordant twins with an estimated fetal weight difference of more than 20% and concordant twins with a weight difference of less than 20%. Maternal complications and neonatal outcomes were compared between the two groups. Although the incidences of preeclampsia and placenta previa were significantly higher in discordant twins measured between 20 and 24 weeks, no statistical significance was found in neonatal outcomes. Delivery times were earlier, and neonatal weights were lower in discordant twins measured between 28 and 32 weeks. Neonatal outcomes such as ventilator use and neurodevelopment were also significantly different. Discordance in estimated fetal weight measured using ultrasonography between 20 and 24 weeks can be a risk factor for maternal preeclampsia and placenta previa, whereas discordance at 28–32 weeks may predict poor neonatal outcomes.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate adult primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients’ perceived stress levels and to examine the associations with their clinical characteristics. Methods Sixty-seven POAG patients, excluding those meeting the exclusion criteria (retinal or neurological disease diagnoses) comprised the study population. A validated questionnaire, namely Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), was used to assess stress level. Additional data on glaucoma surgery history, medical benefit receipt, comorbidities, and daily antiglaucoma medication number were collected. The clinical characteristics of high (PSS-10 ≥15) and low stress (PSS-10 <15) patients and the risk factors associated with high stress level were subjected to a multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results The patients were 56.8 ± 12.6 years of age on average, and 29 (43.3%) were female. The mean PSS-10 level was 13.5 ± 5.3 (range, 1–27) for the entire patient group; 31 patients (46.3%) were in the high stress group. In the high stress group relative to the low stress group, best-corrected visual acuity in the better eye was lower (p = 0.044) and the visual field defects, in both eyes, were more severe (better eye, p = 0.005; worse eye, p = 0.026). A logistic regression analysis indicated that severe visual field defect in the better eye (odds ratio, 1.159; 95% confidence interval, 1.016–1.323; p = 0.028) and lower best-corrected visual acuity in the better eye (odds ratio, 4.707; 95% confidence interval, 0.580–6.189; p = 0.072) were both likely to associated with high stress level in patients with POAG. Conclusions These findings suggest an association between severe visual function loss and higher mental stress level in POAG patients. Stress level, therefore, might be an important consideration in POAG patient management.

Abstract
The most recent version of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of prostate cancer was published in 2020. It was therefore decided, by both the ESMO and the Singapore Society of Oncology (SSO), to convene a special, virtual guidelines meeting in November 2021 to adapt the ESMO 2020 guidelines to take into account the differences associated with the treatment of prostate cancer in Asia. These guidelines represent the consensus opinions reached by experts in the treatment of patients with prostate cancer representing the oncological societies of China (CSCO), India (ISMPO), Japan (JSMO), Korea (KSMO), Malaysia (MOS), Singapore (SSO) and Taiwan (TOS). The voting was based on scientific evidence and was independent of the current treatment practices and drug access restrictions in the different Asian countries. The latter were discussed when appropriate. The aim is to provide guidance for the optimisation and harmonisation of the management of patients with prostate cancer across the different regions of Asia.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quantitative diagnostic performance of computed tomography (CT) densitometry in pediatric patients with bronchiolitis obliterans (BO). We measured the mean lung density (MLD) and represented the difference of MLD in inspiratory and expiratory phases (MLDD), the ratio of the MLD (E/I MLD), and the relative volume percentage of lung density at 50-Hounsfield unit (HU) interval threshold (E600 to E950). We calculated the sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy of the lung density indices for the diagnosis of BO. A total of 81 patients, including 51 patients with BO and 30 controls, were included in this study. In the BO patients, expiratory (EXP) MLD and MLDD were significantly lower, and E/I MLD and expiratory low attenuation areas below the threshold of −850 HU to −950 HU (E850, E900, and E950) were statistically significantly higher than controls. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that MLDD (odds ratio [OR] = 0.98, p < .001), E/I MLD (OR = 1.39, p < .001), and E850 to E950 were significant densitometry parameters for BO diagnosis. In a receiver-operating characteristic analysis, E900 (cutoff, 1.4%; AUC = 0.920), E/I MLD (cutoff, 0.87; AUC = 0.887), and MLDD (cutoff, 109 HU; AUC = 0.867) showed high accuracy for the diagnosis of BO. In conclusion, the lung CT densitometry can serve as a quantitative marker providing additional indications of expiratory airflow limitation in pediatric patients with BO.

Abstract
The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is associated with predicting type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but its relationship with homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in T2DM is not established. We aimed to investigate the role of TyG index for detection of T2DM in children and adolescents and compare it with HOMA-IR. A cross sectional study was performed in 176 overweight or obese children and adolescents with mean age of 11.34 ± 3.24 years. TyG index was calculated as ln (fasting triglyceride (TG) [mg/dL] × fasting glucose [mg/dL]/2). Of a total of 176 subjects, 57 (32%) were diagnosed with T2DM. Significant differences were observed in the TyG index between T2DM and non-T2DM (p < 0.001). The TyG index had a positive correlation with fasting glucose (r = 0.519, p < 0.001), HOMA-IR (r = 0.189, p < 0.017), HbA1c (r = 0.429, p < 0.001), total cholesterol (TC) (r = 0.257, p = 0.001), TG (r = 0.759, p < 0.001), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)(r = 0.152, p < 0.001), and a negative correlation with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)(r = -0.107, p < 0.001) after controlling for sex, age and BMI standard deviation scores (SDS). In multiple regression analyses, 91.8% of the variance in TyG index was explained by age, glucose, HOMA-IR, TG, LDL-C, and HDL-C (p < 0.001). In the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, the TyG index [area under the curve (AUC) 0.839)] showed a better performance compared to HOMA-IR (AUC 0.645) in identifying patients with T2DM (p < 0.001). In conclusion, the TyG index had significant association with insulin resistance in T2DM and was superior to HOMA-IR in predicting T2DM in children and adolescents.

Abstract
Objective: The mechanism underlying postnatal growth failure and catch-up growth in small-for-gestational-age (SGA) children is poorly understood. This study investigated the exosomal miRNA signature associated with catch-up growth in SGA children. Methods: In total, 16 SGA and 10 appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) children were included. Serum exosomal miRNA was analyzed using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Exosomal miRNA was profiled for five SGA children with catch-up growth (SGA-CU), six SGA children without CU growth (SGA-nCU), and five AGA children. Results: Exosomal miRNA profiles were clustered into three clear groups. The exosomal miRNA expression profiles of the SGA-nCU group differed from those of the SGA-CU and AGA groups. In all, 22 miRNAs were differentially expressed between SGA-nCU and AGA, 19 between SGA-nCU and SGA-CU, and only 6 between SGA-CU and AGA. In both SGA-nCU and SGA-CU, miR-874-3p was upregulated and miR-6126 was downregulated. Therefore, these two miRNAs could serve as biomarkers for SGA. Compared with SGA-CU and AGA, miR-30c-5p, miR-363-3p, miR-29a-3p, and miR-29c-3p were upregulated in SGA-nCU, while miR-629-5p and miR-23a-5p were downregulated. These six miRNAs could be associated with growth failure in SGA-nCU children. Conclusions: SGA children without CU have a distinct exosomal miRNA expression profile compared with AGA and SGA children with CU. Exosomal miRNAs could serve as novel biomarkers for CU.

Abstract
Efficient catalytic ring-opening coupled with hydrogenation is a promising but challenging reaction for producing adipic acid (AA) from 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA). In this study, AA synthesis is carried out in two steps from FDCA via tetrahydrofuran-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (THFDCA) over a recyclable Ru/Al2 O3 and an ionic liquid, [MIM(CH2 )4 SO3 H]I (MIM=methylimidazolium) to deliver 99 % overall yield of AA. Ru/Al2 O3 is found to be an efficient catalyst for hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis of FDCA to deliver THFDCA and 2-hydroxyadipic acid (HAA), respectively, where ruthenium is more economically viable than well-known palladium or rhodium hydrogenation catalysts. H2 chemisorption shows that the alumina phase strongly affects the interaction between Ru nanoparticles (NPs) and supports, resulting in materials with high dispersion and small size of Ru NPs, which in turn are responsible for the high conversion of FDCA. An ionic liquid system, [MIM(CH2 )4 SO3 H]I is applied to the hydrogenolysis of THFDCA for AA production. The [MIM(CH2 )4 SO3 H]I exhibits superior activity, enables simple product isolation with high purity, and reduces the severe corrosion problems caused by the conventional hydroiodic acid catalytic system.

Abstract
Leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs) are widely used for asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR), but concerns about the risk of neuropsychiatric events (NPEs) have been raised since the first Drug Safety Communication by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2008. This study evaluates the association between LTRA and NPEs in children, adolescents, and young adults with asthma or AR.A self-controlled case series study was conducted using the Korean National Health Insurance Service claims database from two three-year observation periods (observation period 1 [Obs1]: 2005 to 2007, observation period 2 [Obs2]: 2016 to 2018). Asthma or AR patients aged 3-30 years who were prescribed LTRAs and diagnosed with NPEs were included. The incidence rate ratios (IRRs) for exposed period and risk periods (1-3, 4-7, 8-14, 15-30, 31-90, >90 days from initiation of LTRA) compared to unexposed periods were calculated using conditional Poisson regression. Subgroup analysis according to age group, type of NPEs and indication of LTRA was performed.Among 17 001 included patients, the risk of NPEs increased in Obs2 (IRR, 1.11; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.00-1.22), but did not increase in Obs1. Risk was increased during risk periods 4-7 days (2.36, 1.99-2.76) and 8-14 days (1.78; 1.46-2.15) after initiation of LTRA, particularly in adolescents (1.28, 1.05-1.55) and young adults (1.14, 1.02-1.28), while risk was decreased in children (3-11 years). Risk was not increased for any single type of NPE. AR patients were at increased risk (1.19, 1.01-1.39), but not those with asthma.Overall, risk of NPEs with LTRA use differed between risk periods and subgroups. Physicians should prescribe LTRAs according to indications and inform patients about possible NPEs.

Abstract
Alteration in expression of miRNAs can cause various malignant changes and the metastatic process. Our aim was to identify the miRNAs involved in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SqCC) and metastasis, and to test their utility as indicators of metastasis and survival. Using microarray technology, we performed miRNA expression profiling on primary cervical SqCC tissue (n = 6) compared with normal control (NC) tissue and compared SqCC that had (SqC-M; n = 3) and had not (SqC-NM; n = 3) metastasized. Four miRNAs were selected for validation by qRT-PCR on 29 SqC-NM and 27 SqC-M samples, and nine metastatic lesions (ML-SqC), from a total of 56 patients. Correlation of miRNA expression and clinicopathological parameters was analyzed to evaluate the clinical impact of candidate miRNAs. We found 40 miRNAs differentially altered in cervical SqCC tissue: 21 miRNAs were upregulated and 19 were downregulated (≥2-fold, p < 0.05). Eight were differentially altered in SqC-M compared with SqC-NM samples: four were upregulated (miR-494, miR-92a-3p, miR-205-5p, and miR-221-3p), and four were downregulated (miR-574-3p, miR-4769-3p, miR-1281, and miR-1825) (≥1.5-fold, p < 0.05). MiR-22-3p might be a metastamiR, which was gradually further downregulated in SqC-NM > SqC-M > ML-SqC. Downregulation of miR-30e-5p significantly correlated with high stage, lymph node metastasis, and low survival rate, suggesting an independent poor prognostic factor.
